Pros:

Cheap and effective. Enough said.

I'm a teenager and although my skin only suffered from mild acne, it was frustrating to flip through magazines to see all these pretty girls your age with perfect skin; I was determined to achieve that, too. As expected, the first time I used this, my skin went crazy for about a week. But of course, I never gave up, and let me tell you, there's never been anything that's worked on my skin up until this point (yes, I've tried ProActiv). I used this creme preceding St.Ives Apricot Scrub, and that was the ultimate combination for me. Two years later, I now only use the creme right before bed and it still works just as fine (and a plus- one tube lasts at least 4mths for me!) I've never had to use moisturizer either, so it varies from person to person. Although my skin is perfectly clear now, ceasing this routine will trigger my acne again, so I'm stuck with this for life, but I don't mind at all! Greatest investment, indeed! I juse ordered his cleanser, and I know it's just as great!

Proactiv does not work. After four weeks of following the twice per day regimen there was no improvement in my skin. Worst of all, I received more of the product by mail even though I did not order it. Their online ordering has a hidden club membership that automatically places your name on a list so that every few weeks you receive more of their product. They automatically bill you for the product you didn't order, plus shipping and handling. Artificial celebrity endorsements, no-results products, and mail order fraud. Proactiv is something to stay away from!

Pros:

Cleared my skin right away within the first week. My face was much smooter.

Cons:

After a year of using this system, my acne got a lot worse. My face became itchy, red, and irritated!

This product might work for some, but with my five year experience it's not worth it. I'm 30 years old and all of a sudden I have a face like a preteen!!!!!!!!

Pros:

Stopped my nodular-cystic acne from forming. I had over 20 large underground cysts on my forehead, and nothing seemed to work. Now, after almost a month consistently on proactiv, I have only two left - much better than before.

Cons:

dries out my skin, stings for a little while, skin is flaky and feels uncomfortable

It's not a miracle cure for everybody, but I recommend you try it out if nothing else is working, and stick it out for a few weeks to give it a chance to work. (Unless you are allergic to benozyl peroxide!)

Pros:

This product is the only product that has ever worked on my cystic acne including ProActive. I absolutely love it!!!

Cons:

None!

I absolutely love this product. I have had cystic acne my entire life and I have tried everything including ProActive. I have a very strong allergy to Benzoyl among other things and ProActive was too strong for my skin. I did a lot of research on the net and decided to try Carly's. With it I received a sample of the day and night lotion (which I was scepticle about considering most lotions are my enemy) and to my surprise I loved that too. I noticed my cystic acne began to be less frequent and when I did have a breakout it was less painful and did not stay for nearly as long as they previously did. If you have cystic acne I would suggest trying this and it's so affordable you don't really have anything to lose. Good luck!

Pros:

Clears Skin

Cons:

PLENTY If any other company sold a product that worked for me I'd switch in a heartbeat. I feel like I joined a cult because you have to sign up for a stupid "club" just to buy acne cream...what if every product made you do that..cereal? gas?

Customer service is wretched. I had too much (they send it automatically every once in a while) so I cancelled my acount and they sent it to me anyway- 3 times in a row. The third time, I said if they wanted it back, they'd have to send shipping-so then they sent me a collections notice. I swear, if it had hurt my credit, I'd sue for punitive damages.

Pros:

Nice packaging, good sized tube. Easy to apply. Works but you have to be hooked forever in order to maintain results.

Cons:

Cream dries into cracks and flakes, especially when used as spot treatment; Can be very drying to skin.

This product works temporarily; Clearasil designs their products to have a certain immunity level to the skin order to sustain users of their products -- in other words they make it so the body responses to it well at first and becomes addicted to it, and then when you stop using it regularly, it causes the skin to yearn for more, otherwise it'll breakout again -- until it gets the medication again. Good Luck Recommend: Oxy 10% BP Lotion Max Strength Oxy 5% BP Lotion Regular Strength (Sensitive skin)

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
