Pros:

- helps prevent and heal acne

Cons:

- is irritating to sensitive skin
- is drying

I have dry/normal flaky skin. My skin is not sensitive. I started using this because 2.5% wasn't strong enough to prevent acne for me (I had been using it for years, maybe my skin got used to it?). This really works for me, but I would not recommend this to friends with sensitive skin. I would also recommend you try 2.5% FIRST before this stuff because 10% is a lot stronger. This stuff has gotten my acne from moderate to VERY light!! I am happy =)

Pros:

Clears up active pimples quickly
Prevents new pimples from forming
Dries clear
No fragrance

Cons:

Very drying
Leave a red spot after the pimple is gone
Have to apply a lot of product for it work well
Bleaches fabrics

The bottom line is that this stuff worked for me. I had moderate acne and I would constantly have at least one deep cystic pimple along with other whiteheads at any given time. I mostly broke out around my chin and cheeks. When I started using Dan's BP, I was at my worst. I had a few months of constantly having at least 5 cystic pimple and a bunch of whiteheads. Dan's BP was great at drying up and getting rid of the whiteheads. It didn't clear up the deep cysts any faster than normal but it definitely prevented new ones from forming. After using the product for just a month, my skin is so much clearer. I have no more cystic acne and I just have a few whiteheads that pop up. The BP is extremely drying which can be a little irritating and uncomfortable (but definitely preferred over acne). One of my biggest complaints is the red marks that seem to linger after a pimple is gone. And in general, the BP seems to give a reddish tint to my face, along with the darker red marks and scaring from the pimples. Overall, I this product is definitely worth trying and sticking to for some time. I have had a significant improvement and I hope to get completely clear one day soon. The side effects I experienced are no where near as bad as the acne I used to have. I am going to try Dan's AHA+ to help with the red marks and scaring.

Pros:

Proactiv definitely clears up my skin! It doesn't burn, leave rashes or break me out. It gives me a great clean and soft feeling. After just one use, my skin began to clear up.

For just $20, I got a 2 oz bottle of facial scrub (step 1), a toner (step 2) and a moisturizer (step 3), plus a free sample of their face mask and a green tea moisturizer! Totally worth every cent.

Pros:

Fresh feeling
Popular

Cons:

Doesn't work
Expensive
Celebrities that speak for the company don't have acne usually
Hives
Flaking
Redness
Worsens acne

Doesn't work for many people and it is expensive. Worked for the first 2 weeks then caused itching, peeling, bad post acne marks, severe breakouts, redness, and dry skin. Ive used it twice in my life: once when I was 13r, once when I was 16. Failed both times

Pros:

Made me go all natural.

Cons:

Only worked for first 2 months
Way too expensive for results
after about 2-3 months the repairing lotion made my skin itch and burn

I used proactiv when i was in 7th grade and it worked wonders and young dumb me stopped using it until i tried it again at age 20. the first few months were great but up until a yeAr later my acne was still there and i kept getting more and more breakouts. Im kinda glad i tried it tho bc it made my try a natural skin care system which i have seen massive results. I have really oily/greasy, sensitive skin and proactiv was not a match for me.

Pros:

only use once a day
no funny smell
great value
works quickly

Cons:

dries your face out a little
can't buy it in a larger tube

I've used ProActiv, Nature's Cure, Sea Breeze, even prescription medicines like Benzaclin and nothing worked. I started using this and saw results within days. I only use it once a day and if my skin gets too dry, I moisturize with lotion, but it's perfect. My acne has gone away mostly and if I do get any pimples (usually around that time of the month) they are much smaller and fewer. NO CYSTIC ACNE anymore! I have spent tons of money on various products and am mad that I wasted it when I could've just spent five bucks on this. As a side note, Zapzyt also makes a facial scrub. I've trued the scrub on its own and with this product and it never seemed to make a difference, although it does exfoliate a little and smells kind of nice. One more note: don't put this on before bed unless you're wearing a tanktop and have an old towel over your pillow. It bleaches whatever it touches.

Pros:

It reduced my pimples in one night

Cons:

peeled my skin

This medication was good for a week but then i started to notice something dark where my pimples were. I thought it was dirt but then i realized it was my own skin. I saw the layer of my new skin very clearly. I play soccer and i get pretty tan easily. After my skin peeled off, I could see the lighter shade. Everyone I knew said something about my face. "Why is your face discolored?". I heard it for a long time. I have sensitive oily skin. If you have the same kind of skin, then look for some other medication. If your skin is not sensitive, try it BUT ONLY USE IT ONCE A DAY. If you don't, i promise it will not be good for your skin.

Pros:

This product has completely cleared up my acne. My skin is now clear and soft. I am so happy with this product that I am recommending it to everyone I know. Thank you so much for making it!!!

Cons:

Can cause dryness if you don't moisturize enough. Also, you really have to use it every day.

It works. I have never had a product clear up my skin so well. It is a great feeling knowing that I will wake up in the morning with great skin.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Made acne worse
Dried my skin
Irritated my skin
Made skin red, itchy
Expensive

When it comes down to it, this product just didn't work for me. The only thing that ever worked was the Refining Mask, which of course, they send you the smallest bottle of and is the most expensive item. The Toner and Cleanser only ever made my skin feel dry, not CLEAN. It really just made my acne worse. I use an over the counter product from Clean and Clear today, and it works great. It's ONE bottle of acne medication, not a complicated 3 step system, and it works much better. I've heard customer service was horrible from some other reviews, and my mother would agree. The bottom line is that I have found better results from a product I bought at a CVS Pharmacy. It was much less expensive than Proactiv and it simply worked much better. Of course, not everything is going to work for everybody, but Proactiv made my acne worse...how can that be? It irritates me that the commercials make the product seem so great when using it was a terrible experience for me. I do not recommend this product at all, you can find much more effective products, for way less money, at a Walgreen's or Walmart or CVS. Don't waste your money or time.

Pros:

Works great! I have tried many products and this one (when used with "the regimen") is most effective. Gel formula goes on smooth.

Cons:

I recommend easing into use. Can dry out skin at first.

Get this now and use with "the regimen." Ease into use to prevent dryness. Be patient, use regularly, and your skin will become and stay clear!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
