Topical Keratolytic
Acne.org’s Real World Take
Easy to find and with low side effects, but don’t be surprised if you are left wishing for better results after using it for a while. Any acid on its own is unlikely to dramatically clear acne.

Pros:

Leaves skin feeling very smooth! does not irritate skin!

Cons:

leaves skin oily and shiny! So use a oil-free moisturizer and consider getting the daily oil control by proactive that works great!!!!

The gentle formula is a great formula! I have been using it for about 3 1/2 weeks and my skin is so much smoother and pimple free!!! However, a few red marks managed to stay behind but my skin care advisor told me to keep using it and the red marks should become lighter as I continue to use it. It takes about a month for your skin to completly clear up so don't give up on it, if the texture of your skin went from dry and lumpy to smooth and fresh then it is working you just got to give it time.

Pros:

Nothing.

Cons:

Contains witch hazel, an irritant.
Didn't do anything for existing pimples
Made me break out.

This product is horrible. It irritates my skin and makes me break out. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has sensitive skin for this reason. I'm not sure if it's the witch hazel or other ingredients in this product but it irritated my skin and made my acne worse than it was before. I do like the rapid clear lotion, but the gel is the worst!

Pros:

It removes the dirt, okay...

Cons:

It drys up my skin just a bit, makes my skin look whiter, irritates a bit if you scrub for too long or for a long time

I don't know if there is a major difference in my skin, with blemishes and acne because personally for me it doesn't help in that area. On the other hand i have pretty oily skin, so i like to use this product to reduce a lot of the oil.Its worth a try though!

Pros:

the microbeads feel pretty cool...

Cons:

1. It dries out your skin
2. It causes acne in places where none previously existed (yay!)
3. It makes your skin look like it's spent the last two weeks crisping in the desert, as it is soooo dry you crack and peel until you bleed.

It SUCKS. Don't buy this unless you find the idea of having your skin feel as dry as a Middle Eastern desert while more facial acne rapidly accumulates in places that previously possessed none an enjoyable experience.

Pros:

helped reduce my acne, and it's really fun to put on! you just wanna keep mushing it around until you have a perfectly white face. Also, after you wash it off you can really feel it working

Cons:

it takes a while to put it on and wash it off, not for those who are rushing around a bunch and don't have a good four to seven minutes for face washing

use it.

Pros:

very light weight, smoothes skin, keeps it clear

Cons:

You don't get the cooling feeling after you use it for awhile.

I absolutley love this product. For the longest time i was looking for a very LIGHT weight mositurizer that kept my skin soft and controlled my small break outs. It doesn't GET RID of my breakouts but when you start using it for awhile you break out much less. It such a great product and i love the sanitary pump packeging. However, everyone's skin is different. I love this . You may hate it. But, i would definately say give it a try!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
