Acne.org’s Real World Take
One of the less effective treatments out there. It should never be used on its own or for longer than 3 months and may lead to resistant strains of bacteria. It may provide a slight improvement in mild acne in some people.

Pros:

No side effects. Goes well under makeup.

Cons:

It smells like alcohol and doesn't work.

I'm using the solution in the mornings. By itself it's not effective. My skin is worse now than when I started, eventhough this is supposed to be an antibacterial solution. When I get out of the shower I look like I have a face full of bright red chicken pox. I'm supposed to be using Steivamycin in the evenings, but for some reason I get anxiety after I use it, so I've only been using the clyndamycin alone. It's not helping my skin at all.

Pros:

It cost absolutely NOTHING with my insurance!.Cleared my rash and regular bumps up in 3 days! LOVE IT!..so many compliments from coworkers!..The were so shocked it worked so fast!

Cons:

My chin would get irratated and red..but i just stopped putting it there..and its hard to tell if ur using to much when using ur finger..Would use i cotton swab

I just started using the product. Actually i had a rash on my face. They were little red bumps all over my face and i went to the doctors and the called ot a rash they didnt really know what exactly would work but they told me to take soome benedryl and the Clindamycin..well i did and the Clindamycin cleared my skin up the next day!.I still had a few. But i started monday and was clear by friday..not only did it clear the rash it cleared my bumps too..i have a few bumps on my forehead and one medium on my chin..but i think thats because it was bringing the oil out..Right now i get facials once a month and i have been using Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide Wash, and Lotion..at night..i hear Clindamycin and Peroxide together is suppose to be excellent..i was going to ask my doctor if i could use the Clindamycin every day..well according to everyone elses blogs i can..So im very pleased!

Pros:

Lasts a while if you use as prescribed; didn't make my acne worse. That's pretty much it.

Cons:

Made my skin more oily, took a while to absorb into the skin, and (most important of all) just didn't work.

For me, this was more or less useless. It didn't reduce any acne, and wasn't effective at all. It was basically like putting moisturizer on my face, almost like a thick water. If your skin is especially oily I wouldn't use it, but I guess for some skin types it might do something. Definitely not for mine, though. I guess it didn't make me any worse which was kind of a plus, but why use medication that doesn't do what it's supposed to?

Pros:

it's ok, no real pros

Cons:

no real cons

i have used a product called duac, which is a gel laced with benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin. i feel that this product is the product i would recommend the last, out of several prescription medicines i have tried. i feel that oral anti-biotics with a strong face wash (like brevoxyl, which is manufactured by the same company) is more effective combination than duac, probably because in the hot southern weather, i dont get a chance to leave duac on my skin for long. it perhaps gets to stay on my skin for 2 -3 hours before i wash my face. so if you live in a cold northern state, it may work for you better than it did for me. all in all, it's ok. btw, duac should be kept in a cool place like your refrigerator, and should be used within 60days. also coupon is available at [link removed]

Pros:

It dosnt cause redness too much and in about two weeks or so i really started to notice a differance

Cons:

It made me break out even worse: worse than my face has ever been at least for about a week or two until i started to notice any results

Its a great product and works in about a month.

Pros:

Kills the Acne P. Bacterial, Did a good job of clearing my Mild to Moderate Acne. (Combination of Whiteheads, Blackheads, Pustles and Cysts.) Great to use under makeup! I've use makeup daily keeps the acne under control. inexpensive

Cons:

Comes in a small bottle. May sting a little bit because of the alcohol base for some people. I was using astringent before so it didn't really bother me.

In my teens and 20's I used Clindaycin for years and had practically perfect skin. Stop using it because skin changed in my 30's got dryer until recently starting to have bad hormonal flare-ups resulting in many painful cysts practically weekly got back on Clindamycin and everything's back under control acne. Daytime: Use Clindamycin under my makeup. Night-time: Apply a base of Clindamycin on the skin and then apply a coat of Neutrogena Spot of Treatment 2.5%. Works great!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
