Pros:

Worked for about a month.

Cons:

Dried out face, Worse acne then before, i have mild cystic acne, after using proactiv my face would have the cysts WORSE than ever before, left 2 dents already. These aren't the normal cysts... these won't go away :'( and PAINFUL!

Don't use this product if you have moderate-severe acne. Its not worth it, and it is very painful-leaves scarring!

Pros:

It made my skin softer

Cons:

It stops working over time, doesn't make your skin flawless. It's expensive

I've used it for 1.5 years and it's stopped working. I'm breaking out now just as much as before!
April 9, 2008

Pros:

works within 2 weeks( results vary)

Cons:

drys out your skin, if you don't use some time of lotion with it

use it, works faster than proactive, and results are better. Not to mention its much more affordable if you're going to use this on a daily basis. Overall, I would say this product made my skin look a lot better in a shorter amount of time than I expecetd.

Pros:

Good smell to it.
Cheap

Cons:

Makes your skin RED RAW, whcih for people like me, who have pale British skin isn't nice to look at! Looks like iv'e been sun burnt around my mouth.

It is a good product, I've been using it for 3 days now and my forehead had cleared up quite a bit. Not liking the redness though! :(

Pros:

Within days, I noticed a huge difference. It even got rid of the blackheads on my nose that most acne meds miss.

Cons:

It does dry out the face.

Well it dries the face so you have to spend more $$ just to get the special facial lotion. How many steps do you really have to follow and at what cost?
April 7, 2008

Pros:

fast, balances skin, reduces redness, for the first time ever i'm getting compliments on my skin

Cons:

alittle pricey but more than worth it and it lasts a very long time one pump of each is all you need.

i used the 3 step acne kit and had fast results but plateued. My skin wasn't bad but wasn't clear. REcently i decided to just use the mild liquid cleanser for oily skin and moisturing gel (amazing stuff) my skin cleared quickly, I'm not afraid to go out with no makeup on anymore. And when i added the total turnaround to my night routine my scars started fading while helping to clear the small pimples that are left. Skip the toner and expect great results!

Pros:

It smells nice and gives you a nice tingly feeling afterwards.

Cons:

I honestly don't see a difference.

After I'm done washing my face, it FEELs cleaner, but I see no difference. It doesn't make my sking better or worse.
April 2, 2008

Pros:

None for me

Cons:

Severe breakouts after a few days of using it
Terrible alcohol smell

Proactiv acne kit worked very well in the beginning, but its effect seem to fade and I've been breaking out horribly around my chin and jawline. the price isn't all that bad but its effectiveness is horrible, I am planning to cancel my membership and use exposed's acne treatment kit which I have heard is better than proactiv.
April 2, 2008

Pros:

clears skin for short time

Cons:

Just treats the symptoms of acne. Dries skin.

Eventually my acne got stronger than the product and my skin looks just as terrible now as it did before. For $60 a refill, I'd expect magical benefits. This is not a long term cure. It treats the symptoms and overall had no benefit. My skin started getting more wrinkles from it now because it is so drying.
April 2, 2008

Pros:

it works only if you keep using it

Cons:

See the think with this product is that you have to keep using it. The minute you stop, you will get more acne then you ever had before. Therefore I didnt keeping using it because I didnt wanna get "hooked"

If you are going to keep using it forever, then its good.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
