Pros:

it slowly will help you get better, but you have to be patient.

Cons:

takes a long time to work, but does work.

you should take this and apply a topical cream at the same time to see results

Pros:

Made the skin on my arms and back very smooth. I guess it's helping my face, I'm also using Differin and Benzaclin, so results could be from that.

Cons:

Makes you very thirsty, so be sure to drink lots of water.

I think it's working. I'm using two different topical products at the same time, so I'm not sure which is helping more, but I'm certain that it is helping the skin on my back and my arms. I have horrible breakouts there in the summer when I sweat and my skin is always rough and oily. Now that I'm on the antibiotic, I've noticed my skin is incredibly smooth and my marks are fading.

Pros:

I started to see results within the first month. I don't breakout as much.

Cons:

It leaves an upset stomach if not taken with food.

It controls breakouts pretty well just be sure to eat at least one hour before taking medication. Works better in the morning after breakfast and make sure to drink tons of water.

Pros:

Cleared my skin up pretty fast as far as my face it slowley is going away. Some small dots but as far as legions on my face NOT at all. My back is slowly getting better. One or two have came up.

Cons:

None really. Did cause Very small Yease Infection (YUK) which can be easly treated and is nothing compared to the pain of the acne i use to have

Obviously you need to take alot of WATER with the meds as it states on the bottle. No side affects unless you dont drink water. I use to take it before and it made me sick because i would wash it down with pop. DUH..Works good so far... only been taking for almost a month

Pros:

clears up skin

Cons:

takes forever to work, must take with food, breaks face out worse than already is

My face is clearing up, but it is taking forever to work. When I first started my face broke up horribly. It was so bad that I stayed inside for about 2 weeks. Along with the other stuff that I am using my face is now itching and drying out. In the long run the stuff works. Not immediately, but it works.

Pros:

It's helping to clear up my skin.

Cons:

Stomach upset, and take a long time to work.

I am in my 6-7 week and it's clearing up right now. I still have some scars and some small break ups.

Pros:

Works pretty well. Generic. Cheap. Didn't dry out skin or increase sensitivity to sun. After a while (and in passing) I noticed back acne was pretty much gone. Which is nice.

Cons:

Long-term effectiveness and long-term reliability does not impress me. Doesn't seem to hurt, though.

(I notice that "bottom line" is a misnomer. More like "full story.") Patient: 28 YO male. Symptoms: Generally bad, but not cystic, acne about nose and forehead, with irregular break outs taking skin from moderate to bad. Started using doxycycline 100mg once a day, prescribed by GP. Seemed to work really well for a couple months, then...not so much. After three months in I am questioning it's long-term effectiveness. I think I'll recommend minocycline to my GP, as that worked pretty well in my late teens. Bottom Line: Definitely not an end-all-be-all solution, but I'd recommend it.

Pros:

it seems like it was working

Cons:

DO NOT TAKE RIGHT BEFORE BED!!! my doctor never told me this and I developed 4 ulcers!!!! the drug went down and irritated my espohagus causing 2 ulcers then went down a bit more causing 2 more ulcers before it was done with the night.

I took this medicine for about a week or two and my face was clearing up. But then I took a pill right before I went to bed, so I guess the capsule never went all the way done and next morning I woke up with 4 ulcers in my esophagus!!!!!! I saw them on the endoscopy!! they were kissing ulcers. Let me tell you this is the worst thing I've ever experienced. I could not even drink water for couple of days because it was hurting so much! and it was causing a lot of belching which was then pushing up against the ulcers, and hurting them, I was so miserable!!! Doxy also made me not hungrey, I had no appitite and I LOVE FOOD! I must have lost 5 pounds when I started on the pill and then compounded with the ulcers, I was 10 lbs in the negative and I only weigh 110lbs to begin with (for 5'7" girl) I guess if you are looking to loose weight this is the perfect drug for you :)

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
