Pros:

none

Cons:

Very little benefit and issues with yeast infections later in life.

I took this as a teenager for horrible acne for 2-3 years, and I still fight with as an 32 year old adult with Duac, which works pretty well. Anyway, be warned about taking antibiotics as a teenager for acne! Antibiotics will not work well for you later in life when you really need them, and you may develop recurring yeast infections from chronic antibiotic use, which become another uncomfortable battle regardless of acne. I blame the long-term use of minocycline on my issues with yeast infections as an adult. For the little benefit you see from antibiotics, it's not worth the long-term issues.

Pros:

inexpensive. Worked at first...

Cons:

Now I'm in my second month of taking the mino daily and I'm breaking out much worse than before! I am wondering if this is a one time last breakout or if this is not the drug for me.

I need to go back to my dermatologist.

Pros:

cleared up cystic acne after the 1st week, im just noticing the results after 1.5 months. my skin is more even toned and breakouts are less constant. It takes time to see results but its worth it

Cons:

headaches the first 3-5 days. Except for that there are no significant side effects. been taking 100mg minocycline daily on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and waiting 45min before having breakfast

to be really specific i started with an initial dose of 200mg and tapered down to 100 mg daily every morning on an empty stomach. 1st week: cleared up cystic acne on neck and jawline 2nd week: acne seemed to stop but redness and inflammation wouldnt go away 2-4th week: had some breakouts, less than before starting treatment, but acne redness and inflammation hadnt subsided 4-6th week: acne that appeared on problem areas has stopped, rednes has been reduced significantly and skin is more even toned. Have had a couple cystic pimples (small size) on places where it normally wouldnt appear but they have quickly dissapeared 3-4 days after. *im pretty satisfied with the results, i still have 1 more month to go and i will recommend it. by the way ive been using Proactiv along the treatment. I think it works even better if a topical is used alongisde an oral

Pros:

i'v been on this for about six months, and my skin has been flawless! i dont even need spot treatments, and my skin care regimen only consists of a mild cleanser, its all i need.

Cons:

i have a sensitive stomach and lately the side effects have been pretty bad. nausea is the worst, but its worth it because my skin is perfect

good as long as side effects are manageable

Pros:

None in my opinion.

Cons:

I've been using this for a little over a month and a half with the Clean and Clear acne kit- no difference whatsoever. It doesn't really help with my blemishes(my main problem). It also made me dizzy and have headaches.

Try some other pill(or any other treatment) before trying this. I asked my dermatologist about whether it helps with oily skin, and he said that this pill doesn't help at all, so if you have oily skin and want something that'll help with that and acne, minocycline won't help you in that department. Definetly not worth all the headaches and dizzy spells.

Pros:

I have seen a dramatic change in my acne since i started minocycline (about 6 weeks ago)My chest and back are clearing fairly quickly, and i have next to no pimples, just red marks on the jawline waiting to be cleared by the Stivea-A Cream i use.

Cons:

Can't be taken with food, I have yet to go off minocycline, so i really hope my acne stays away for good(i am only 18). Causes minor nasuae with me in the mornings

Great product, cheap, easy to keep on track with, minor side-effects, and the results you see can be seen within a few weeks of taking the pill.

Pros:

Got rid of most acne. Easy to take. Cheap with insurance.

Cons:

Takes a long time to start working. Acne seemed to get worse before better. Can't take with food.

Overall this medicine has worked very well for my acne. Don't expect immediate results because it takes a few months to start working...but the end results are definetly worth it.

Pros:

good stuff

very good. do not take thios medicine with calcium or iron at the same time. you should have at least a 2 hour gap between taking the medicane and taking in food that has iron or calcium. if you eat breakfast at 8 am in the morning, you should only be drinking this medicine at around 10:30. then at 12:30 you can eat what you want. remeber anything with calcium in it like milk, cheese , butter wil absorb the minocycline and it wont work. you have to follow a daily routine and try to drink at the same time everyday.

Pros:

Red spots would start fading quicker decline in the number pimples you get

Cons:

None really people are too sensitive when they say all thiese negative things about the drung.

This drug was a prescription from my doctor. Take it once a day 100mg. It was a step 2 of a 3 step system which i was put on. Bottom line its making difference. Because i was stationed in Iraq the stress and fear of war i developed acne and it got so bad that it came to the attention of the my doctor. Like any damn medicen it will take time. Reading all those negative comments from people its just a shame.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
