Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Amazing Product, using it for 3 days now, and its gimmick is completely true, my skin cleared up greatly

Cons:

I honestly can't think of any cons, I would probably say price, but I stole mine from WALLMART lol

This is a great product, not sure why there is so many negative reviews, people must not be using it daily or correctly... I strongly recommend you check this one out

Pros:

clears up my acne quickly--overnight
keeps my skin balanced
can apply multiple times per day

Cons:

small bottle

I've been using the rapid clear lotion for almost a month and it has cleared my face almost entirely. I have tried tons of other approaches and medications both oral and topical from my dermatologist. This lotion in combination with a gentle facewash have worked wonders on my skin. The tube's small hole helps to only dispense a small amount, as it spreads very well and is very light on the skin.

Pros:

not much

Cons:

it has acohol (37%), it burns too

i say the nuetrogena one is better. the rapid clear one. this one burned alot and it runs out easily too. and i actually bought the full kit.

Pros:

the fragrance is not so bad and it seems to maybe starting to lighten

Cons:

i can't feel it working on my skin at all so i usually end up leaving on my face for a half/hour (i hope that's not bad*only used for a week*)

seems to be lightly working but i need to use it more for more accurate results

Pros:

Great clear feeling, much less redness, easy to use. I didn't experience any flaking or other discoloration from this product. Great price!

Cons:

Doesn't clear all acne, you should use other spot treatments after application.

"The best money can buy," is not always true. Stridex salicylic acid pads are very easy to use and you will get good results. I'm 14 and have mild acne, mostly on my chin and upper lip. Occasionally I would flare you with a big red zit around my nose. These help prevent those big zits, keeping your face clean and feeling refreshed. Also, my skin used to be very oily- so much that I would go on stage or under a bright light and would really notice a sheen on my face. These really clear the excess oil off my face.

Pros:

Makes skin smoother...

Cons:

Really dries out back, made my skin break out worse

You need to use it in conjunction with something to get rid of acne. Overhyped product.

Works fast, i saw results in the first hour! how exciting!

Cons:

smelly..

Works well,
April 17, 2008

Pros:

Smells okay, works well

Cons:

Need to "give it a coffee break" two or three times a week (see below), dries skin out a little, can't use under makeup

Bought this as it claims to work fast. I does, overnight pimples can be reduced, but i find it works better if you give it a break two or three time a week. You can supposedly use it under makeup, but i find it makes it peel. The smell was okay, i dries out your skin slightly but not a major problem. The tube was odd however, it seems to squirt out more ou than you need, even when you squeeze lightly.
April 15, 2008

Pros:

shrinks pimples overnight, easy to apply

Cons:

dries out skin a little, funny texture

this stuff is a lifesaver when you have an annoying zit you want GONE.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
