Pros:

Clears up some acne

Cons:

Harsh; dries skin very severely

Good if you have REALLY bad acne. For those of us who have less, it really dries out skin and doesn't help too much. Also, the facial wash smells so sulfuric and bad it makes you REALLY gag.

Pros:

Definitely helps keep minor acne (specifically across my shoulders) under control; I start breaking out a bit if I stop using it.

Cons:

Did not work the magic I hoped it would and it bleached my pillow cases regardless of whether or not I waited the recommend fifteen minutes for it to dry. Because of this, I couldn't use BP in the mornings; my clothes would be bleached!

I'm hesitant to use more than a minimal amount on my face. I know the breaking out and redness is supposed to be a phase, but even after weeks of starting treatment, my shoulders were still horrendously rough and dry, so I was a bit unwilling to find out how my face would react.

Pros:

-Improves skin texture over night
-not over drying
-tightens pores
-a little goes a long way!

Cons:

- doesn't always work over night if the pimple is to far advanced

This has really helped me with pimples on my forehead. If you put it on before bed, it will clear the acne about 90%. But you need to use it consistantly to get the same reasults after a while.

Cons:

Made acne worse
Very irritant

Had very little acne until I started using now my whole face is covered with acne

Pros:

Cleared up my acne
Left my skin feeling smooth
Smells great

Cons:

Leaves your face a little shiny

I've had moderate acne for about 5 years now and tried just about everything until a friend of mine suggested proactiv. Seriously, IT WORKS! Different people have different skin types and react to different products in different ways, but I would highly recommend it to anyone with moderate acne. The only problem is that it does leave your face a little shiny, but I would take that over clear skin any day.

Pros:

Quick Result in one or two weeks for moderate acne.
Good Toner

Cons:

Expensive
Cannot clear acne
dryness and tightness

I have used proactive for more than a year and I must say it controls and neutralize my acne but never completely eliminated it thats why I have to use it continously. Recently I stop using it because it's quite expensive..60 dollars a month is not a joke..I found other alternative...

Pros:

Cheap, simple.

Cons:

Not effective AT ALL.

Nothing that appears to help at all. Yes all skin is different but my friends and I both never saw any reductions in pimple size, color, or texture of skin. I religiously used these products for about 3-4 months and actually got comments on how my skin actually looked WORSE. Do not use this.

Pros:

well known name.

Cons:

Dries Up Skin
Expensive
Doesn't Work
False Advertising

DO NOT BUY if you are looking to clear acne and do not wish to have peeling, dry, burnt skin. **THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION AND IF YOU FEEL THAT IT MAY WORK FOR YOU AND YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF IT DOESN'T, TRY IT. YOU NEVER KNOW.**

Pros:

worked. saw results the day after.

Cons:

nothing.

I get confused when i see people dont like it. it completely cleared up my skin BUT i only have slight acne on forehead and chin. so probably isnt great fro really bad acne. but for moderate or mild acne it is seriously great!! and i rarely have breakouts anymore.
March 30, 2012

Pros:

none

Cons:

-made acne worse!
-made my skin really red!

I was really excited to try out Clinique since I heard alot of good things about the skincare line. However, their acne products did not work for me. I was faithful to the regimen for a few weeks, and all it did was make my skin worse! At first I thought my skin was purging, but then I started breaking out in places I've never broken out in before (my cheeks) so I knew i was not purging-i was just breaking out. I stopped clinique, went back to proactiv and a week later my skin was 85% better! I do NOT recommend clinique at all.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
