Pros:

Works well, not so abrasive to skin, nice and gentle.

Cons:

Price, but worth it = )

I have been using Clinique for 2 years now. I used to use Proactive, Murad and was on Minocyclene for a while but didn't get results. I use The Cleansing Bar in the mornings and The Foam Cleanser at Night. I then use the Clarifying Lotion (day and night) and apply the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (Mornings) and at night I apply sparingly the Clearing Moisturizer (Benzoyl Peroxide), as it does dry my skin just a tad. I also use the concealer when I do have a few that need to be consealed or use the spot healing gel. I also use the Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed powder to help for the more than a few breakouts to help conceal for all over coverage than applying more than needed consealer or spot healing gel. Yes, as a guy I will wear makeup to hide it, honestly because it's so light my friends don't even know I am wearing it. I also use 2 days a week the Oil-Control Cleansing Mask.

Pros:

inexpensive, quick shipping
It Works!
free samples

Cons:

bleaches towels

I found Carley's scrub by accident on the web after trying at least 20 different products and devices over about 15 yrs and worsening cystic acne. It did take a couple of weeks for it to completely get rid of my cysts, but it did get rid of them! Nothing else had! It was not harsh at all on my skin and very easy to use. It made my pores smaller and my skin clear and happy. When I ran out (the bottle lasted me about a year), I am ashamed to say that I had gotten so used to nice skin that I had forgotten how I got it. I bought a scrub that was not Carley's and my cysts came back. It actually took me a couple of months to figure out what happened. And I promptly ordered more Carley's. After the first use, my skin came back and the cysts receded. The cysts I had stayed under the skin and did not erupt using Carley's. It has now been 2 weeks since I started back on Carley's and I only have I cyst left and I hardly know it is there. I ordered the day moisturizer and the mask, too. Love them both. The Midnight moisturizer seems to make my skin tight, but skin feels good so I will continue. I will not forget again how I got my clear and smooth skin. Carley's has a costumer for life in me!!

Pros:

cleanser is rich and creamy; you can feel it penetrating your pores
toner is soothing and helps balance your skin and nourish it
lotion completely stops excess facial oil and balances skin for 24 hours
system uses benzoyl peroxide in cleaner and lotion
cleanser has mild exfoliating properties

Cons:

system does not effectively battle blackheads - they dry up but still require manual removal
moisturizer needs to be used with system to prevent skin irritation, dryness, and peeling which is not included with the system as is
lotion needs to be bigger size - it takes just as much lotion in one treatment as it does cleanser, but the bottle of cleanser is twice as big as the lotion bottle
weekly exfoliation is still required to help get rid of the dead skin cells from the benzoyl peroxid

This is a great system and it really works if you use a moisturizer and sunscreen with the system and exfoliate on a regular basis. The lotion is genius - it keeps my skin balanced all day long so it's never oily or dry but just right, and I live in FL where it's almost always hot and humid.

Pros:

It keeps your skin clear

Cons:

can potentially dry out skin
takes a couple weeks to work

I was on this site before I tried proactive and got scared because of the comments stating it is horrible and it dries out skin. The fact is that you have to stick with it and do exactly what is described. I had extremely sensitive skin and I have not had dry skin with proactive. The key is moisturizing. If you think you have moisturized enough, put more on. I think the routine which helped me the most was to start slow. For the first week I used it every other day. The second week I used it once a day and the third week I used it everyday. I have had no problems with dry skin. The other thing you have to remember is that skin has its own cycle. It has a cycle of four to eight weeks (dependent on the individual) so it probably will take that long to see results. I hope this helps!

Pros:

worked right away. Easy to apply. Fragrance free.

Cons:

skin irritated initially, but got used to it after a week.

My face is fine, rarely get pimples. But my back would get a lot. I searched all over the web for a solution to this. After different product combination, i came down to using neutregena body was, Dan's BP and AHA cream. And honestly, the results could not have been better. Its been two weeks, and not a single pimple has formed on my back. The AHA cream seems to be speeding up the healing of the marks from acne (not scarring, i dont get those kind of pimples). I figure at this rate, within a few more months my back will look great. I hope this product never discontinues, it has given me a reason to go the beach this summer without my shirt.

Pros:

Exfoliates Nicely. Worked nicely for about 3 days.

Cons:

Keep in mind I follwed the instructions to a tee.. It dries my face out until it feels like sandpaper, then when I use the toner it burns for hours. I've had to stop using the repairng lotion all together, it burns even worse than the toner and dries my skin out even more. They sent me a bottle of Green Tea moisturizer which is nice stuff, but the itty bitty tube is all but gone. All in all it realy hasn't helped the acne - I have softer skin with just as many pimples.

It's not worth it.

Cons:

Moisturizer burns horribly, my breakouts are worse, and my skin feels like sandpaper.

I have sensitive, oily skin and have been using this product for about a month now. I've learned to avoid using the moisturizer on my cheeks because the burn stings far too much. It's a worse burn than any other product. When I was still using the moisturizer, I was appalled at how my skin dried up. My skin felt like sandpaper. My blemishes haven't reduced at all. I'd say from all the positive reviews, maybe try it- but it didn't work at all for me.

Pros:

Seems to be the perfect amount of BP, as the effect is not too drying. It works to decrease redness over a short-term period of time (I've noticed a reduction in redness within 15 minutes) while also reducing acne size in general (4+ hours). It has helped to keep my acne in check while using other products as "acne killers."

Cons:

It is a bit expensive, but it lasts pretty long if used properly. My mom, my sister and I go through around a bottle a month, applying in the morning and the evening. Calculates to around $0.30 per day, which is more than fair for what it does.
Also, during the summer, bleaching can occur if out in the sun too much. This was pretty funny for me, because I was extremely tan all the time from Tennis and Swimming, but I always managed to have some patches of white. Better than patches of red! :)

Without this, I would probably be up a creek. A lot of people complain about the cost of Proactiv versus its ineffectiveness, but this is indubitably the best part of the entire system, especially if rubbed in properly. When used in conjunction with a mild cleanser facewash, the benefits are great. Just be sure to be consistent with this product, as it basically sterilizes your face.

Pros:

-feels awesome
-extra lotion at night help tremendously
-it works..for me at least
-gets mailed right to you
-face mask is awesome

Cons:

-expensive
-if you don't use enough lotion your skin is super dry...thats why everyone on here is saying their skin is dry. USE MORE LOTION
-you run out of the toner before everything else

in my case..it took about 3 months to see results. my skin has been pretty bad since i was 14 and i'm now 20 and i'm still breaking out. however i think proactiv has actually worked for me. if i use it every night, i will wake up in the morning with no breakouts. but as we all know that is not reality..sometimes you can't wash your face every night..so my skin freaks out when its not washed. id recommend it.

Pros:

I am taking a break from it. Read cons for reasons

Cons:

It seemed to be working the first week, my face did not get irritated or dry, however the more i used it, my face became red (irritated), and dry as well. and it with the continued use (about 2 week) it started to burn when i used the lotion/toner.

i think im going to wait another few days until the redness goes away, and see what happens then. if it doesnt dry out or get irritated again, ill stick with it to see if it works

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
