Pros:

Helped clear up breakouts.

Cons:

Really dried out my skin, and is pretty rouch on it so I think it slows the fading of my red marks.

Just make sure to put on some kind of moisturizer after using this. I have oily skin, and immediately after using this product my skin gets that tight, stripped of oil feeling. Overall, though, it did help clear up my skin (I used this with minocyclin and tretinoin, too)

Pros:

It really works. Better than proactive (only contain 2.5% benzoyl peroxide).. I am using 5%. I am also using Loreal as my toner

Cons:

Dryness of skin, but can be solved using a moisturizer (i'm using Olay)...

If you are hopeless.. then this is the best product for you...

Pros:

IT HAS A NICE TEXTURE KIND OF FOAMY, ITS EASY WET LATEHR RINSE. AND IT'S PRETTY GOOD AT DELIVERING CONSISTANT RESULTS

Cons:

IT BLEACHES, SO IF YOUR TAN PREPARE TO LIGHTEN UP A TAD. ALSO IF YOU DON'T WASH OFF COMPLETELY IT WILL BLEACH YOUR PILLOW AND OR TOWEL

IT'S ONE OF THE BEST PRODUCTS OVER THE COUNTER. HOWEVER IF IT HAS A BLEACHING AFFECT THEN I AM A LITTLE HESITANT TO PUT ON MY SKIN REPED.

Pros:

Cleared up some stubborn bumps I've had for years, does what it says it will do. Skin was very smooth.

Cons:

First day or two my skin was red, had to get used to the product but then it was alright

I've had acne since I was 6 years old! Accutane helped get it under control in high school, and now I just have some red areas/bumps/occassional nasty cystic pimple. Proactiv helped all that!

if you have bad acne its best to see a dermatologist. nothing is going to be a cure.

Pros:

helped my acne

Cons:

overdrying

At first I used all three Proactiv products twice a day like the instructions tell you to do, but my face became VERY dry! I was using a ton of moisturizer and my face was still dry. I decided not to give up and instead only use the cleanser twice a day and the other two products I only use every once in a while or when I have a break-out. My acne is not completely gone, but the Proactiv definitely helps and by using the products less my face is not so dry. My advice is to give it a try and if it is too drying or irritating to your skin, then just use it less and see what happens. Though my acne is not completely gone, I am still happy with Proactiv because it keeps me from breaking out so often and my skin is clearer and smoother.

Pros:

It really does work

Cons:

It takes a long time to show results...you have to stick to the regimen

I purchased this for my 11yo daughter who has had acne for about one year. I have seen results since she has been using it, but when she misses a day or two it seems the acne looks worse or comes right back. I belive its a good product when followed to the hilt.

Pros:

clears up acne really well but not all of it

Cons:

If you skip a day by accident you will BREAK OUT A LOT!! Once you start you will never be able to STOP.

DON'T BUY IT!!! Once you stop using the product your face breaks out worse than EVER. PLEASE DON'T BUY it unless you are ready to spend the time and money to use it everyday for the rest of your life.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
