Pros:

-Cleared most of my acne after a while
-Made my skin look and feel better in general
- Not much drying at all

Cons:

-First month acne actually got worse
-Took a long time to clear up most of my acne (4 months or so)
- Can burn a bit
- Will discolor towels

I hear a lot of people rip on Proactiv for being overpriced or not working. I also hear people say it actually may make acne worse. This is partially true- my acne got worse for the first month or so. Then it soon started to clear up pretty well. You also have to really keep up with it. I found that if I missed just one or two applications I'd break out within a few days. If you can handle the slightly high cost and make sure to keep up with it, it works. At least it worked well for me. I also had no issues with flaking or drying- my skin is actually smoother and looks overall much better (even my girlfriend has noticed this). I imagine it just comes down to how your skin reacts, as we all have different skin. It worked well for me and I will keep up with it as long as I can afford it. Don't be discouraged by all the whining and negative reviews. Give it a try for a few months and it just might work!

Pros:

reduces pimple size

Cons:

severe redness and irritation
pimples always come back by the end of the day
does not help with scars or spots
feels oily
enlarges pores

I have been using Proactiv on and off for 5 years. I am fifteen. At the moment, I have been consistently using it for the past 9 months. First off, my skin is far too sensitive for this product. I can only use it at night because of the severe rash-like redness it causes my skin, and I would not go into public like that. In the morning, however, my pimple size is reduced, but my pore size is huge and I feel very oily. I also have scars from past acne damage, but Proactiv does not help me with that, either. I feel like my acne should be getting better by now, but it stays pretty much the same, and I had only light to moderate acne to begin with. The reason I contiue using Proactiv is because I hear it's the best thing out there, but I'm not really getting those results. Is there no hope for my skin?

Pros:

Obviously helped my face after only one washing in the evening.

Cons:

Stiffness, a texture to skin.

Day 1: This is my first day on it and I'm seeing improvement, as much as expected. I would rate my acne as very light, but I have many tiny invisible pimples covering my nose, so I will put "light". I have pretty good skin and I'm hoping this will lead me to have it clear and wonderful. It has a mild wash and a benzoyl peroxide cream, and a lotion, so it fits Dan's Regimen nicely. So far it's a 5 for me.

Pros:

WORKS FAST!! If you have a bad pimple or pimples, just rub some zapzyt on and it will shrink overnight and it will be gone within a few days!

Cons:

it will dry out your skin so be sure to moisturize. Not really sure thats a con though, because i have really oily skin lol

ZAPZYT WORKS!! I use it whenever i have a random pimple or a sudden outbreak and it will be gone within days. I have used MILLIONS of acne creams, but this is the only one that works, and FAST.

Pros:

good, decent products

Cons:

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND POLICIES EVER!

decent products, but BEWARE! when u sign up online, theres a catch.. u agree to automatic shipments and they take automatic payments from your bank account without authorization or notice. This cracks me up, because with my first and only shipment (i returned the next shipment), they sent along a letter that said "We've changed and improved! No more automatic shipments! From now on, you get the products you need WHEN you need them". And yet here they sent me product i didnt need and charged me anyway. Ok so i returned it, after I saw that they charged me, which by the way, caused my account to be overdrafted causing further charges. So i returned it, thinking ok, ill get my money back "in 4-6 weeks" like the customer service said. thats all they could say. but yet, today, one month AFTER i returned my shipment, my account is being charged AGAIN. I call customer service, and same thing: "4-6 weeks". Im asking them did they receive my return? Once again, they dont know, all they can tell me is "4-6 weeks". Every single time, Ive called customer service, they seem so unintelligent, and interrupt me everytime i try to talk with the "4-6 week" business. no more information other than that... that is ridiculous! all i wanted was to TRY the product, and here I am, two months later, still having a headache because of them. I DO NOT recommend buying from them, unless you find the kiosk at the local mall.

Pros:

Reduced redness
"Clean" feeling

Cons:

Dried skin out to the point of flaking
Did not cure acne
Stung
Severely irritating
Caused me to break out in hives

Now I'm not sure if I had an allergic reaction or not, but from day 1 of starting MaxClarity my acne on my jawline became extremely itchy and irritated, and only made the acne worse. After a while I just gave up completely on the product because of the irritation. I only used it once a day every other day.

Pros:

- Small spot treatment gel lasts a lot longer than expected, using twice a day really helped decrease spot size & redness.

- Cleanser leaves you feeling refreshed.

- Only a thin layer of moisturiser needed

Cons:

- Quite pricey, about £13 which I think is roughly $20.

- Didn't help red marks or scars (mostly what I'm dealing with now)

- Too much moisturiser left skin oily.

Definitely give it a go, not sure whether it's worth that price though.

Pros:

fairly inexpensive, started working almost right away, leaves skin smooth & less oily

Cons:

cleanser is a little harsh at first

I have only been using Proactiv for about 2 weeks and I have seen a drastic improvement in not only my acne but the overall condition of my skin. It has become more smooth, supple, and youthful looking, and has also become far less oily, which has always been a problem for me. I have used several other products and nothing has worked like Proactiv. I love it!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
