Pros:

Helped clear my acne with in a few months.

Cons:

After about six months my acne came back. I had to take twice a day, and make sure I took it on a full stomache. Made me nauseous and sleepy, and for all the sacrifice to make sure I took the perscription as directed it quit working.

It is not worth the restrictions of the drug. I still broke out and I had to lay off dairy and my multi vitamins. I don't mind jumping through hoops for clear skin, but after a year I am tired of sacrificing and still breaking out!

Pros:

Acne went down 80%!

Cons:

Upset stomach if you don't have with enough water or a little food.

This is pretty much a guaranteed help, if you stay on it and don't eat it with food. I stopped eating it with food when it wasn't working and about two weeks after my acne started to go away. I have way less acne now, but that last few spots still won't go away.

Pros:

Cons:

every morning i wake up with a few white heads, and i have developed small zits all over my lower cheeks and around my mouth.

I have been taking doryx for about 4 and a half weeks, and im hoping around 6 weeks my skin will begin to clear up. i started this medication after solidyn was no longer effective. i will write another review in 6 weeks.

Pros:

NONE! I used this product for over two months and it made my acne far worse. I know it was doxycycline that caused it. My pimples changed to small little whiteheads, about 8-10 new ones every day. That is far different that what I had before.

Cons:

Mainly nausea if not taken with food, can't have dairy products within two hours, can't have certain minerals within two hours, and worst of all, it caused my skin to break out very badly. It took months to clear up after stopping it.

Don't take it. Research shows that antibiotics, if taken too long could be bad. However, my recommendation for not taking it is mainly due to what it may do to your skin. I had mild (But consistent and stubborn) acne before taking this. Now I have moderate to severe acne. It has been several weeks since I stopped taking this, and my face is having fewer new pimples every day, but it will take a long time for the acne that is already there to go away. I regret taking this medicine.

Pros:

The medicine helped clear up my acne a little bit in the beginning.

Cons:

I barely noticed any results. Sometimes taking the medicine made me a bit nauseous. And the pills are huge!

I've had acne for several years now and I've tried basically everything, and nothing will get rid of it. I was on this medicine for about a year and noticed no change at all. However, I'm not saying it won't work for other people. Why not give it a try?

Pros:

I ve used it for like 4 days in conjunction with defferin@night and [email protected] few bumps that i ve had dried up.Minimal dryness,no itching or peeling yet, maybe too early..but yeah.. overall good stuff.

Cons:

Given that my problem is mostly hyperpigmentation and dark spots,it has not really improve that for me but again maybe too early.but i think notice more darkining..i dnt knw if its the topical gels or the doxi.

Every skin is different and if u dnt try,u would'nt knw what woks for u..So try it and please give it time...dnt be like me that expect miracles always.

Pros:

It takes time for it to work, but it does work.

Cons:

If you plan on being in the sun you cannot take this mediation, like me living at the beach for instance. Stomach aches and sickness also.

I would try to find another medication. You get intensive burns if being in the sun for not even an hour and sun block doesnt really help. i work in a position where i cannot just leave if i feel i need to run to the bathroom if i feel sick. It's proably just not the best choice out there

Pros:

Fades inflamation in a couple of weeks.
Covered by Insurance

Cons:

Nausea, Vomiting, Diareah

Ive been on the product for an exact month now and the stomach issues are making me want to rethink other options.
April 15, 2009

Pros:

works on mild acne

Cons:

hard to remember to take it everyday
takes a while to start working
stops working when you stop taking, tummy aches

this is a good treatment for mild acne and whiteheads. however i used it for two months with benzaclin treatment at night and in the morning with cetaphil wash, my acne went away for the most part. Then i stopped taking it and it came back twice as bad! im back on it now and forgot to take it with food again, so the whole stomach thing occured again. But my stomach deff got used to it last time i used it, i didnt even need to take it with food after a couple weeks. But now i have to wait for it to start working again and the BOTTOM line is who wants to take these bright blue pills for the rest of their lives? id rather find somthing that takes its away and keeps it away ( am i being unrealistic?)

Pros:

it cut down on my acne immediately and also it made the stye on my eyelid go away within 2 days, I know if I had not taken it would have lingered for at least 1-2 weeks. I have bad food allergies and acne and seem to have breakouts amost daily

Cons:

bad stomach pains, red face like a sunburn, even though I work indoors all day long, flank pain, severe diarrhea last couple of days, nausea, appetite loss,

I have had bad acne for 10+ years, the doxy helped but I will never take it regularly. It is not worth the side effects, even if I could get it for cheap from my insurance or my family. I don't think this drug is a cure since you have to keep taking it for it to work. Unfortunately for me my body and stomach is too sensitive. I would rather put something on my acne like a cream or powder rather then abuse my body w/this stuff. I have been taking 100 mg 2'xs daily for 1 week. It worked great on my stye on my eyelid which was forming, but I will not take it again unless I get another stye on my eye. If you do not have alot of other health concerns already then it may be good for you, but it sure wasn't for me. I got a sunburn yesterday while outside, and now I have a couple of cyst formations. It didn't knock me out like Zyrtec does, (also overrated) but I wouldn't give either one to my dog and will try natural treatments primarily in the future.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
