Pros:

My back acne is gone and my facial acne is significantly better, but I am also using the topical drug BenzaClin and I think that is working very well also. I am 42 years old and have suffered my whole adult life with acne.

Cons:

It does make you feel rather nausiated. My Dr. suggested I try 1 a day to get used to it. I did with no effects so I tried 2 and got grounded. I quickly went back to 1, and am still on 1.

It works if you have acne that is treatable with antibiotics, but may not be worth the side effects. I'm considering going off of it and just using the topical BenzaClin.

Pros:

Cons:

Caused me to break out in HIVES for 2 weeks. Worst 2 weeks of my life. Not worth it.

Dont take it

Pros:

My back acne has cleared up.

Cons:

Loss of appetite, stomach upset, spotting for a week now (which my derm. says is not related to taking the medication...I never spot though), my face has not cleared up yet!!

I'm happy my back cleared up but my face still looks bad...maybe it would be worse if I wasn't taking it. I don't feel good about taking it after reading the problems all these people have had. It hasn't worked wonders yet...I'll give it a bit longer.

Pros:

I was not able to take it long enough to see any pros.

Cons:

Within a few weeks, I broke out in hives and got a yeast infection from the medication. My dermatologist quickly took me off of it.

I am sure it works for some people, but beware of the side-effects, and monitor yourself.

Pros:

I've only been on this for 2 days and the redness from my acne has already started to clear up. I have cystic acne and I think I can tell it starting to help, although current cysts have seemed to get worse. But, it's only been a few days...

Cons:

I don't like not being able to take it with food. Dr. told me to take it with food it just wouldn't be absorbed as well, so of course I don't eat with it. Makes you just a little dizzy, just drink lots of water...

We'll see... I'll keep you updated. But definitely helping with redness already!

Pros:

I think it was working really quickly, within a few days. But my doctor gave me a high dose.

Cons:

Severe stomach cramps, throwing up,... etc! After 3 days I was so ill I could barely move. Stopped taking it and I got better. Acne returned almost immediatly, and i think it was worse.

If it doesn't make you sick, go for it. my doctor also said that i wouldn't have to always take it, just for a few weeks at a time.. (lie). My dermatologist disagreed.

Pros:

It worked good for me, stopped new cyst from forming

Cons:

After the initial breakout, mino brings out the cysts that were currently being formed under the skin which is normal but still a con. It did not cure my acne but kept it a bay as long as I was taking it.. Plus you can't take with calcium

It kept my acne at bay but did not cure it, I am currently weining off of this to see if it will cure my acne this time around..

Pros:

Althought it took a couple of weeks for the antibotic to kick in, it really did help with my acne a lot. I was so happy that I didnt have to worry about my acne any more, and when I did get pimples they were really nothing.

Cons:

However 6 months in taking the medication,I developed severe headaches, neck pain, and double vision. The medication caused me to get a Pseudotumor in my brain causing double vision.I had to stop taking the pills, and was upset when
I got acne agai

Just be careful of what antibotics you are putting into your body. Before taking the medience check all the side affects, because it can cause serious damage. I was lucky I stopped and went to a very well known hospital, who diagnosed me quickly. Even though my double vision should go away, it may give me perament damage to my optic nerves. I was in pain for a month, and I mean severe pain, just ask questions before you pop pills into your body.

Pros:

it does help prevent more pimples from forming. but it does'nt seem to be making them go away.

Cons:

ringing in the ears. you start to feel more tired all the time. i doesnt really help to make the pimples go away

It will stop your acne from forming to a certian degree but it doesnt seem to make them completely go away.

Pros:

It starts working right away if it's the medication for your system (my acne didn't respond to Doxycycline, all the topicals, etc.). Worked well in adolescence and just started it less than a week ago and it's cleared up more than 50%.

Cons:

It kind of makes me feel nauseated at times and it is an antibiotic so it kills all the good bacteria in your stomach. It is tolerable and I took it for over a year without any side effects.

it seems to have jump started my acne recovery (yet again) and is giving me hope!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
