Pros:

cleared up neck and jawline acne

Cons:

makes me feel sick if taken without food (lightheaded, dissy)

for taking this pill everyday (I've been taking it for about 7 months) and the side effects gotten, this is not worth taking. I believe it stopped the huge cystic acne and controlled my face a little, but not enough to recommend this anti-biotic.

Pros:

~Got rid of zits while taking it

Cons:

~Caused red and itchy bumps all over arms, hands and legs because of a little sun exposure
~Caused upset stomach
~Acne came back after stopping

I wouldn't recommend it if you have mild acne, i suggest only take it if you have really bad acne. It caused pain from the sun all over my skin and i had to stop taking it, then my acne came back, not worse or better (about the same).

Pros:

Cleared my acne all, wherever it was

Cons:

Stopped working
now acne is worse

Like all antibiotics, the body will build up a tolerance. Now, the acne is back and AWFUL.

Pros:

Somewhat affordable. Doesn't taste bad.

Cons:

Didn't improve skin. Pills were hard to swallow due to its size.

I was on this antibiotic for 2 months. My forehead cleared up, but the rest of my face was breaking out pretty badly. I'm also using Atralin gel at the same time, so the breaking out or purging was probably caused by or with the gel, and not the antibiotic itself.

Pros:

Seemed to be drying out acne

Cons:

made my stomach upset
severe allergic reactions

I started using this and it seemed to be doing what the doctor said it would do. LIke a week later i started noticing blurry vision, and swelled throat, and painful sores in my mouth. My body reacted very bad to doxycycline, so i cant say that it wouldnt have worked.

Pros:

Noticeable difference within 4 days
Pretty cheap cost
Easy to take pills compared to a regimen

Cons:

Not a huge difference in amount of acne
Made my stomach hurt a couple of times
An antibiotic, not healthy for prolonged periods of time
Found better options

I took two 100mg pills a day for about 15 days and it really didn't make much of a difference, I switched to AcneFree severe and that has worked much better in just days. The pills still had me producing new acne almost every day. For a prescription I was expecting much better results. For the time that I took the pills I also seemed to be in a bad mood for a major part of the day.

Pros:

-Still get new pimples but they are smaller than before.

Cons:

-Stomach aches
-Constipation
-Redness
-After one month it causes you to break out more

I have been taking this pill since July 17, It is now August 24 &I have seen hardly any results. The dermatologist said it is normal to see acne get worst after 4 weeks, then 2-3 weeks after you should starts seeing progress. I have no self esteem what so ever. If you are on this pill and see no results you're not alone. I cry over acne too. I'm not going to get to sad over until my next appointment, if you see no results after that time period then worry. Not now, just wait and see.

Pros:

Cleared up about half of my acne

Cons:

Take with food
Stops working when you stop taking it.
You cant take for long periods of time

I am just about 30 and have looked far and wide like most of us for a cure. I started years ago with proactive and other over the counter meds that helped until I stopped taking birth control pills and proactive at the same time then it was all down hill. Solodyn was my first prescription and worked very well until I stopped taking it. Now Im getting off of Doxy with two topical creams one with benzoyl one with retinal-a and a face wash with salicylic acid. After the first week of the driest red face ever my acne started to go away but over the next 6+ months of taking Doxy my acne has come back. I am still on my search and have just ordered KAVI skin care system.

Pros:

works well & fast

Cons:

may not be right for everyone!
very strong drug

Doxycycline may work wonders for some users. However, I am a 22 year old girl and started developing serious acne for the first time a couple of months ago. I have been taking doxycycline for two months, and have seen great results. However, I discovered after my skin cleared that my acne is hormonal. I am only getting breakouts before my period. I am asking my doctor to switch to Aldactone! P.S. DO NOT take this on an empty stomach! Eat a piece of bread etc. before taking

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
