Pros:

got rid of most of my major pimples after just 2 uses, gave my skin a healthy glow

Cons:

the smell, toner smells most disgusting, toner stings sometimes, BP lotion can really dry out your skin, expensive, not enough supply, dried out my chin, and the skin around my eyes, does not get rid of dead skin

this has got to be the best acne product i've used ever. My acne started to flare up about 3 weeks ago, and clean&clear scarred my face, and made it extremely red. So i decided to try out proactiv, and i don't regret buying this product. Now i only have light acne, and my skin isn't red anymore! i can actually look people in the eye when i'm talking to them now. It does dry out our skin quite a bit, i even got sunburn on my chin. now theres two big dark patches on my chin. just use it once a day, since it is a pretty strong product

Pros:

The price.

Cons:

I hated the smell, and it made my skin break out.

I was disappointed with it. It is affordable, but it made my skin break out, and I could not stand the smell. The toner stung my face, and the refining mask did nothing. If you only have mild acne, buy a tube of toothpaste. It does the same job.For more severe acne, see a Dermatologist. This is not a quick fix by any means!

Pros:

It clears up zits (mild to moderate acne), and the lotion and cleanser smell good.

Cons:

The toner smells like rotten eggs, and I've got the sunburnt look. Also, you're on their stupid club list and that doesn't help.

I've got sensitive skin, and Proactiv gives me that sunburnt look. It clears up zits, but does nothing for blackheads. I hate looking like a tomato, especially when you compare my face to the rest of my fair-skinned body. Also, I thought you received the refining mask every month. You only get it one time (which sucks, because ordering separately from the Proactiv site is a hassle).

Pros:

This stuff WORKS! I have tried everything under the sun, with no luck. This works fast, and it's cheap. Never thought over the counter medication would work, but so glad I tried it. Please try, and see for yourself.

Cons:

None

Pros:

Proactiv is great. It definitly cleans the skin great, leaves skin feeling smooth, and most importantly, clears your acne.

Cons:

It is a liitle expensive. But, I'd rather spend the money on a product that works than on tons of other products that don't.

It's not instant magic. It does take a couple weeks or so to start seeing dramatic results. It is great at clearing and preventing acne when it is used consistently. For the people who say that Proactiv dries out the skin a lot, it even says on the bottle, if your skin starts to dry up a lot, you need to reduce the usage to once a day. And if you use a good, oil-free, non-comedeogenic moisturizer, dry skin is absolutely not a probalem. I would recommend this product to anyone because I think it really does work. You just need to follow the instructions and be consistent with it. Also, when first starting Proactiv, you need to start with only one use a day for 3-5 days so that your skin can get accustomed to it. That is why many people on here have red blemished that appear because they do not let their skin become accutomed to it. Like I said, you just have to follow the directions and you need to read the information packet that comes with it because it really helps.

Pros:

I've used this product for at least 10 or 11 years and I love it.

I use the program as directed and really see great results. It makes my skin look healthy, radiant and clear. I occassionally have a few breakouts, but it is due to hormonal changes, sweating too much at the gym or diet changes. Early on, I had to use the repairing lotion in the evening only, but that changed after awhile and I've experienced no problems with any of the products. I also use the refining mask about every 2 weeks and I do find it to really help in making my skin smoother than just using the 3 step program. I get my 3 step program on the auto ship and I change my program to be 2 toners and 1 cleanser or vice versa. I don't go through the repairing lotion as quickly as the other two. When I need the repairing lotion, I just go online and change the kit. So keep in mind, you can change the 3 step products to suit your needs. I also use the sheer transluscent pressed powder to carry in my purse and really like it too. I'm a firm believer in the proactiv system.

Pros:

Really clears skin! Tingly clean feeling. Does prevent acne!

Cons:

Kind of drying because it does have 10% benzoyl peroxide, so use a moisturizer or lotion after washing.

I really love this product! I tried everything. Proactiv, Nuetrogena products, Acne soaps... This is the only thing that has worked for me on a consistent basis. And I know if you used proactiv like me and it dried the heck out of your skin because of the massive amount of benzoyl peroxide, don't be afraid of this product because it has 10% (proactiv has 2.5%) But, you have to remember, with proactiv you are actually leaving the benzoyl peroxide on your face, and it soaks in. With this clean and clear you wash it off, so even though it sounds like a high percentage it doesn't dry my face out hardly at all compared to proactiv.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
