Pros:

Worked for around 5-6 months, was overjoyed at the results. Have never experienced any side effects from using it.

Cons:

Came back after 6 months, slowly built up to being worse than before. Now taking 2 per day but to no avail. Will be consulting doctor for something stronger... acne is a burden I can't bear any more and i'm sure others feel the same at some point.

I would take it as a first resort to get rid of it but as soon as acne starts to reappear see your Doc and make him aware it's reappearing. I haven't as I thought upping the dose as my obvioulsy unlearned Doc said would clear it. I have read on here what I thought myself... IT WORKS FOR A BIT, THEN STOPS OUT OF NOWHERE!

Pros:

This antibiotic is amazing! I had moderate acne all over my face, and about 2 months after I started taking doxy, my face was totally clear! I still get some pimples around the time of my period, but it's a 98 percent improvement!

Cons:

It can make your stomach hurt/make you feel really nauseous if you take it on an empty stomach, so make sure to eat with it! (trust me, I learned the hard way!)

It's definitely worth the money and effort of taking it twice a day.

Pros:

Don't need to take it so strictly. I take it at different times at night each day - still works.

Cons:

None
They won't give me a repeat prescription, and there is only 28 in a bottle. So i have to pay gap every month at the doctors to get a new script

I didn't find I had stomach problems, and I never take it with food. I first was on it a few years ago and it worked amazingly. Went off it because my mother didn't like the idea of me on antibiotics. I decided i wanted to go back on because of all the cystic pimples I was getting. After 1 month I still haven't gotten rid of the all dark spots from scars, Ive had a few little pimples but they go away over night with benzol 10% cream. BUT NO CYSTIC PIMPLES. which is what I wanted!

Pros:

Anti-Biotic, kills acne in lower skin sectors, where it starts. It works excellent, just needs time. (Roughly 4-6 weeks before it kicks in). It prevents the future breakout of acne as wel.

Also, Apparently makes a great placebo.

Cons:

Symptoms, Takes at least a month to see full blown effects. Gastric Reflex, Nausea.. You Takes five weeks to kick in,
can't lie down for 45 minutes after taking. It's a pill, and it tastes bad.. Also, acne gets worse before it get's better.

Due to the particular properties of this medicine, It Will get worse before it gets better, and here's why. As this anti-biotic works to clear the bacteria from underneath your skin pores, the pores will become unblocked. The chemical will trigger a responce from your immune system, actualy causing breakouts. This responce is not caused by the chemical itslef, rather by the new flow of both chemical and pus through the newly opened pores. Usualy any change in the body will trigger a responce from your immune system, as will this particualr medicine. Fortunatly, after roughly four weeks, your immune system will build up a resistance to the anti-biotic, while the acne bacteria will not. Only in very rare cases will the acne bacteria build up a resistance, and that itself takes at least five months. However, usualy after two or three months, the acne has been sufficantly reduced to allow your immune system to start fighting it, and prevent future breakouts. Overall, Great if you need it.

Pros:

I've been taking it for two and a half months and I notice that I don't get any deep deep zits anymore.

I'm writing this from a mental point of view. I can't believe I am even bringing my fingers to this keyboard to write something on an ACNE site. I've never had mild acne until this summer when it hit me like a ton of bricks. A ton of big, fat, scabby, zitty, bricks. Its only a zit! But it wasn't A zit...I dont smother my face in the pillow and spend my whole summer alone in a bed because of A zit. Go outside and have fun! But you can't have fun when you can't be in control of how you look. I must admit, I still don't have it as bad as other people... but the breakouts that I use to have once or twice a year come to me every week now. I really want to find hope in this medicine. Not to sound ignorant but if we can do amazing things like brain surgery or gastric bypass (spelling?) we should be able to find one pill that helps us. I'm sick of having false hope's and up's and down's. I just hope I can look back on this and laugh or say "Thank God Its over" ya know?!

Pros:

Clears and smooths skin, makes it less sensitive and easier to look after. Overall I look a hell of a lot healthier after using Doxy.

Cons:

I got sick from taking doxy on an empty stomach and with not enough liquids and it was really painful, so make sure you dont lie down for a while after taking it and drink lots of water. it makes you feel a bit sick so take after eating.

If anyone reading this has Rosacea I strongly recommend asking your doctor to put you on Doxy. I've never had particularly bad acne but recently my skin was getting worse (lots of rash like pimples on my cheeks, neck and back, skin felt painful and inflamed that my doc diagnosed as Rosacea). I've been on Doxy for about 5 months and my life is a hell of a lot easier and happier now that I dont have to worry about how awful my skin is going to look when i get out of bed in the morning.

Pros:

It works like a charm! really really well! least for me it did!

Cons:

antibiotics are dangerous and if youve ever taken a single dose of them you have a candida yeast over growth in your body which can be harmull in many ways. they also supress your immune system.and it comes back but not as bad.

i took it twice. cleared me up like a charm both times.

Pros:

its takes time for full results, but definatley works, take it from me, i went too 2 doctors, trying every presciption cream on the market.

Good luck, im so happy i can talk to girls again

Ive been on doxy for 2 months, its the only thing out there that did anything, take it after your biggest meal, i was supposed to continue with like 6 creams, but after years and years of searching, im so sick of creams they havnt been doing anything, so i have been pretty much leaving it up to doxy now that my face isnt so gut wrenching to look at, still wash face everyday, creams might make it work quicker, i cant believe i wasted a year and hundreds of dollars trying to find a cream, i didnt think a pill would work, so if u get anything i recomend this one.!

Pros:

It works very well for about 6 months. Then I developed bacterial resistance to doxycycline.

Cons:

A test done in 2001 showed that 55.5% of the people developed bacterial resistance. [link removed]
The acne came back after about 6 months.

Works well for a while, but if you are unlucky it will become resistant like a flu virus and come back. Bacteria mutates and it is clear that it did. It's cheap, but temporary results.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
