Pros:

It does work (slowly). The first month I used it my acne got worse but after a while it really did start to clear up. It reduces the redness and the clay mask works well on new pimples, and it doesn't sting.

Cons:

It's really expensive. It works as fast as a snail can travel around the world. Sometimes makes acne worse.

Proactiv is O.K. It has some good points but some really bad ones too.

Pros:

Works well for the first month or so.
Easy to use

Cons:

After i stopped using it i have really severe acne..
The bottles aren't big ebough to last.

Wouldn't suggest anyone buy the product. Its crap!

Pros:

Good price for a large amount.

Cons:

No matter how long I wait after I apply this product, my moisturizer always rolls up on my face. I will actually go back to Proactiv (although Proactiv is so much more costly).

Good buy for the product but my skin felt better after using Proactiv's solution and I will continue to use it. I do not have bad acne at all, but I felt the proactiv is a better choice for me.

Pros:

Does clear up severe to moderate acne, smells decent, mask works great overnight

Cons:

has to be used everyday, you become a slave to the proactiv gods, and does little to nothing for blackheads

All the chemicals in Proactiv do more harm than good in my opinion, everyone including myself seem to find that once you stop using it you are screwed. I've used it for over 3 years now and can't stop for fear that my acne will keep coming back.

Pros:

Product is not a problem but they are over charging and eating my money if you call customer service the will require you to fax your bank statement, you hav to call bank, go to bank, talk to somebody, fax, wait you will lose your money and time OMG

Cons:

Product is not a problem but they are over charging and eating my money if you call customer service the will require you to fax your bank statement, you hav to call bank, go to bank, talk to somebody, fax, wait you will lose your money and time OMG

Do not risk your valuable time to talking to this people just go to store and buy other products

Pros:

None!

Cons:

It dried out my skin SO much. The skin around my lips is cracking so much that I can't even smile. I have tons of NEW little pimples all over my forehead and cheeks.

It's awful.

Pros:

WORKS GREAT! Noticed a difference in a matter of days! Even the blackheads on my nose that i have NEVER been able to get rid of are disapearing :)

Cons:

Terminator makes my skin itchy if I use too much in one area

I bought AcneFree Sensitive out of desperation for a product that works. I get really bad cystical acne when the seasons change and they result in terrible dark scars on my face that take months to disapear. I have used similar products in the past, but they have always dried my skin out to the point where I would rather the pimples than the irritation. This Sensitive formula is so great on my skin. I noticed immediate results, especially since I could feel/see a huge pimple growing on my forehead and now it's gone. I would strongly reccomend this product if you have sensitive skin or even if you don't. It's so mild that I have not had any problems, except for the Terminator sometimes makes my skin itchy, but I think that's because I get a little overzealous with it from time to time. I would take a mild itch over zits any day! I just had to come on here and let the world know how pleased I am, and I hope this is helpful!

Pros:

it does work rly well and it actually removes zits and it works really fast...

Cons:

it drys out the skin... horribly but if you have a moisturizer it will help

buy it it rly does work but don't forget to buy the moisturizer...

Pros:

Can help to prevent the formation of future acne.

Cons:

Classified as category 3 product, "safety unknown" by the FDA...... (it use to be category 1, "safe", but they reversed it.) Generates free radicals which will slow the healing process. Linked to cancer, and is known as a tumor promoting agent.

Been tested on mice and is regarded as a tumor promoter in them. Causes redness and dry skin. I used this for a long time and it did help somewhat but never actually cured me of my acne. After doing research on it I've decided to never use it again due to the fact that it is really bad for your skin. It accelerates aging of the skin and when exposed to sunlight becomes a free radical creator which can cause skin cancer. I've begun using Dr. Wexler's products (bought at bath and body works) and me skin has never been this good. Some of the products use salicylic acid which can actually benefit your skin. My advice - use at your own risk.....this stuff may be more dangerous to your health than you think, do some research and decide for yourself!

Pros:

It really cleared up my skin right away when I first starting using the products and have only had problems when I skip a couple days. I've been using this product for over 9 years.

Cons:

The cleanser runs out before everything else and I have to buy extra bottles of it (it comes in a 3 pack on the website or at the mall).

It works great for me. It's a little expensive, especially since I buy extra bottles of cleanser every six months or so, but I figure it is worth it if it keeps my skin clear. Make sure you use the oil free moisture to keep your skin from drying out. Again, I've been using Proactiv for over 9 years, so something must be working, but try it for yourself.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
