Pros:

It seems to be working have been on it for 3 months and have another 3 months to go. so hopefully it clears right up.

Cons:

made me sick if not eaten with food. takes a while to work

it works well and hopefully will clear my acne fully by the end of the 6 months.

Pros:

Works fast (for me)
Cheap
No side effects

Cons:

none so far!

I've had mild acne for about 4 years now. This past year it has become worse. I've been breaking out in combination acne (nodules included). I went to my dermatologist and he prescribed me Retin-A micro with docycycline. I was in the middle of a pretty bad break out at the time and it cleared up within 2 days! I highly recommend the use of the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator 2 times a week with treatment - it does a great job of sloughing off dead skin. IMPORTANT: I've read some posts here about people who are using Retin-A with Benzoyl Peroxide and not seeing results. DO NOT use the two together! BP neutralizes the effects of Retin-A rendering it useless. The Retin-A web site states this!!

Pros:

It is cheap and seems to be working already.

Cons:

Gives me an upset stomach.

If I can see a difference after only a week then I am hopeful that it continues to deliver good results.

Pros:

Doxycycline worked very well on my skin. I used to have flawless skin and during my 1st semester of college, I had horrible nodular acne. Doxycycline worked very well in reducing the inflammation and also the amount of acne! I strongly recommend it.

Cons:

Takes a long time; It took me a month to work. It made my acne worse before it got better. DO NOT take it on an empty stomach, I threw up a couple times due to this mistake and I had an intense stomach pain for a couple hours. Take it after a meal

I had a LOT of acne and this medicine definitely made it better. I was taking Retin-A and clindyamicin pledgets and benzoly peroxidie cream along with this. However, it helped a lot. I am still taking it and it helps.

Pros:

Doesn't make me sick and may have slightly improved my acne. I have taken for 5 weeks and don't see much improvement. I actually stopped taking it for a day but read this site about the six week mark which is doc. did say at least 6 weeks to 3 mo.

Cons:

Disappointing results for 5 weeks of taking. I took another antibiotic for two weeks for a urinary tract infection which did work.

I'm not sure this works. Dossage 100 mg twice a day.

Pros:

This sh*t works but you have to take it for atleast 2 months, and I did so taking the highest dosage(200mg a day). You will begin to notice pimples which come back in the same spot stop coming back at first. Its cheap and effective.

Cons:

Im 6'2 185 pounds and I threw up a couple of times. Despite this IT CLEARLY STATES THAT YOU TAKE IT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. if you must take it with food, only a couple of plain crackers will do.

Certain minerals and vitamins bind with the medication make it much less effective. The directions clearly say only take it with a lot of water, so I dont know what these people are saying "must take with food". Maybe thats why it isnt working for them. Overall this works, but expect to take it continually for 3 months before being totally clear.

Pros:

Face cleared up a little.
Redness went down a little as well.
Pretty cheap.

Cons:

Takes a really long time to start working.
Some nausea.

Age: 19 Male Doxycycline takes a long time to start working. I was on it for a month and was also given Differn to put on at night by my Doctor. I coudln't take this medicine on an empty stomach or else I would become nauseas and uncomfortable for about an hour or so. After a month there wasn't much of a change and my Doctor took me off of it and told me to see a Dermatologist and talk about Accutane. Hopefully Accutane works, i've read a lot of great reviews for it. I'm only going to recommend this item because it did work a little and everyones skin is different so for some it could possibly work better.

Pros:

Completely stopped the formation of all new acne; literally started working within days; insanely cheap

I've been taking two 100mg pills a day for the past few months. Within the first week, my acne completely stopped--now I get only one or two new zits every few weeks. Before this, I had up to a dozen new white heads a day, plus a cyst or two every week. Truly the miracle drug for me.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
