ok so i got proactiv because the commercial is pretty convincing, all the actors/actresses so i got it. I regret it so much! when i first used it, it worked ok not fanstastic just ok, then i got tired of doing a three step system so i switched to neutrogena. then that broke me out so i switched back to proactiv and it gave me the worst skin of my life! i have such bad break outs now it sucks and its scarring my face:( seriously please take my advice and if your thinking of getting this... DONT. and both my sisters used it and it didnt work for them either. just dont waste your money and time. id rate this a 0 if that was possible.

Pros:

Works at first
Easy to use

Cons:

Harshly dries out skin
Leaves burning redness (like a chemical burn)
Makes acne worse after awhile
Caused me tons of razor bumps after a shave
Expensive
Shady company scamming people
Takes an extra month between shipments

I started proactiv after a few recommendations and while it works at first, i started to develop clusters of deep cystic acne on my face and neck. Also, after every shave i would have clusters of irritated hair follicles that would raise up. Dont even think about stopping it if you start it because your acne gets severely worse even one day without using it (along with a rash that resembles acne). The products are extremely expensive and it seems the regular products cause more problems for other products of theirs to conveniently fix (hmmmm). Skin gets dry and flaky (magically solved by their green tea moisturizer), cysts develop (solved by refining mask), razor bumps (they recommend yet another product), skin gets more oily during the middle of the day (they have another product for that too). Its definitely a good elaborate scam that keeps getting you with more and more money each month. Bottom line, its horrible.

Pros:

None.

Cons:

The Chemicals burned my skin, it made my acne worse- I had moderate acne to begin with, but Proactive made my acne turn into cystic acne- large, deep, painful acne that took FOREVER to go away. Then when I cancelled they continued to charge me after I sent their box back, stating they had a certain day return policy and I sent it too late, then they kept charging me. I had to sic my enraged husband on their terrible customer service.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

Pros:

Great Product, Really Works, Natural, Great Customer Service, Samples

Cons:

Have to Buy Online, Takes a While to Work

Carly's is a great product. Very effective, though it takes a while to work. I have used it for several years, and have gone from having moderate acne to having clear, beautiful skin. I have read a bunch of negative reviews accusing anyone that says they have had good results of faking the review. It's really insulting to be accused of lying cause you have good results. Well, this is a real review and Clear & Smooth works. Maybe some of the people having poor results should look at their diets, cleaning products, makeup, etc for possible allergens. It there mold in your house? Could make you break out. I use only natural makeups with no talc, preservatives, chemicals, etc. If you use makeup brushes or sponges make sure you clean them regularly or they will make you break out. I use natural cleaning products, detergents, softeners, etc. I try to have a 'clean' diet (almost no packaged food, lots of fresh) and drink lots of water. Makes a world of difference. Good skin is a combo of what you put in, and what you put on, your body.

Pros:

IT WORKS!!

Cons:

NONE

Tried all the other $69+ products before and got tired of giving my money away. Been a faithful customer since 11/09. You do have to give it time to work and kinda figure out our own routine of whats best for your skin. They give good instructions but that might not work for you. Its DEFINITELY worth the time and money!

Pros:

Seems to clear acne initially

Cons:

VERY drying
Made my skin appeared prematurely aged
After a few months I started getting fleshy white bumps all over my jawline and chin
Stopped working
Ridiculously hard to cancel
$19.95/month + product prices

Proactiv is a very smooth-talking scam. It may work initially but stops after a few months. The occasional blemishes I experienced prior to starting Proactiv were better than the dry skin and weird fleshy bumps it gave me. I've also heard you have to wean yourself off of it to avoid severe breakouts from coming off of the products. I stopped usage slowly, ovet the course of a month, and thankfully no breakout reaction. Bottom line? Don't use Proactiv. It's like crack to your skin and the dry skin and wrinkles it will cause are worse than pimples.

Pros:

Effective.
Doesn't irritate skin.

Cons:

Not as fast as four hours.

I have been on and off with acne for years! I have tried many products and home remedies and some work, some don't. When I was younger, I tried Clearsil and hated it, so I was a little skeptical to try this product. I have been somewhat pleased. I bought this two days ago and I am starting to notice a change in my skin. However, I have to admit, that I am not sure if this would work entirely on its own. I am now determined to rid myself of this acne and it's becoming a way of life for me. Starting with my diet...I drink as much water as I possibly can every day. Stay away from lots of sweets and salty foods (which is very hard for me) and try to avoid a lot of dairy. I use the Clearasil Fight and Fade face wash/mask every day. I exfoliate once or twice a week. Every other night I change my pillowcase. Most importantly, I have the mind set of clear skin. Meaning I don't stress about my acne and I put on a smile and show confidence. That's only some of the things that I do now. It's hard work for people with moderately severe acne like myself, but there's always hope. Good luck!

Pros:

My daughter liked the product.

Cons:

They hooked me with a $9.99 intro offer and said I could cancel. When I tried to cancel they kept sending product and charged lots more. I called twice to get it cancelled and they only stopped when I stopped paying for extra shipments. But now I'm being harrassed by a their debt collection agency.
Avoid buying this product.

Pros:

Effective
Gentle
A little goes a long way
Little to no order
Quick results

This product works and causes little to no irritation. After several months of using this product my face was clear and I stopped using it. After the loss of a friend and a very hard time adjusting to work, I had a severe breakout due to stress. I tired using the Clarisonic and other products but they did nothing to improve my acne. I went back to this product and after one month my face was completely clear. Not one blemish or black head. I may get a little bump around my menstrual cycle but that's it. I highly recommend this product as part of the 4 step regimen.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
