Pros:

Acne clearing slightly so far. Not as hungry.

Cons:

I was warned by my doctor to take it after dinner on a full stomache and so far I've had no stomache issues. One night I even took it after just eating a banana and I was fine.

I just started using it a couple days ago but I'm noticing all my acne is drying up and most of it is rising to the surface quikly, not so pretty but at least its disapearing. I will absolutely post back wiht more information, but I hope this works. I've tryed Proactive and that just sucks. Im using Duac Gel each night and Clindamycin Phosphate wipes in the morning with a gentle face wash, hope this does the trick :)

Pros:

Relatively cheap

Cons:

Kills your stomach, explicit instructions to take on an empty stomach, little to no effects after 4 weeks

I never had breakouts until my early 20's, and even then, they were mild. I was put on Differin, and then Doryx after no results. It's been a month now and the acne has not cleared up one bit, maybe even gotten worse. Checked in with the doctor bc I was concerned and she was just as boggled, yet just upped my intake to twice a day. Very confused since I had mild acne to start with and these prescription drugs are not helping. Been on Differin for 7 weeks now, as well. May check with a new dermatologist in Atlanta.

Pros:

Really clears my skin

Cons:

take on a FULL stomach

I was prescribed 100mg twice a day actually for a different reason to keep my body for getting infected after a surgery, but I noticed my skin is really clear so I did research and found out that this is also used for acne. Go figure!

Pros:

Seems to even out skin tone, skin appears fresher and less red for the most part. It hasn't given me any side effects such as nausea, however I do avoid milk products.

Cons:

Has not really helped my pimples, still have acne but i've only been using this for one month and apparently you have to wait 3 months to see any great achievements.

This is a good inexpensive acne treatment. I'd tried all sorts of products from the chemist, and treatments I'd found on the internet such as zinc cream, calamine lotion, honey, toothpaste. None of it worked. I finally went to my doctor who prescribed me with this (50mg a day) and also a topical gel called Duac. I also wash my face with L'Oreal Pure Zone and use the toner and moisturizer. I used to use Cetaphil which is another great product for sensitive skin. After 2 months I'll leave more feedback. It should be noted that I'm 22 and suffer from adult acne which is mainly around my chin and mouth, and I believe that this is not due to anything hormonal.

Pros:

1. Best Acne Antibiotic I have used
2. Clears up within 2 weeks

Cons:

1. Side effects are awful
2. Taken on an empty stomach ... you will cry ...for over a week!
3. Headaches, tiredness

It was easily the best antibiotic I have used and I have used quite a few which had done nothing until then: oxytetracycline, erthromycin, minocycline, trimethroprim . Yet, after a few weeks one night I took it before bed with a bit of water and woke in the night unable to swallow as if a wire brush was stuckdown my throat. I went to take a drink and it hurt more. Turns out it had burnt my oesophagus and all my stomach lining was gone! I couldnt eat anything solid, hot or lukewarm for about 2 weeks and it was the worst time of my life. A very strong antibiotic with bad side effects take with caution if need be.

Pros:

It so far has cleared up my acne for the most part.

Cons:

It takes a while for it to work.

I have very sensitive skin. I tried pro active, and broke out! Nothing seems to work for me. I don't take medicine, as I don't really believe in them, but I started taking this at 50 mg, twice a day, and cleaning my face with a special face wash I was prescribed by my dermatologist, and now after about 3 months, my face is very clear! I would recommend it to everyone, just give it time!

Pros:

i have only used it for about 4 days and i am noticing a difference in my skin, it may just be me imagining it, but i think it is really helping

Cons:

my very first dose i took on an empty stomach like it is advised to do, but i got extremely sick and threw up all morning, now i have a banana or yogurt first and then take it

its alright so for, it may work differently for different people. i would not recomend taking it on an empty stomach though

Pros:

Taking for a little over a week and I'm already seeing improvement in my body acne

Cons:

No cons for me so far

When the dermatologist saw the severity of my bacne, he prescribed me 100mg twice a day, a relatively high dose. I've been on for just over a week and I am beginning to see clearing starting with my shoulders. I've had no side effects whatsoever. No heartburn or stomach upsets, whether I take it with little or a lot of water, food or empty stomach. Doxycycline is often used long term, is good for many other conditions, and seems to have beneficial health effects aside from the antibiotic action such as reducing general inflammation. Generic prescription drug, covered on plans.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
