Product used: The Regimen

Pros:

almost clear skin

Cons:

- uneven skin tone
- dry and not smooth skin
- time consuming
- avoid sun exposure as much as you can
- you're using it forever

This is a trade off. You have clear skin BUT it is going to very very dry and darker and so flaky. This skin is good to look, not to touch. I've been using it for nearly 2 months. It works for anyone who wants to cure acne. If you cannot stand the dryness and flakiness or a darker skin tone. This is not for you.

Pros:

Really does clear your skin
Not as hard as a concept to grasp, makes sense
Reasonably priced for the quantity and quality

Cons:

Initially makes your skin very dry
Sort of a long process to do if you're doing it correctly and thoroughly

The Regimen is, in my opinion, the best acne system out there. I tried drugstore products. I tried proactive. I tried X-Out. I tried Retin-A and antibiotics and birthcontrol. The Regimen works and even at the beginning when my skin was super dry because of introducing the large amounts of benzoyl peroxide, i could still tell a difference as far as my acne went. I've never had horrible acne, but bad enough for me to not feel confident enough to want to go out with a big group of friends or look people directly into the eyes. Now, I've been using The Regimen for a little over two months, and I've never been happier with my skin. It's clear. It's rough at first because if you're following the Regimen's instructions like you should be, your skin will dry up. DEFINITELY BUY THE JOJOBA OIL AND THE AHA+. They definitely help with the flakiness. Push through the first few weeks and you'll be very satisfied with the results. 100% recommend this product.

Pros:

-helps acne!!:)

Cons:

-can cause dryness and flakes

I really love this product. So far I have been using it for 2 weeks. My skin was flakey for a couple days the first week but once I started using the jojoba oil, It went away. So if you know you have sensitive skin I would recommend using the oil in the moisturizer twice a day. My problem is hormonal and stress related acne and I've been having a really difficult time getting rid of it until this product. I know its only been two weeks but I can already tell a difference. I never write reviews for products but I've been so impressed with this one, I decided to make an exception. I will more than likely do another a review after a few months. BUT bottom line I would recommend this product. P.S. I've read some reviews that say the jojoba oil and moisturizer leave a yellow tint on the skin. I use a good amount of both twice a day and I have not noticed this.

Pros:

- clears up skin after diligent use
- acne heals quicker
- overall better complexion

Cons:

- irritates skin/breakout when starting

I've always had unrelanting acne since I was in middle school, and not until I was in college did my skin cleared up a great deal with break outs here and there. To help cover my acne scarring and poor complexion I decided to try out a mousse foundation... and it all went downhill quickly. My face started to break out majorly, even when I stopped using the mousse. It was the worst it had ever been! I then looked into treatments and ended up choosing this one. I took the plundge and bought the Regiment Kit online after using some other products per the regiment instructions... and I'm so happy I did! Like everyone else says the BP does irritate your face for a while and even make your acne worse, but it gets so much better afterwards! I tried it for a few months and didn't have much success, and it wasn't until I went back to using it DILIGENTLY every day that I saw results. My pimples have almost completely disappeared with the occasional one showing up here or there. I do still have acne bumps, which is why I can't give it the full 5 rating, but they too are improving. The one change I did make is using a scrub once a day with scrubbing beads. The reason is because a friend of mine informed me that mineral-based makeup, which is what I use, must be scrubbed off otherwise it will build up and clog pores. Adding this did wonders to help prevent breakouts, so if you're a girl who uses BareMinerals, Pur, or any other mineral-based makeup I would look into using a scrubber. Overall completely happy with this kit, and will recommend it to anyone with acne!

Pros:

works if used correctly, long term solution, makes skin feel great and clean, no acne!

Cons:

works better if used with purified water (at least for my skin), MUST follow directions or the product doesn't work like it should

this product is amazing first of all. I will never go back to using the array of bad products for my face - I have used them all and nothing compares to this product. The customer service is amazing and they will answer all emails fast and effectively. It took me about a month of using it to realize that I was not doing an effective job.. (follow directions precisely!) Once I changed what I was doing AND started using purified water my face has taken a drastic turn for the better! While it's not 100% clear after 3 months it is on its way (I was using bad products for over 5 years so I understand it takes time to undo the damage I did). Love all their moisturizers and foundation too. Highly recommend to all - I have struggled for years trying to find a long term solution for my acne and this is it!

Pros:

Inexpensive
Time saver

Cons:

Dries skin- just apply a moisturizer

I have been struggling with acne & this product saved my skin. I used to follow the acne.org regimen but would still uncontrolable acne a few months in a year & the benzoyl peroxide would ruin my clothes. This is the only product that I've used that provided me with great results. Its cost effective & not time consuming. I would still get a pimple once in a while but not as bad as before.

Pros:

its gel based
can easily spread over your face before it dries

Cons:

itchy at times. but skin gets used to it
small container. the picture of it on the right is about 10 cm

i have been using 10% benzoyl peroxide face cream. and the Galderma gel based benzoyl peroxide was much lighter on my skin. i have just started using it, so i will post another review, since no one else has. its the only product i could get my hands on here in south africa dischem stores. otherwise, there was a 10% benzoyl peroxide oxy cream. and that smelled really bad was about R60 (zar)

Pros:

Price
Quick drying
Works
Not too harsh on skin

Cons:

Only that its discontinued and won't be back for a while

I work in a pharmacy and kept seeing this on a script so thought, it's only £3.40, why not try it. I have tried quinoderm, retin a, dalacin, zineryt and nothing has worked. This product is amazing. It helped clear up the red angry acne on my face. It's made me more confident to go out without make up on too. I absolutely love it and am now hunting around small pharmacies for any reserve stock. I can't say anything else but I love it.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
