Pros:

Works quickly while removing acne and clearing away blackheads and scarring

Cons:

The smell is terrible! It's like playdoh and sulfer. Leaves the skin looking oily or leaves it very dry

Proactive is a great product, but the smell makes it hard to use it every day. The sulfer smell is in the toner, and can make your eyes water like crazy. It does shrink and remove acne, but if you have a very sore acne spot, the pain won't disappear as fast as the apperance of the acne. I like the mask though, that's excellent.

Pros:

Clears skin, smells good, DESTROYS blackheads lol

Cons:

Burns if used while sunburned (found this out the hard way) dries skin if not used with moisturizer, took a while for it to work, at least with me

This isn't a miracle, but it's the only thing my skin has ever even reacted to (positively.) I used it for a couple months, didn't think it was working, so I stopped using it. Broke out horribly, started using it again, and now I'm clearing up. Right now I have about five pimples (huuuugee improvement over what my face used to look like) and they're clearing up, too. As I said, if you don't use moisturizer you're asking for a world of pain, including dry, flaky, hurting skin. But, use a moisturizer and you're fine. And they're serious when they say use sunscreen. Get sunburned and pray for mercy.

Pros:

My skin looks much better, even my blackheads are gone now! Fragrance is not bad. Skin feels softer and smoother than it ever has!

Cons:

All of my pillowcases are white now!

Proactiv has worked great for me and I will continue to use this product. I have always been embarrassed about my skin and now I don't even have to wear makeup!

Pros:

Goes on smooth and clear, with no residue. Once your skin adjusts to it, it actually feels quite nice putting it on. Oxygenates the skin to prevent new pimples from forming, and heals up existing pimples faster.

Cons:

Can be drying in the beginning. If you have sensitive skin, you should start out with a once a day application, and then bump it up to twice a day once your skin adjusts.

Nothing I have ever used to treat my acne has worked so well. The only other thing that I ever used that got me completely clear was Retin-a, which decided to stop working for me a few months ago. I was breaking out like I wasn't even treating my acne at all, and the stuff was far too expensive to keep buying if it wasn't going to do the same job it did before. I started using this stuff, and after a little over a week, my skin is completely clear and smooth. All I have left are my scars, but I'm okay with that. I'm still getting used to be able to wash my face without pain, and I'm actually comfortable not wearing any foundation! Truly a wonderful product. The key is to just remember to be patient, as the adjustment period of your skin and how fast it clears up is different for each person.

Pros:

Extremely gentle. Worked on my hormonal chin acne like nothing else. I had burned red blotchy skin and peeling on top of the breakouts from Salicylic Acid treatments I'd tried. This benzoyl peroxide worked excellent for me.

Cons:

None.

My Advice: You have to figure out if your skin is more tolerant of Salicylic Acid or benzoyl peroxide. If you have a bad reaction to this BP cleanser try an SA face cleanser and if you don't tolerate SA try this. You have to try new products alone or it is virtually impossible to figure out what is working for you and what might be causing irritation. Also once my face cleared up I alternate with a non acne face wash to ensure I never have to worry about overly drying my skin. I think some people might be overdoing it. My Experience: I'm 27 yr old female and I had a ton of breakouts due to hormones on my chin and around my mouth. I tried several products including homeopathic and home remedies. It turns out the when I used salicylic acid on my skin it burned and caused itchy peeling red blotches on my skin. This is extremely gentle compared to salicylic acid washes. Cleared my skin and redness I got major complements after using this on how my skin is super clear.

Pros:

You see results immediatly. It is easy and has a big cloth so you can use it anywhere. The foam last a long time so if you need to use it all over your body you can.

Cons:

Can be expensive w/o insurance.

I've had acne on my back since 5th grade. Nothing has gotten rid of it since Triaz. I love this foaming cleanser and its worth every penny for me. Now i can wear tank tops, or a swim suit w/o being embarressed about my acne. I feel so empowered and happy now that ive got my good skin back.

My face got even worse as I used this product as directed. The sales people are completely incompetent as well.

I use the Neutrogena Wave right now and that has worked so far :)

Pros:

proactive offered a "extra strength kit" that works fine. agents on the phone know what there doing (good customer service), you can order anything you want in there catalog for ur next shipment and the price will stay the same as long as its 3 thing

Cons:

skin did become emune to reg formula. i guess kits are sent out every in 2mnth supplys at 39.90 + 5.99 s&h but if you divide that in half thats still 19.95 a mnth + S&H i just wish they told me they we going to do that.

worked for the first six months, my skin kinda became emune to it. was very angry called proactive they refunded the money for the last kit and then sent me a free extra strength kit which worked fine, now that's what i use.

Pros:

only the third day and noticed a HUGE improvement already!

Cons:

makes skin a little dry. Fixable with lotion.

My Brother used proactive when he was about 15 (21 now) and he cleared up almost over night. I used proactive when i was 12 (14 now) and it made my face DISGUSTING. I used clean and clear, but it dried my face out and left my face colorless. Used clinique, and that worked, but after a month, it stopped. and anyway, it wasnt worth the $50 price. After thinking i ran out of options, a girl in my gym class recommended this to me. Its my third day, and i cant believe the difference! All my little colorless bumps are gone, and ive got about 3 pimples on my face that are rapidly clearing up. This is AMAZING!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
