One of the less effective treatments out there. It should never be used on its own or for longer than 3 months and may lead to resistant strains of bacteria. It may provide a slight improvement in mild acne in some people.

Pros:

cleared up cystic acne on back and chest
foam is easy to apply

Cons:

can't travel with it - bottle is too large and because it is a foam, you can't put it in a smaller bottle

I had severe cystic acne on my back and chest from stress and other causes. After using Evoclin for a month, I have not had a single breakout. I can't say enough about the effectiveness of this product. However, you must be consistent with your usage. I can immediately tell the difference if I forget for a few days. I use it every time I get out of the shower. I would recommend washing your hands off afterwards because the product can really dry out cuticles, etc. Ask your Dr. for a prescription discount card.

Pros:

This actually works
Works under makeup
Makes my skin "glow"
Skin feels tighter

Cons:

Dries out face

I use this cream with Retina, and the combination does wonders. I use clindamycin throughout my day (under my makeup), and I've definitely seen improvement! My skin glows better than ever, and feels tighter. When you first start using clindamycin, remember to use in moderation. DON'T USE IT EVERYDAY! My skin dried out so terrible that it hurt to move my face. I rubbed large amounts of an aloe vera oil all over the dry areas for days, and get a GOOD moisturizer. Advice: ALWAYS moisturize esp. around eyes and mouth area!

Pros:

Keeps skin nice and clear
Light weight
Good for sensitive skin

Cons:

None so far

I've been using this for the past 5 months and my skin is really clear. I actually you this in conjuction to Clinique Acne moisturizer. I do use benzoyl peroxide when needed, but I've rarely had to since I started using this. But because my skin gets dry I've been using 100% pertrolleum jelly on my face when in the shower. I lather it on then rinse it off. I only do this once a week and it has helped keep my skin really nice and soft. I hope this does the same for you as it did for me.

Pros:

-kill zits FAST

Cons:

none for me

i don't use this very often because i don't get bad acne anymore. I use salycic acid daily. but when a pimple starts to form, i dab this stuff on, stops it right in its tracks! helps with my body-acne also, which is a bit worse than my face. i also have this condition where i sometimes get painful abscesses that will eventually turn into hard cysts that literally never go away unless i get surgery. this really helps to heal the abscess and greatly reduces the hardness, size, and gross-factor of the resulting cyst. this stuff, is MAGICAL.

Pros:

Easy to use (especially the lotion.) I just use it at night and I don't have to worry about looking oily during the day.

Cons:

Not 100% perfect, but I will happily take 98%.

This product works really, really well for me. I've been using it for a few years, and it keeps my face clear of cysts nearly all of the time. Every once in a while one will get through, but it is mostly clear.

Pros:

Fast results
Cheap
Can wear under makeup
Non-drying

Cons:

My feel burning sensation upon application

I started Clindamycin treatment a little over a week ago. I apply it topically twice a day in conjunction with Benzoyl Peroxide. I know its still early into the treatment but I had to leave a review on the progress so far because I am so pleased with the results. It has cleared up my skin amazingly! I had terrible acne and blemishes that were so hard to control. First my MD put me on Tretinoin but it made my face so dry and peel like an onion. Then he switched me to Clindamycin and I love it! It completely takes away any painful inflammation. All of my pimples were about half their size two days later. My forehead is totally clear now and it was broken out just a few days ago. My skin is finally getting under control. Also, I tend to have extremely dry skin and this medication does not dry it out.

Pros:

- Works and works fast
- I like the tube it comes in, dries up fast and comfortable to keep on over night
- Free since its a prescription!!!!

Cons:

- Bleaches clothes or towels
- Available by prescription only and only good for 4 months after opening

Ive been using treament gels for a long time now like benzoyl peroxide you can buy in stores the 5% ones. Which work well but this Clindoxyl gel (Clindamyncin phosphate and benzoyl peroxide) Is so amazing and so much better! You can only get it as a prescription well mine is a prescription... I have cystic acne that comes and goes and also have chest acne thats pretty bad. This will stop my acne from getting worse and will litterally heal my acne overnight. I do hate that it bleaches clothes I have to be very careful around new towels and new pjs.. But it works so thats why I use it. Cystic acne is very hard to get rid of and this stuff is the only thing that heals them fast! And its free since it was a prescription! And I cannot count how many usless acne products ive purchased through out the years!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
