Pros:

In about 3 days, my terrible skin was completely clear.

Cons:

Dryness. But a great moisturizer will balance that out.

I was a jock. I was always playing some sport, running around, and being active. I also wore lots of makeup overtime just to cover up the acne. I started a new job and I realized the stress was getting to me very badly and made my jawlines and my cheeks breakout like CRAZY. I ended up grabbing this off of the shelf because it said "10%" benzoyl peroxide. I figured "I have dreadful skin, this has to work" I use it at night before I go to bed all over my face and I wake up and wash it off with an exfoliating face wash and then use Biore' moisture lotion to balance out the dryness it creates. Overall...an amazing product.

Perfect Product! I love it! I used it for 2 weeks then my skin cleared up, then I just use twice a week or when I have breakouts especially during summertime.

Pros:

I guess it cleans your face?

Cons:

This product barely did anything, not worth the hype. It actually made my skin oilier?

I stopped using my dermatologist prescribed products because I had so much faith in proactiv. I continued to break out heavily, & constantly looked in the mirror & tried to convince myself that it was working when it never was. This product would probably be great if you want to stop the OCCASIONAL pimple or two, but not if you have consistent acne.

Pros:

Works really good, gets rid of acne fast, feels nice on your skin, exfoliates as well

Cons:

None, except that this product is hard to find--had to order online

Out of all the benzoyl peroxide products out there this is definitely the best one I've used.

Pros:

It's wonderful, clears skin up, actually works!

Cons:

It is very drying, and the moisturizer over the acne lotion feels heavy, but it's worth it

I have been trying to find a working acne product since I was 10 years old,(I'm now almost 16) I've been on the prescription creams, accutane, and more. I eventually tried proactiv, it works at first, but when you sweat it really burns, and it just kinda stops...(though the refining mask is wonderful!) but yeah this system is wonderful, and the price is great as well ~2 month supply for around $20 =D

Pros:

Works next best to Acutane. Have had adult acne for years and found this product to work better than any other acne medication other than Acutane.

Cons:

None on my part.

After years of cystic acne, I have had good success with this product and would recommend it to any female bothered with acne.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
