Doxycycline is an oral antibiotic that works by fighting bacteria in the body, including in the skin, and also reduces inflammation. It should be used only short term (max. 3 months).

It is usually prescribed at a dose of 50 to 100 mg once or twice per day.

Pros:

im lookin hella sexy again! only took a week.

Cons:

skin peels hella for bout 3 days so u cant leave da crib

it works hella fast, within a week i found i had no more acne on my face. use it on a friday n stay in all weekend, get a good moisterizer, i use chepitphil or some thin, n a good oil free lotion, and in about a week u will have your sexy back!!

Pros:

cleared up all my cystic acne and big blemishes

Cons:

it takes a few weeks for it to properly kick in, still u hav to stick 2 it every day (routine is the only way!!!)

just after xmas my skin broke out sooo badd! i felt realy low and cudnt bear college, work and even tlkin to my friends. however i started to take 100mg of doxy once a day every morning with water and i hav dun so for the last 6 weeks without fail and my skin is looking so much better. i am also using a differin gel (0.1%)every night which also helps out alot. The only problem is that i have quite alot of scarring from my massive break out after xmas but there is no inflammation.

Pros:

Clears up your skin really well - Made my skin 95% clear and I had severe acne.

Cons:

If you quit, you WILL go back to breaking out, in most cases, more severely than before. Long term antibiotic usage causes candida overgrowth giving you small white bumps over your face.

I wish I never took Doxycycline or any other antibiotic for that matter, because I used to have minor acne, and now it's much worse because I quit. I know that once I get back on it, it'll make things better, but I hate the side effects of candida and skin darkening because of sun sensitivity.

Pros:

It WORKS!!!!!!

Cons:

If you don not take with a meal or plenty of water you may have horrible heartburn or nasuea

My skin is beautiful now! I have moderate/ mild acne prone skin and i have been suffering from acne for 6 years and after trying like a billion products this REALLY WORKS!!! The texture and complexion is so amazing! I hardly ever break outanymore! Hey its worth a Try!!!

Pros:

Totally works-i used it for two months and it cleared up my forehead cysts and chin pimples. Never had problem with stomach, etc. Just once a day 100 mg tablet.

Cons:

Left my skin clear but very dry-sandpapery. Nothing lotion can't fix. Must take it with something as will give you cramps or vomit.

Used for 2 months and quit because was worried about being on antibiotic for long period. Cysts came back and went to see Derm today to ask questions. Derm says the ONLY way to get rid of cystic acne is via antibiotics. you must fix from inside out. no topical ointment alone will get rid of it. I voiced concerns about long term antibiotic usage w/regards to immune system and she told me that Doryx (Doxycycline) does NOT affect your immune system in any way and is completely safe to take-even for years. Got 3 months worth. I am taking 100mg for 3 months to get rid of the acne, then i am going down to the 40mg to maintain. She also gave me samples of Ziana-a clindimycin/retin A (very little retin A) combo cream to "heal" my scars and current blemishes. ONLY use at night on spots only. I will update on the Ziana.

Pros:

its really not too expensive. easy to use and works on mild acne

When taking this while also using duac gel, my skin cleared completely. I haven't experienced the nausea or other side effects. I have however heard that this pill can promote depression. I don't know if this is true or not?

Pros:

Will make you nauseous!!

I have struggled with acne my whole life tried all different types of face washes, prescriptions creams, recently even tried a laser treatment which was a waste of money. The Doxy is sort of my last hope. I am also using Duac cream at night. It has only been 3 days but I haven't had any new breakouts which is good and I notice some scars fading. Not sure if it's the Duac or Doxy. I took the Doxy last night with outfood and literally 5 minutes later I was throwing up. Be sure to take it with at least some bread! I will review this product again once I've been on it a little longer.

Pros:

It works...
Doesn't HAVE to be taken with food even though that's what it says. my doc told me as long as you drink plenty of water with it you'll be fine.

Cons:

can't be taken without water....my doc told me that his son tried to take this without water and it was REALLY bad...

I like this product. I had bad acne (i walked into the doc's surgery for a cold and walked out with a prescription for this) after only a few days i noticed a difference in my skin, it had cleared almost completely on my left cheek and was clearing my forehead and the rest of my face gradually but reasonably quickly. I did have a sideaffect of a bit of nausea and breathlessness ( but i think that was because i was dumb enough to go to karate with tonsilitus)

Did absolutely ZIP for me. Used this for about 2-3 months with nothing to show.

Weak antibiotic, doesn't work.

Pros:

I have been taking it for 3 weeks. 100mg twice daily. I am already starting to see a difference. My face is still very broken out. But there are some spots that are starting to feel smooth.

Cons:

I have to take with a small meal, or else it will upset my stomach. Also can't drink milk for an hour before or after taking it, which bothers me because I drink a lot of milk.

Not sure if it will clear up my face completely. But for me it's worth a try, since nothing else will work.
