Pros:

Very minimal discomfort....feels like being popped with a rubberband. No down time.

Cons:

A little redness / discomfort the day after. Be careful with too much sun exposure.

I just got the cool touch and v beam procedure yesterday. It will be followed by the fraxel laser surgery in 2 weeks, then more cool touch, v beam and fraxel. This will repeat for 6 treatments. I am hoping with this combination I can get rid of any existing acne and scarring. The total cost is 3,400...I am crossing my fingers that this combination therapy will be worth it!

Pros:

It removed red scarring very much, less breakouts in general but it activated acne in sides where i didn't have acne before !

Cons:

cost a lot very expensive.. Not long-lasting solution

I had 4 treatments, somehow huge areas of hyperpigmentation were healed. This is not a permenant solution so I recommend to use roaccutane and then use laser treatment for scarring, because this will be just wasting of money and time.

Pros:

definite improvement in skin and scarring (and wrinkles)

Cons:

expensive, service at the Private clinic unbelievably bad

I would recommend the N-Lite treatment. I had suffered from moderate to severe acne for a couple of years and initially went for 6 sessions. The Private Clinic are hopeless and consistently cocked up my appointments. Twice booking them on the wrong day, and my average waiting time was over an hour. Plus the nurses, although very polite, always treated me like they couldn't wait to get me out the door. The whole place is hopelessly disorganised. Even when I wrote a letter of complaint I had to ring every day for three weeks to get a response - a half hearted apology only. the treatment seemed to make my skin worse the first time, then the second time the spots started to heal more quickly and left less scarring. After 6 treatments it was pretty much gone and my scars looked much better. it also got rid of some of my wrinkles. I only found it worked when they put the machine on 3.6 or more, which for most people would cause bruises. I now go once every 6 months.

Pros:

Completely cleared up my acne scars, and reduced breakouts for about a year.

Cons:

Acne came back.

After trying a variety of topical acne medications, as well as oral antibiotics, I decided to try smoothbeam since my acne kept coming back. I had many scars all over my cheeks due to the type of acne I had (cysts, and nodules). After 5 treatments at 333.00 a session my scars COMPLETELY went away and my breakouts were reduced to maybe one zit around the time of my period. After about a year acne free, and only using topical treatments to try and maintain the results, I decided to stop using the topical treatments. My acne came back and I had to do another 4 sessions of smoothbeam. I went on oral contraceptives which controlled the hormonal cause of acne, and topical treatments to control the bacteria. The acne is under control now, but I still get some breakouts. I am going to try a new treatment called ISOLAZ to see if I can control the breakouts. Bottom line, I would definintely recommend this for acne scars, not so much to control acne breakouts.

I had my first Smoothbeam treatment a week & a half ago. I am 41 with mild acne. I decided to try SB to reduce some acne scarring & reduce my pores. I was given numbing cream for my face which I was instructed to put on every 10 minutes for an hour b/f treatment; it worked great & the "pain" was minimal. My situation now, however, is that I have several hyperpigmentation lines on both sides of my face & some spots as well. They can be pretty much covered with mineral makeup, but what the heck?! I am disapponted with this aspect. My skin does seem somewhat clearer... if you don't look at the lines. I am scheduled for a 2nd treatment, but am hesitant at this point. Will it make these lines worse? The Deratologist doesn't seem to "see" the lines for some reason (?). But my husband notices them...so I'm not nuts. Still deciding if treatments will continue....

Cons:

never heard any1 else say this but thought it hurt a bit wihat a wimp eh!

im genuine unlike some of the other posts ive read where everyone goes to the private clinic(what a coincidence eh)i went to the aesthetic beauty centre in sunderland to see a qualified gp not a nurse no disrespect!having had peels there before i went back to ask dr dutta about nlite when my skin broke out again after years of being spot free.id seen nlite advertised in various places and went for a consultation.he told me id have to be patient as this isnt an overnight cure and could get worse before better.i went for my first treatment four weeks ago and was pleased to see my skin hasnt relly got worse infact my scars seem to be a lot more faded and my spots went down after a couple of weeks. lately i had a little breakout but still looks much better.im going for my next treatment tonite so il let you know how i get on.praying it clears up loads more for my hols in jan fingers crossed!he also told me you need to treat a very small area at a time to prevent causing more scarring!

Pros:

Quick, very little downtime

Cons:

It hurt! And I was not expecting the swelling as none of the literature mentioned that. I looked lika I had been snapped with 10 rubber bands for a day. From what I can see what everyone else paid I think I overpaid-$800 forVbeam/Smoothbeam combo

I am VERY fair so I was worried about redness as a side effect and decided to try my DRs recommendation of v eam/smoothbeam combo to get rid of my old acne scarring (divets) and new acne and purple scars, etc. Mr DR always does these as a combo so I signed up (the fraxel seemed so much more of a "commitment"). It hurt more than I expected (some areas were on a higher setting) but I did feel firmer afterward and didnt look too bad afterward. The rednnes disappeared within 2 hours but then I saw all these lumps on my face that I was not expecting. The RN had given me bionect gel to take the swelling down and it worked. I had this done Friday at noon and my Sat morning I was almost 100% back to normal. It is now Sunday and I feel that my skin is less greasy and a little firmer and more even. But did I overpay? Everyone is saying $300 but I paid $800 (though I had a combo of v-beam and smoothbeam).

Pros:

Very short recovery time (30 minutes)

Cons:

cost

Tried the Smoothbeam laser. Received treatment once a month for 3 consecutive months. Didn't notice improvement until sometime in between the 2nd and 3rd treatment. My skin was firmer and the beam helped rid of some redness.

Pros:

First time had it today. Numbing cream is working but i could tolerate it in some sensetives areas. Skin was red and swalen for about 2-3 hours, now it is fine and smooth.

Cons:

kind of expensive.most of my issue was that my doctor was cute - funny part. i even didn't concentrate on the pain so much, just wanted to dissapear.

I tried everithing, acsept accutane, but will never go for that one.I had CO2 laser done like 8 years ago, helped with scars, but every stress would make me brake out again. Finally i got it under controll with Differin gel(evening) and clindagel morning for the last two years, all this treatments made my eyes so dry, that it made me wrinkle. Nobody in my family have that kind of wrinkles even though they are older. So now i guess i have to do something about it too.. I purchased HI-Frequency current, it smothes my skin, and helped somehow before my my smoothbeam.and stoped using toothpaste with tartar protection, my doc said it can make me brake out around mouth, using toothpaste with baking soda now, kind of helping. I never new about that. Maybe some of you can use it. The question is for thouse of you that did the smoothbeam- Did you stoped using your regular medicine after the treatment? If yes how long after the treatment or treatments. Do you feel confident without medicine?

Pros:

skin is instantly smoother after each treatment
great results seen after 2 visits (in my case)

Cons:

hurts like HELL!!
pricey ($300 per treatment)

i'll keep you posted...so far i've done 2 treatments in 3 week increments. my face looks great! ...not perfect...but a huge improvement...a lot less break outs and scars are smoothing out as well! friends, family, and co-workers have noticed...very exciting! some of these reviews really scared me but i guess i have the perfect skin scenario for this treatment...not stuck up girl: "oh my god, i got a zit" type....more like the infection/cystic type acne and mainly on the cheeks with mild scarring...but not crazy broken out all of the time and all over my face type either! i've had acne since my early-late teens...i've been on many medications and birth control has been the only thing that has worked. i researched many treatments before i booked my smoothbeam appt.! I think that I will do 2 more and let you know my final outcome!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
