Pros:

used consistently, it clears up skin very well and prevents future breakouts

Cons:

should be paired with a daily moisturizer to keep skin hydrated

I've had great results with Proactiv. It took several weeks to see a difference, but I use it very consistently, and my skin has been clear for about 8 mos. I've tried everything for the past 10 years or so...over the counter products, lots of expensive prescriptions from the derm, anything & everything. Some would work for a few months, but this is the only thing that has kept the acne away. I have moderate acne, sometimes cystic, which is soooo embarrasing. I've been reading a lot of the reviews, and see comments on the cost, drying of the skin, and the fact that you have to keep using it to keep skin clear. To me, a good product is worth the cost. Also, you should expect it dry your skin a little to keep skin clear...thats why you have acne, because of too much oil production! Just pair it with a good moisturizer. Lastly, of course you have to keep using it! If thats how to keep skin clear, then i"ll keep doing it. Everyone is different, but for me, its been worth every penny.

Pros:

Best over the counter value. Easy to use, easy to find in stores, no ordering online, if you don't want. Last me a couple months.

Cons:

I can smell the sulfur on my face if I use it in the mornings.

I am 30 and have had acne since I was 12. At 22 I went on Accutane, which cleared me up for a few years. After that it was back to pure acne hell. I tried everything all over again. My skin had become more sensitive than before. All the salicylic acid products burned my face. I used Mirad's 3 step system and the sulfur spot treatment seemed to work pretty well but again, the rest of the products were filled with salicylic acid. I found Acne Free's Redness Relief about 6 months ago and I have to say, it's worked wonders!!! I'm so thankful for this product. It was a bit drying and caused some peeling in the first week but after that, I can't believe how much my skin cleared. I now use it mainly at night because I can smell the product on my face during the day and because if I use it morning and night, it's a bit too drying. Using once a day I can say my skin is great, I don't even have to wear make up!! Highly recommended.

Pros:

-chewable, tasteless tablets

Cons:

-vanishing cream makes eyes water the first few times
-bad drying of the skin
-only worked the first week

It doesn't work. It worked the first week. The bumps were flat but then they came back later on.

Pros:

Makes skin feel very soft if you have green tea mouisturizer, Clears up acne a little

Cons:

Cleared up ALL of my acne when I received the 60 day free trial but when I bout the kit it didn't work anymore. All of my acne came back!...Skin will be dry without green tea mouisturizer, Isn't consistent, takes a long time to do this treatment

This is OK! Seems like the free trial did better than I actual kit! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you have the time & the money to constantly buy this every couple of months. Not worth the money and isn't worth the media hype in my opinion

Pros:

Clears up acne

Cons:

Dries skin

Very good products.I had a lot of painful pimples around my jawline and on my chin and now they're drying out. My my skin texture is overall bumpy but now its smoother. The blackheads on my nose are making their way out. I love the cleanser, love the toner, but be careful with the repairing lotion. Make sure to only apply it thinly to the affected areas. I put it all over my face but put too much under my chin and got raw and red. Its better after a couple days of moisturizer.

Pros:

Works better on both of my teenage sons, when they us it. I do know when they don't use it.When they run out my oldest willlet me know. My boys just use the cleanser, they won't do all the steps.Works GREAT!!Better then Pro Active. Much cheaper too!

Cons:

Can't think of any!

LOVE this product!!

Pros:

-clears up smaller pimples quickly

Cons:

-the first time i used it it burned a little bit, but thats no biggie

I am a 14 year old girl who has struggled with what i think was moderate acne for a few years. This has been the only thing that worked ! I have only used it for four days (once a day i apply it at night to the problem areas) and my forehead small white pimples have reduced size dramatically and some have dissapeared. On my chin i had 2 pimples which i usually only get deepish ones there, and those 2 cleared up. The deepish- skin colored ones have sort of reduced size, those are a bit harder. For some reason i have always stayed away from bp, and tried many different salicylic acid products, which never worked for me! I am so happy i found this stuff! (just be careful to not use it too much or it CAN make your skin worse...it says 1-3 times a day if your work up to 3, but i am sticking to once and the occasional twice. ) Good luck everyone !

Pros:

In just a very few days my acne was all gone, and before them I went through some really bad acne. It was so bad once someone thought I had fallen (because bloody scabs) so she asked how many fingers she was holding up - embarrassing for a 6th grader

Cons:

just the dryness of the cream, i never really used it anyways.

a little expensive for just a month. but it's well worth it.

Pros:

NONE!

Cons:

This product is horrible and overdries your skin. I would not even recomend this to my worst enemy. I was hoping that this product would be strong enough but so far its terrible

WAY To much overdrying of your skin. After I used it my skin was aching!

Pros:

Cons:

made my skin super dry and causes more acne wasnt scented which was good

dont buy it! makes you acne worse

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
