Cons:

bruises that just wont go away

so minocylcine is great for the acne but the side effects suck if you get them. i get dizzy almost every time i get up. also i am also having problems with bruising, i have bruises all over my legs that just wont go away and they've been there for 6 months...i hope im lucky enough to not have thme forever...but then again im not usually a very lucky person

Pros:

the treatment has really worked for me

Cons:

however it does not stop the brake out completely there seems to just be a shift in the areas were the spots will come up, i have also heard that you shouldnt take these tablets while inthe sun frequently

it recomendable because i think it can work for 1 person and then not for the next so just try it for a few weeks and see what you think your self. i have also heard that you shouldnt take these tablets while in the sun frequently therefore you people who live in hot countrys such as america maybe thats why? also look out for any skin pigmentations which my orise this is 1 of the main reasons i didnt take the pills.

Have only been on minocycline for a week now in conjunction with Lanate cream. Normally i only seem to get little pimples on my top of arms & back. But since taking this ive noticed Ive been getting breakouts on my face which im not happy about at all!! Haven't experienced headaches apart from today but i think thats because i had a late night last night. How long does this stuff take to work and does it get worse before it gets better on mino? Ive read it works from inside out so maybe its my skin cleaning out the pores making way for beautiful skin!!

Pros:

Haven't noticed it working too well. Have been on the stuff for about 6 weeks. Although I have noticed that the acne that does STILL appear; seems to "go away" and forms into minor scars a little quicker than before.

Cons:

No side effects AT ALL.

No side effects at all (for me) and so I would recommend trying it (mino). Maybe it will work wonders for you, or just make your acne a little easier to bear (like it did for me).

Pros:

My skin does feel less oily, no other pros. Been on it for a week.

Cons:

So far my skin has been worse than it was before, and I'm using it in conjunction with BP and Tretinoin

I've tried a lot of topical creams and tetracylcline with no long lasting success, hoping this antibiotic won't give me many side affects.

Pros:

can't see any as of yet (6weeks)

Cons:

made my acne much worse without signs of improvement

I am 20 years old an started to develop moderate/mild acne over the last year. I have been on minocycline for almost 6 weeks now. The first 4 weeks I noticed no change. The 5th week I started to break out worse than ever. I even took off from work today because I was too embarrased to see anyone. I am now in my 6th week and just added Retin-A Micro to my routine as per my derm. I am hoping this helps but heard this also makes acne severly worse before better. I am not trying to scare anyone from using this product.. but if you occasionally or rarely break out i would reccommend just dealing with it and skipping this all together!

Pros:

Started clearing up skin.

Cons:

Pretty bad headaches for weeks and dizzyness

It started to clear up my skin in the first 2 weeks. But its hard because I sometimes forget to take my pill, dont drink enough liquid when taking it and the whole dairy thing kinda sucks. Its hard not being able to have dairy. I blame myself that I broke out and the pill stopped working. Im gonna ask my doctor to either up my dosage (I take 50mg 2 times a day)or try something else.

I am a 16 year old guy and it is only recently that i have been forced to really find a way to treat my acne. up until about 6 months ago, i really didn't have all that much trouble with acne at all, aside from the occaisonal pimple. After i began to notice that my acne was worsening, i began using Spectro Jel to try and clear up my face a little. after about a month of very little results, i decided to see a doctor, who prescribed me clindoxyl gel. It worked great at keeping away any real noticeable pimples but i was still left with some pimples under my skin for some reason. i went back to my doctor, who prescribed me Retin-A 0.025. It worked great on the pimples that remained under the skin but i stopped using it cause it made my face red and dry. About a week ago, i was perscribed minocin to go along with my regular clindoxyl and spectro gel. So far the only complaint i have is that post-workout recovery seems to be more strenuous than it used to be. Minocin is helping great though

Pros:

Cleared up my spots within 2 days, great for skin i would say but...

Cons:

made me have headaches in the morning, constant brown/wholemeal bread taste in my mouth, which teeth brushing and mouthwash doesnt cure.
Makes me feel dizzy especially after working out in the morning.

Okay but i wouldnt use for long term. If you need your spots cleared up good use for special occasions but side effects arent worth it. Stopped use now.

Pros:

Seemed to clear up cystic acne.

Cons:

After two weeks I had a horrible allergic reaction, acid-reflux on crack, and was unable to eat or drink for a week. I was taken to the ER for the pain and the doctor took me off of Minocycline. It also interferes with Birth Control pills.

Unsure of longterm effects, but seemed to help clear my skin while I was on it. Not worth a trip to the ER and inability to eat or drink anything.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
