Pros:

cleared up my skin in a matter of days
easy to use

Cons:

my skin is a bit dry

My skin started to get really bad out of no where, I tried several products (including proactiv) and none of them worked, in fact most just made my skin worse. I read about this product in an article and decided to try it, and so far it's been a GREAT decision. Im hoping it continues to clear my skin until the point of complete clarity. The only thing i would change about it is that i would put the products in bottles that have pumps on them instead, sometimes the wash slips right off my fingers!

Pros:

Great for the last 2 years, I used the regime and my acne dropped by 90%, At first it burned but after a week it was fine, neutral smell, NO white marks EVER

Cons:

Consistency is a little thick, Now that I have used it for 2 years, the bacteria have mutated and I need a stronger Benzoyl Peroxide or start using another type of treater. I can feel the pimple growing even right after applying the medication.

Make a 5% Benzoyl Peroxide for those who need

Pros:

It made my skin not oily and greasy like it usually is, its nice and tight. I've only used it for a week and a half but it seems to be working pretty well, I have moderate acne and it's not totally preventing it but Im giving it time.

Cons:

I havent seen a total transformation yet!

Try it- They have a month supply kit- if it doesn't work return it and get your money back. Nothing to loose!

Pros:

Pros don't really matter if the product doesn't work

Cons:

Doesn't work. Had just as many or worse spots as before use. Expensive.

I don't have severe acne, just some random spots here and there after getting off the BC pill. Used the gritty cleanser, toner, and repairing lotion program. Face felt clean after use and I thought it would work, however spots did not disappear and I believe they got worse. After finding this site, I did the Regimen featured on this site with a cleanser and moisturizer I had laying around plus the 2.5% Proactiv repairing lotion, and my face got better literally overnight. So I am returning the proactiv set and purchasing the acne.org products. A nice gentle cleansing is the exact opposite of the gritty proactiv scrubbing!

Pros:

The only pro I can think of is my skin felt nice immediately after I washed it...but that's it!

Cons:

Way too expensive, harsh on the skin...see below

I have heard that Proactiv has really helped a lot of people, but it didn't help me at all. I had little to no skin problems my entire life and started to break out like crazy around my mouth about 6 mos. ago. I bought Proactiv because I was roped in by the advertising and thought it would really clear me up. It didn't: Instead, my pimples STAYED and I began to develop cystic acne that have left nasty marks on my face (I had never had cystic acne before I used Proactiv!) The book I got with it said to stick with it and that it sometimes takes 6 weeks for you skin to show improvement. I ended up using it for almost 3 months and there was absolutely no improvement at all. I think I stayed on it for so long because I heard that if you go off of it, your acne will get worse. Well, I can tell you that isn't the case: I switched to Neutrogena Oil Free Cleanser and my skin feels a lot better. So if you want to try it, go ahead, it might work for you, but my experience was very sour.

Pros:

clears skin. evens tone and texture, great for the first year.

Cons:

it works well is the con. this sounds weird but i mean it in the way that if you go to bed for one night without using it your skin is terible. you cant skip it even once or youre broken out

i think it works initially but that my skin personally built a resistance to it. i dont like that its so essential to use that you cant even skip one night without breaking out, that kind of scares me. lovely product while it lasts but im on the market AGAIN for another miracle. good luck to everyone, acne is a terrible disease to suffer from.

Pros:

I've used a lot of different treatments, and Proactiv has definitely been one of the better ones. Clears up your face right away.

Cons:

It's effectiveness wears off over time, just like any other system, because your skin becomes used to it.

Despite what I've read many writing about price, I think that Proactiv is decently priced when compared to many other acne fashwash systems. I've tried a lot of different systems, including ones that are even higher priced, and I've never seen a better result than with Proactiv. It might not work for everyone's face - you gotta find something that works for you - but definitely give Proactiv a try. It's worth it.

Pros:

Gets rid of oily skin and reduces pimples with amazing speed!

Cons:

It dries your skin out a little, but think: What would you rather have, a faceful of acne, or a little bit of dry skin?

Excellant Product!

Pros:

None

Cons:

Takes to long to apply, makes skin oily, repairing lotion is too small, too long to apply, is a white people product

I freaking hate this product. My dad ordered it for me as soon as I started getting my ance; 8th grade. It worked from 8th to 10th grade. Then after my skin started getting really oily and Proactive stopped working. So, I bought Proactive's 5 step system (which includes daily oil control.) Nope, still no change. This stuff sucks. I hate it. With all of its endorsements, I felt like an outsider when it stopped working for me. Out of all the people that this stuff supposedly works for, it doesn't work for me. Just my luck. I've kicked Proactive to the curb and I'm never going back to it. Never! My sister and I both believe that this product isn't for black people. BTW I'm black.

Great consistency, works excellent, inexpensive.

Love this product!! Wish I came across it a long time ago! I have had onset adult acne on my chin area, and this product has improved my skin immensely and not drying!!

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
