Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

smells nice

Cons:

everything. it makes your skin dry and flaky. DOES NOT WORK!

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. if you have normal skin like i used to have it will become dry and flaky. you wont be able to cover up anything with makeup because it doesnt go on nice with flaky skin. the medication helped the slittest bit the first couple of days but after that i brokeout like i had never brokenout before. it was horrible!!! now i cant get my skin back to how it was. dont waste your money on this crap, instead go for a more natural remedy like lemon juice and if that doesnt work, try apple cider vinigar- much better than any acne treatment i ever tried. GOOD LUCK!

Pros:

Cleared my skin in a few days!!!! I love the dermo-calm complex. This is the ONLY cleanser that works for my face.

Cons:

It's not in stores anymore and it's hard to find on the internet now...I'm so upset that this product is so hard to get a hold of. IT works for so many people, I'm not sure why they would discontinue it. There is nothing like this out there.

The best cleanser out there. Good luck trying to fing it though!!

Pros:

NONE!!

Cons:

Worst thing I have ever used on my face. Please do not use it!!! It is way too harsh and made my face break out horribly. I had mild, comedonal acne before and now I have full-blown moderate/severe acne!!

Save yourself the agony...and do not try it!!!

Pros:

umm...none actually

Cons:

horrible smell. Red spots are still there. I got Cysts on my back.

I dont know what apricot they're smelling but it must be nasty. I still have red spots and old acne hasnt healed yet.

Pros:

nice lather, affordable, cleans skin well

Cons:

not really for anti-acne.
doesn't helps subside zits and redness

If you are looking for anti-acne, this DOESN'T work as one. it helps reduce, but it doesn't clear out acne completely.

Pros:

worked the first time i used it and kinda worked the other times

Cons:

doesnt take redness away

its works pretty good although it takes awhile to reduce the size of the pimple.

Pros:

Smells nice. Moisturized really well.

Cons:

Didn't do a thing for my skin.

It didn't work to clear up my skin, but it did moisturize it very well. My skin wasn't greasy after the application, nor was it shinny. Guess I got lucky, haha. This may work for someone who has maybe one or two blemishes, but not someone who has a more severe case.

Pros:

Does what it says it does.

Cons:

Doesn't do what it says it does for very long.

The 3-day promise came true for me. Past that, not a whole lot of improvement. The formula is WAY too harsh--the scrubbing bits left me itchy and the cleanser itself made my skin dry out. After a few months, my skin is worse than ever.
July 11, 2008

Pros:

It has a nice pad not to hard on trying to find out the right amount to put on your face.

Cons:

It does not work right away and leaves skin oilly, and wet.

The bottom line is if you are willing to wait for a long time( one mounth) to see a little bit of a diffrence on your face them don't buy this product. it actually made my face worse after it looked better.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
