Pros:

Great partner in three front war

Cons:

None, but a bit worried about developing immunity.

I got tired of trying every over-the-counter gizmo and goop out there. I spent nearly 1K and it was all a waste. I was prescribed this medication and am using it in conjunction with Differin. I had no "purging" thanks to the Clindamycin. I don't either medicine would work well all alone. Acne is a three front war: Cleanse, exfoliate, and kill bacteria. I exfoliate with Differin, and kill bacteria with Clindagel and use only a very gentle AHA cleanser (from Frownies). I can now use sunscreen without breaking out -- and I really need it since using Differin. Anyone dissatisfied with their results should ask their doctor about adding an exfoliant to their treatment. If an immunity to the clindamycin develops, I believe there are other prescription bacteria killers (such as Klaron) which could take its place.

Pros:

It keeps me from breaking out and rids my skin of any new pimples pretty easily.

Cons:

I still experience breakouts on my shoulders when I get too much sun.

I would definitely recommend this medication if you have acne...but protect yourself in the sun!

Pros:

Easy to use, packaged is pre measured. helps clear acne up fast

Cons:

Pricey

I have been suffering from acne from the age of 12 (now 22). I had mild acne up until a year ago when my face broke out severly. I tried everything from Proactive (horrible), to every kind of product and everything made it worse. I finally went to the derm in December and he persribed me this (Cleocin Pledgelet Pads) along with Bactrim (an oral antibiotic to be taken morning and night) and Differin. The three together have made my face so clear. Yes, I have an occasional pimple here or there, but NOTHING like before. I also wash my face with the Glytone fash wash morning and night. Every time I feel a pimple coming on, I just go through my regimen and the next day I'm good to go! I would highly recommend this product to someone who thinks NOTHING will work!

Pros:

Cleared my skin Quickly. Saw results in the first week. After 2 weeks, hardly ever a pimple on my face or back!

Cons:

Yeast infections that were hard to cure. I've never had yeast infections before taking this.

It worked great for me! I had no side effects other than the yeast infections. It didn't make me sunburn easily like the cycline products do, which was a blessing as I love gardening. The cycline products made me burn so badly! I would recommend this if you are a guy and can't get the infections or females who are not prone to them.

Pros:

Worked well for the first 3 months

Cons:

Stop working after 3 months

works and then it stops working.
November 6, 2006

Pros:

Doesn't dry out the face, works reasonably well.

Cons:

leaves an "oily sheen" to face(tackyness, as others have observed), takes a while to work, can promote redness.

I've used this for over a year now. It's helped alot with not drying my face out which seemed to lead to huge breakouts, but has never cleared my skin completely. Also the effectiveness seems to have decreased over the past few months. Despite not being 100% effective, my face isn't as bad as it used to be and while I wouldn't swear by it I'm not throwing it out in a hurry. I say try it for two months minimum before coming to your own conclusion as it takes roughly a month before it takes full effect.

Pros:

nothing

Cons:

it made my acne look darker and more visable
it didn't help it at all

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
