Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Helps clear pimples fast. Use twice a day, and pimples will clear over about two or three days. Cleared up my cysts as well.

Cons:

Stings when you apply it. Won't work unless you use a powerful cleanser first.

Great product. The first spot gel that worked for me. It stings every time you use it, but you need to use a very powerful cleanser first or it will do nothing.

Pros:

It feels really good on our skin. Very invigorating. I use it just in the morning and it controls the oiliness of my skin very well.

Cons:

It makes my skin read a while after I wash it. Also inflames my blemishes and any little things on my face that may not be 100% even with my skin tone. But after5 or 10 minutes, my skin looks very good and is soft.

I like this product a lot. I just wish it would cer my blemishes 100%.

Pros:

Good texture, smooths easily, lasts a long time (used 2x a day about 4 months), only need a small amount to cover the face, smooths skin, keeps acne at bay

Cons:

PRICE, no SPF

I love aveeno products. This is the best moisturizer with salycidic acid in it (sorry for the spelling). I used to use the clean and clear moisturizer that has the same percentage, but this is a better moisturizer. It keeps the skin moisturized in the summer and winter and gives a dewy/somewhat matte look to the face. I would recommend this moisturizer to anyone with light to moderate acne, or anyone that is just looking for a good moisturizer for slightly oily or combination skin. It may not be thick enough for dry skin (but I don't have it.... so I am not sure). Aveeno also has coupons and sales a lot... since this product is pricey, look on the aveeno website or coupons online to help with the price. Hope this helps.

Pros:

Works fairly fast. Doesn't irritate the first time and I have sensitive skin.

Cons:

I personally am not a fan of the smell but it could be worse. It says you can use it 2 times a day after a minute but it hurt the day I did it twice.

Works suprisingly well and fast.

Cons:

Can make skin feal tight
smells wierd

I boughtthis prduct a ocuple of months ago to treat my acne. I have pimples on my forhead and chin and I have balckheads on my chin nose around nose and forhead. It basically didnt help with my acne, since I have acne at the moment. It didnt my skin too dry but if you have snsitive skin it probably will. Bottom line : It didnt clear my face

Pros:

Smells beautiful; inexpensive; decreased size of whiteheads.

Cons:

Gave me dry, flaky, wrinkly skin; red marks; blemishes; stings.

I have oily skin and let me tell you, this product irritated my skin so bad. After two days of using this product, it has made my nose, forehead and jawline wrinkly and flaky! I've never had these areas affected this way - I think it's due to the large amount of salicylic acid. Furthermore, this product made it impossible to apply make up on my face. I'm desperate to get the dryness cleared up again. On the bright side, it decreased size of my whiteheads but left me blemishes all over my face! :( This product is inexpensive and maybe worth a try if you have very very oily skin.

this product is Good. Period. I LOVE IT

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
