Pros:

you will never break out again and your skin will look amazing

Cons:

you must use it religiously to see results

I know first hand what some of you are saying about proactiv making your skin itchy, sensitive, red, etc... That used to happen to me too until i started incorporating a moisturizer into my routine... here are a few tips: Use proactiv night AND day EVERYDAY to see results. Use a moisturizer and sunscreen EVERYDAY OR ELSE YOUR SKIN WILL BECOME RED, IRRITATED, AND/OR FEEL REALLY TIGHT!!! that is the key to proactiv if you follow your regular routine with a moisturizer (i use olay regenerist) then you will see the full results! and SUNSCREEN IS A MUST! acne products leave your skin extra sensitive to the sun... BELIEVE ME I STARTED USING PROACTIV WHEN I WAS IN 6TH GRADE!! I AM NOW 18 YEARS OLD AND A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS STUFF WORKS!!! i also recommend you use an eye cream (I use olay regenerist eye) also don't expect to see perfect skin in a week it takes time but you will notice a big change by week 3!

Pros:

Our son is 14, The product has helped reduce his acne.

Cons:

Proactiv damages clothing, sheets, towels and any colored fabic that it touches. The price is very high considering that you will need to replace clothing. Weaid $26 a month with about $250 extra by the time we figure out what was causing the damage.

Proactiv has rude customer service. Similar products can be bought at the local Walmart must less expensive. People should band together and file a class action law suite against these crooks. You are sent a 2 month supply that only last 1 month, but your are billed twice.

Pros:

I can't say enough about this product. I was a skeptic but in the first few times I used it I could tell that it was amazing. It works fast!!! It is the cleanest feel I have ever felt. My skin is so happy!!!

Cons:

The only con is that I didn't find it before I spent thousands of dollars on every other product you can think of.

This absolutely works! I bought a whole line of product with their AMAZING soap, scrub and three lotions. They even sent me travel sizes for free along with extra soap. The night lotion is to die for. I wake up with beautiful skin. The scrub is totally addicting. You will want to use it more than the recommended once per day, but don't...just trust the product. You will find that your new healthy complexion will inspire you to clean up other parts of your body. You will want to take better care of yourself. I know this sounds like a lot to expect from a skin care product but when you have tried as much as I have and cried over terrible and painful breakouts with one disappointment after another in ineffective and overpriced treatments...you will know how this kind of exuberance can occur. Don't hesitate to try this! The company has been amazing with fast shipping and great communication.

Pros:

It's much better than anything else I've tried.

Cons:

I was really hoping that using it religiously over time would clear my acne completely, but although there is a big improvement, it stubbornly refuses to clear totally.

I really wish it didn't cost so much (as it has to come over the Atlantic to reach me) and that someone in England would start to distribute it!

Pros:

Is effective and works quickly (~2-4 days)

Cons:

Can bleach clothing

Best bang for your buck.

Pros:

the part of my face that DOESN'T have acne looks smoother than ever before.....

Cons:

my face feels irriated, dry and tight. my pimples aren't clearing up, but they are becomming bigger and redder!i have never felt this dry before!kinda pricy.

This not the miracle product that i thought it would be. I was shocked that it made my skin WORSE! i guess i'm a sucker for good commericials! The truth is if you're skin is sensitive or you have little acne, this is not for you. find something that will sooth and heal the skin, not attack it!! if anyone knows an acne product that will sooth and heal- let me know!!

Pros:

After a month or two you get lots of complements about your clear skin. Pretty easy to use and not really expensive.

Cons:

You have to use it for a while, not just a week or two and then dump it.

It does take a month or more but once you've used it for that long i think it really does the trick. My face has fully cleared up and the pimples are not coming back while I still use this product. I have tried so many products, even really flashy expensive skin treatment lines and this has been the best by far. Will not ever go back to other products.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
