Pros:

Clearer skin than I've had in 13 years. Soothing fragrance, and even the "teen" formula does not dry skin out as much as others.

Cons:

None

Truthfully, the only product that gets my skin close to clear. I have been using this product for over a year now. I switched to another cleanser for one miserable month of breakouts and will stay with Carley's indefinitely! I also love the natural soap. It helps so much! $39 included two extra soaps and shipping.

Pros:

It's green.

Cons:

It didn't work! It's expensive. They make you a member of the "clear skin club" and they automatically send it to you every 3 months and charge it to your credit card.

Proactiv doesn't work, I went to a dermatologist and paid less for the visit and the antibiotic she prescribed than one order of Proactiv! My acne is cleared up, no thanks to Proactiv. It's not worth it.

Pros:

I noticed a difference the 1st day!! I woke up the next morning & my boyfriend said "wow. Your face REALLY cleared up." Best part-HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I was trying this product (something new), so I know it's not in my head. = )

Cons:

I am using BOTH the 2 step with the homeopathic tablets & the benzoyl peroxide vanishing cream (5%) WITH the Salicylic Acid & Papaya Enzyme kit (wash, toner & moisturizer).

Scent is not the greatest, & I wish the tablets came in a bottle.

I am 26, I started suffering from bad adult acne 3.5 yrs ago-NOTHING has worked! Have spent THOUSANDS of $'s on various treatments, changed my diet, quit smoking, started working out-u name it-I tried it! My acne is hormonal & I refuse 2 subject myself 2 side-effects, health complications (been there 2), etc. I'm not that vain-but still want clear skin I love BOTH these products. Perhaps they r designed 2 be used in conjunction w/ 1 another. The tablets cause no side effects at all. I like that they correct the problems from the inside naturally. The benzoyl peroxide Cream is not extremely drying as other forms of Benzoyl Creams. Perhaps because it contains Aloe Vera & Allantoin which soothe & moisturize skin. My face always feel super clean & soft after I use the facial wash-it doesn't irritate my skin like other cleansers I have used. The toner makes my skin glow & lessens the appearance of my pores. The moisturizer is perfect-not 2 oily-leaves my skin s

Pros:

Very effective.
Absorbed easily.
No scent.

Cons:

More costly than most other BP treatments.

I wouldn't use anything else.

Cons:

NOthing

IT WORKS!!!

Pros:

The price, the results, I LOVE IT!

Cons:

Wearing the repair lotion under my make-up makes my make-up "run" toward the end of my work day, but I do have oily skin so...

I have tried EVERYTHING from ProActive, prescriptions, glycolic peels, blah. this stuff really works. Stick with it. It will burn if you have sensitive skin, but give your skin time to "get used to it". I always joked that I would pay anything to get the top layers of my skin lasered (or burned off) for a new start, so I'll take a little burning and stinging.

Pros:

Excellent fresh feeling after using the cleanser. Seems to prevent breakouts and keep reddness down.

Cons:

The moisturizer runs out faster than the cleanser and the toner.

Overall, Clinique makes really good quality products from what I can see. The Acne Solutions is no exception. It is good for those of us with oily skin as it seems to keep the oily spots under control throughout the day. Also, would be good for sensitive skin too.

Pros:

They will work with you to set up a delivery schedule.
You can purchase all the components together, or separately as needed.
Love the refining mask!

Cons:

Doesn't work as shown on the TV.
Cost is unsatisfactory.
Can irritate the skin.

I stuck with the system and definitely saw a decrease in the amount of acne I was getting. However, for the price I feel like I'm not entirely satisfied with the results and will be trying out Dan's system. Proactiv seems to work well for some people, but for me it seemed to only work semi-well and has plateaued. A tip - when using the toner, don't use too much or you'll turn your face a little red.

Pros:

It's really helped my 16 year old son's acne, face and chest. This has helped more than the prescriptions we've bought.

Cons:

The Panoxyl does dry the skin considerably, but he also uses Cetaphil moisturizer to keep the scaly skin at bay.

One little side effect that's easily reversed wont stop him from using it. He saw a dramatic difference in his skin after about 2 weeks.

Pros:

it was a gift so i didnt have to pay for it

Cons:

after 2 uses i broke out in a bright red rash all over, skin is swollen and painful

i wont ever use it again, do a test spot on a hidden area for a few days before you use it on your face. i work w/ the public everyday and all day long for two days i listened to people say "omg what happened to your face"

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
