Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Every time I stop it and try another brand I end up reordering Proactiv. Within a few days my skin improves. I am 46 and tend to still break out with terrible pimples.Proactiv has definitely eliminated this problem. Gentle formula is excellent.

Cons:

The lotion could smell nicer. The wash is fine. It's a bit pricey, but not much more than the store bought others. It does last a few months.I use it twice a day--just need a small amount with warm water.

This product has been a blessing for me. I kept breaking out with horrible/embarassing welts that lasted a week or two---even in my 40s. Proactiv calms my skin down and keeps things under control. I don't use the one with benzol peroxide because it makes my eyes swell and burns my skin. The gentle formula works extremely well for me.

Pros:

cleared up all acne on face and chest in just one week

Cons:

none

As a 35 year old woman, I have tried many acne products, This is the best one that I have ever used. I was starting to break out on very bad on my neck and chest after being in the sun or working out. This soap works great! So great, that I just had to write a review (my first review ever!)

Pros:

It works! Leaves a cool feeling. Doesn't dry out skin.

Cons:

Very expensive (about $30 for 8.5 Fl. Oz.)

As a side effect of some medication that I was on (prednisone), my bacne was getting bad. Nothing seemed to be working, and I was starting to get worried about having scars. I tried antibacterial soaps (Dial), and even got some Clindamycin from the dermatologist. Let me just tell you, BE CAREFUL with Clindamycin...it is a nasty antibiotic that has SERIOUS side effects. I had to quit the Clindamycin because of the side effects, so I started looking for over the counter stuff. I used Neutrogena body wash for a while, but that really didn't seem to work all that well. I finally tried Murad Acne Body Wash and started to see results in only a week! It's been 2 weeks now, and my bacne has been reduced by 50%. I use the wash in conjunction with the Clarifying Body Spray. I'm telling you folks, I'm so glad that I'll be able to take my shirt off this summer and not be embarassed! I hope this works as well for you as it has been for me!

Pros:

Works quickly, moisturizes skin, doesn't "burn" face

Cons:

A little pricey, PM lotion does smell a little weird, took about 3 weeks to see a ture difference

This product works! I have had acne pretty severely since I was 13 years old and I'm 37 now. I also have very oily skin. I have been to dermatologists, seemed to have tried everything out there and spent thousands of dollars on products that made promises, but just didn't work. I decided to give this a try - I figured - Why not? I am so glad that I did. For the first time in 14 years, I feel beautiful and I don't feel as if people are looking at my breakouts - just at me. Give this a try. You really have nothing to lose. They offer a 60 day money back guarantee and they do stand by it. I tried the regular formula first and had to send it back. It was too strong for me. Their customer service was great!, refunded my money and then suggested the gentle formula. I tired it about a month later and the rest is beautiful history. :)

Pros:

Non-Drying, Leaves skin smooth and clear.

Cons:

Gets worse before better, but worth the wait.

I have to say...you HAVE to give this one a fair chance. I am 34 years old and have hormonal acne breakouts. I have tried everything under the sun... to the point where I just figured I HAD to live with this fate. Let me tell you.. now I dont. When I first tried this I was skeptical, as nothing I ever had tried "truely" worked, and I admit..I wasnt impressed at first. I broke out worse then I already was... my skin became actually very oily.. I ALMOST stopped use and switched back over to Clinique's system which up till this point worked "OK" for me. Then I realized that what this product was doing was actually clearing out my pores from the inside out... getting all the bad out.. which was the cause of the oil and the breakouts... THEN all of a sudden it felt like overnight it just cleared up totally. Ive been using it only a couple of weeks and am THOUROUGHLY impressed! You HAVE to stick it out and keep using it, even if it goes from bad to worse it WILL get better. I will NEVER use anything else again, I am hooked! I still get one or 2 pimples during high-hormonal stages of my cycle.. but NOTHING compared to what it was. OH and as a bonus, my make up goes on smoother, my skin is even toned.. I can go OUT of the house w/OUT any makeup and feel comfortable. Im just amazed. Also I only use the topical part of the system, the 3 steps. I did not purchase the pills.

Pros:

Lasts a long time, does not dry out skin too much, does not irritate skin.

Cons:

Cannot be used alone, must be used with a moisturizer to avoid uncomfortable dryness of sensitive skin

It works really well. It cleans out the skin without over-drying it or causing irritation. After I wash my face with this bar, my pores become visibly smaller. It is suitable for all climates all year-round. No need to change it because it's very humid in the summer. :-) Your skin will become dry if you don't follow it with a moisturizer, I've been using Clinique's "Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel." I started out with moderate acne throughout the month and now I have very light acne (about 3 zits per month) during the week before my period ONLY! Another advantage of this product is that it lasts forever! I have been using the same bar for 6 months now and it'll probably last another 4 months.

Pros:

I have only been using the product for about a week, my aunt gave me samples (tiny little tubs) all I do is dip my finger in (less then a pea size) and rub handes together and it cleans my whole face. Now my acne is almost gone and feels so good

Cons:

A little bit expensive!! But well worth it if my acne stays gone.

A little bit goes a long long way!!! I am very excited to try the supplement and the spot treatment. My face has not looked this good in four years!! And I have very bad cystic acne! I have used proactiv and treated be a doctor for the past 2 years. Proactive only worked for about a month then my acne came back twice as bad, the doctor has had me on antibiotics for 2 yrs and that is really wearing on my system. I will let you all know if it continues to help me, but so far it great!! I love it, and very refreshing and relaxing.

Pros:

-makes your skin soft
-doesn't stink
-doesn't make my skin blotchy and red
-Reduces redness of pimples (making them look smaller! yay!)
-Doesn't dry out my skin, but then again, nothing ever does. (my skin is so oily that even if I can bet it dry enough, its covered in oil within 20 minutes)
-doesn't make my skin burn and sting
-I got this huge zit on my cheek, so I used this once with the Clearasil acne clearing creme, and my zit was completely gone the following morning.

Cons:

Well, lets see...... if you buy the scrub, the beads hurt your face really bad and it's hard to scrub it without being hurt. That's all I can think of.

I love and have always loved Clearasil products. My acne is pretty severe and I've had it bad for 5 or 6 years now. I'm only 12. I tried Differin, but it was too expensive. I use the Acne clearing creme every night and its saved me from a lot of teasing in 1st grade. Since then, I pretty much owe my life to Clearasil and its products. I had a pretty good experience with this face wash and it made my skin nice and soft. And by the way it doesn't REEK like other products.

Pros:

- drastic changes in redness and pimple size within 3 days
- light and your skin feels soft :)
- salicylic acid included to help :)

Cons:

- nothing so far! :D

I recently purchased this moisturizer after using the Burt's Bee's Day Moisturizer with Royal Jelly because there was none in stock and I really can't live a day without moisturizer so I chose this. I realized that my skin can only use products that are light, gentle and without any harsh products included. At the back of the bottle, it states, 'Aveeno Active Naturals formulas contain skin conditioning or dry skin soothing agents that are sourced from nature.' Therefore, I decided to try it since I have been breaking out a bit lately. In the past, I have used the cleanser but it didn't go out so well. I have to admit, I was hesitant to try it; however, my sister has used it before and said it was great so I took her word for it. When I got home, that night I used it, you could feel your face where your acne is tightening. For me, that's a sign that's it's working. The next morning, I woke up and number one, my face redness has decreased and number two, my face isn't as oily compared to the other moisturizers I have used. By today, day three, the redness has gone by 95%! I am so pleased with this product and will probably never change :) *Drink plenty of water too :) I recently started to avoid eating chocolate (even though it may be a myth; however, it contains milk which causes breakouts), fried foods (no matter how delicious it looked), chips, candy, and the most important would be dairy products. They are known to be the cause of most breakouts. :) *I also use tea tree oil every morning and night. It helps a lot too cause you can feel it working into your skin, try considering it, you won't regret it unless you're allergic to any ingredients of course :) Hope that helps for you all and I wish the best of luck for all of you maintaining your precious skin :) Remember, if it doesn't help, keep trying until you find the one that's for YOU! :D Most importantly, everyone is beautiful, inside and out no matter what you think :)

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
