Pros:

It worked for me, cleared my skin in about 2 months (nothing I tried before worked..). My acne came back though about 3 mo after I stopped using it. Now i'm back on it!

Cons:

I don't have sensitive skin, and I can still feel that it is a little hard on skin. Be careful using it on the face. It's ok on the back. A little on the expensive side.

Doesn't work for everybody, but try it if you don't have sensitive skin.

Pros:

It cleared up my blemishes fast, but it stopped working.

Cons:

Using it for so long, it got really expensive.

I was using Proactive for almsot a year, and it was doing okay. Nothing to rave about really. But one day, it just stopped working, and my face would get extremely red and itchy. I didn't like it at all. I'm not sure what happened, but I wouldn't reccomend this product to anyone with sensative skin like me.

Pros:

It works and it's inexpensive.

Cons:

A little time consuming.

I am amazed and thrilled. I have had moderate acne since I was 12 and am now 45. After 3 months of using the gel my face is completely clear for the first time since puberty. I also use the Wal-Mart brand of alpha hydroxy lotion (labeled Face Lotion.) I pat it around my eyes before I apply the BP gel, then use on the rest of my face as directed by the Regimen. My skin is dewy and glowing. I cannot express the depth of my gratitude. Thanks Dan!

Pros:

well,
i have been using proactiv for about 2 months now, & the little acne bumps vanished but the bigger blemishes took a while to go away. In my opinon proactive is a pretty good product but it dosent wook with everyones skin.

Cons:

Its on the pricey side

Proactive eather works or it dosent. Stop using it if your skin isnt getting beter, dont even waste your money.

Pros:

fades pimples, clears skin

Cons:

dries face but only a LITTLE bit, burning. i also warn everyone DONT PUT THIS NEAR YOUR EYES because if you apply it anywhere near them, it burns a LOT. especially if you are wearing eyeliner or mascara, it can be very painful. thats about all

i have moderate acne. i use this along with a mild retinoid and also im on doxy. this works VERY well it has made a lot of difference since i started using it. i use it all over in the morning and sometimes as a spot treatment during the day.

Pros:

NONE!!

Cons:

My acne stayed the same from the day i started using it untill the last use. It did not help at all it dried my skin out! DOES NOT WORK!!

The product does not work! When i sent it back they still sent me another package even after i marked that i did not like the results of the product. You think they would have picked up on it that obviousally i did not want it but yet they still sent me another box and charged it to my credit card. On top of that both times they charged me shipping and handeling and did not refund that money. It is a big rip off and they are very rude over the phone!! I highly do not recomment this product to anyone!!! Just go to the doctor and get something!

Pros:

None

Cons:

It made my breakouts ten times worse. It gave me horrible acne on my cheeks where I had never broken out before. I still continue to even after I stopped using it. It is way too harsh for even normal skin types.

Don't waste your money.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
