Pros:

Exfoliating, effective, outstanding customer service, fast shipping

Cons:

Stains clothing/bath towels

I love the Carley's product line. Used properly, these products (particularly the Acne Treatment, as pictured) is extremely effective and has played a major role in changing my complexion. The exfoliating properties of the scrub softens my skin incredibly, paired with the use of the washcloth and soap after scrubbing. The moisturizers are also wonderful, and so natural! I love that there is none of the junk you find in the "store bought" products. Why is there such a hang up about using products as they are naturally colored or scented? I love the natural soap as well. Very straightforward, multi-purpose bars with the ingredients plastered all over the label. Nothing fishy in there! The staining of the bath towels is to be expected, if the scrub is not used properly, as the product contains benzoyl peroxide - and I'm sure Proactiv does the same thing to fabrics. So just be careful - that's all you need to do.)

Pros:

- very cheap
- no smell
- goes on very lightly
- keeps my skin under control
- no need for moisturizer

Cons:

- still have the occasional pimple

This is the most cost-effective acne stuff I've ever used. Since it is moisturizing AND medicated with a low percentage of benzoyl peroxide, it follows "The Regimen." I put a bunch on my face every time I wash. Generally, I don't use a second moisturizer except around my mouth and chin, where I tend to be extra dry.

Pros:

lots of different products leaves face feeling fresh rite after you wash your face

Cons:

dries up the sking ,irritating if left on too long, makes your face break out worse than before i tried product

does NOT work.
August 29, 2012

Pros:

Inexpensive

Cons:

Formulations are inconsistent

When you get a bottle that is formulated correctly, the stuff is magic. When you get a bad bottle... well, it is worthless. Don't bother calling customer service as it states on the bottle- they are rude and worthless.

Pros:

worked at first

Cons:

MAJOR chemical burn, allergic reaction after months of use, now react to ALL benzoyl peroxide in any product. Makes my face puff out and eyes swell shut.

I used the proactiv system for over a year, then one day I noticed my eyes were puffy (and I never put it near my eyes). After stopping use, it is 2 years later and I tried using a different 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel for acne around my mouth and on my jawline. Again, nowhere near my eyes, but my ENTIRE face was swollen the next morning and my eyes looked like they had been through 10 boxing rounds. Swollen for 3 days! I am horribly allergic now, and can't use any benzoyl peroxide at all, anywhere. Will have to stick to AHA or salicylic acid.

Cons:

Dries skin
Can cause a bit of redness and chapping, but it helps

Pros:

Results after 60 days

Cons:

Dries your face

It works wonders for me because I have oily skin. Not only did my acne go away but my face isn't shiny all day long. If you have dry skin proactive is good but use a heavy moisturizer
August 14, 2012

Pros:

Can find it at many places
Considerably cheaper than proactive
See a change fast

Cons:

Can't miss a day
Smell

Some people say it drys out your skin but I think it depends on your skin type because it doesn't dry out my skin at all in fact it makes it softer! I saw a difference very fast but if you forget to wash your face I can also tell a difference. I think it is a great product and would recommend it to anyone!
August 11, 2012

Pros:

+ Everything you need in one package
+ Light smell
+ Matte finish moisturizer
+ Clears and heals!

Cons:

- A bit overdrying
- Too little product for the price (still worth it!)
- Won't cure root cause of acne

I've had moderate acne for most of my adult life, and I found this product about a year ago, I have tried other brands, but always come back to this one. These are small versions of larger products, I wouldn't recommend for daily usage but maybe two or three times a week, it might dry up your skin too much. Last moth a tried Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Trifix lotion with horrible results, I broke up like I hadn't in years, after a couple of weeks of that, I stopped and immediately returned to Clinique's system, I won't be making the same mistake again. Like suggested in acne.org, I sometimes use the wash as shaving cream and the lotion as aftershave, the moisturizer is good, but it's more like cream, so I still use another more potent moisturizer on top of it (Action by Anthony Logistics), this combo is working great. So in conclusion, A++ products, highly recommended!

Pros:

Cleared my skin FAST when NOTHING else worked!!!!

Cons:

Can be pricey if you buy a lot of the products...luckily for me...I didn't need the whole system...

This review is for the Proactiv face wash (renewing cleanser) and the refining mask ONLY. I'm 30 years old, and about 8 months ago my skin started breaking out like CRAZY. I suddently had tons of little white heads all over my forehead and cheeks and painful, large red pimples around my mouth and chin. I had gone on, and off, and on birth control, and I assumed that was what was causing my sudden break out. But after several months, of being back on the pill, it hadn't gotten better. I tried Dan's system...didn't work, I went to the dermotologist and he put me on Bactrim and Rentin A Micro...which made my acne SO much worse. I also tried several home remedies, none of which seemed to make much of a difference. Then, I remembered Proactiv. I had used it when I was in highschool with much success, and I remembered that in hs I mainly only used the face wash. Since my acne was so bad, I thought it might be worth it to buy the whole system. After about 2 days of using the whole system, I decided to try only using the face wash because my skin was becoming a bit irritated and I felt like the constant application of benzoyl peroxide was making things worse. Within just a few days of using just the face wash, I noticed a HUGE difference. About a month and a half later, my skin is COMPLETLY clear and I only have 2 flat red marks that are hardly visible. Here is my routine... I use make up removing wipes every evening (Target brand), then I use the Proactiv face wash. I use just a little bit and work it all over my face very gently. After I rinse, I use Neutrogena oil free moisturizer for sensitive skin (LOVE this stuff), and I use the Proactive refining mask for spot treatment. In the morning, I use just the face wash and the moisturizer. This routine (along with cutting back on all the chocolate I love to eat) has saved my skin!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
