Pros:

Tea Tree Oil

Cons:

Dryer Skin
More Break Outs
Very Expensive
More Scars

Proactiv is very deceiving, their pictures, their reviews, and success stories. They give out alot of endorsements and like any other product pay to look good. So of course when watching their infomercials I thought okay let me try this if it worked for all these people then it should work for me too, especially since the pictures they always have are people with severe acne and mine wasnt that bad. After around a month and a half is when I started seeing results, not no two weeks or week after I first started using it like many others like to claim. The Toner dried my skin out bad, it made my skin red and flaky, and the moisturizer did not help one bit, the only thing that did help was the tea tree oil but it ran out fast and is too expensive to keep buying. But giving it the Benefit of a doubt I kept using it, In total I used Proactiv for about a Year and a half before I finally decided to stop and even then stopping is not even easy to use with their customer service; They ask you why your stopping and tell you to wait and try other products they have, I called all in all about 3 times before finally being able to stop the service only because I lied and told them I lost my job and had no way to pay; they were glad to let me go since I couldn't give them the money they wanted. After it seems that it made my acne worse, I break out alot more often than I did before using proactiv and my skin is alot more dry; Proactiv only hides the problem, it does not help it at all. I still get their promotion cards to come back and renew my account in the mail and they go straight to the trash. Dont waste your money on this, save yourself the time as well because I didnt and I regret it very much.

Pros:

I like the fact that it's a gel instead of a cream. And most importantly - it works!

Cons:

very drying

After having acne for 20 years, and trying every product and every diet on the market, I finally found something that works. I love the whole Acne.org system.

Pros:

EVERYTHING

Cons:

-cleanser was a little bit strong, but not too overwhelming
-very light peeling, but for first couple of days

I've dealt with acne for YEARS now and it's been my biggest insecurity. I used to have very light acne, until I started ProActiv. Once I stopped, my acne got REALLY bad! I tried going back onto ProActiv but it got so much more worse and started to make my skin really oily. I've tried everything from home remedies, to dermatology prescribed creams, over-the-counter facial cleansers and nothing has worked until THIS. The lady at Clinique said it would take about 6 weeks, but I've only been using it for about 4 weeks and I've seen MAJOR improvement. The first couple of days, my skin was no longer oily, but my skin actually glowed. All my friends and family saw a difference, and I was so much more happier. In all honesty, this is the first review I've ever done for any product I've tried because this is how much I am in LOVE with this. I can't believe I've tried almost everything to get to this simple 3-step product. It's amazing and I highly recommend it. My acne has gone away & I am only dealing with acne scars that are fading day by day.

Pros:

-step by step process, easy to follow
-uses benzoyl peroxide, a really great acne treatment
-works for a while

Cons:

-stops working completely after a while
-toner is super acidic
-scrub is abrasive
-the seaweed mask caused breakouts
-the last step was not a moisturizer

I remember trying this in High School. I followed the steps completely and attained super clear skin. And then, out of nowhere it stopped. The toner started to really burn my skin and it just became a mess. It's also got pretty expensive, especially over time. I know tons of people who just have proactive lying around their house cause it stops working. Go with something over the counter with benzoyl peroxide in it and moisturize afterwards. I felt the moisturizing step in Proactive was not effective enough.

Pros:

My daughter used this throughout high school and college. She had good results for a while, then an immunity built up and it no longer worked.

Cons:

Did not receive shipment? Guess what? They'll credit your stuff, but not the shipping. Have been hounding me for $5.95 for 3 months even after credit card dispute was taken care of.

Product OK Business Practice: Not so much

Pros:

-simple system and packaging
-some of the products are really nice
-the refining mask is awesome

Cons:

-small bottles for the price
-It contains fragrance, and known skin irritant!!!
-It uses benzoyle peroxide, which works, but is known to speed up aging.
-company is annoying to deal with

I used proactive and it worked well at first but my skin became immune. I didn't like how the smell lingered on my face. The company was difficult to deal with, and when my monthly shipment didn't arrive on time, I was out for a couple of weeks. I liked how the cleanser had exfoliating beads. I really liked the green tea moisturizer, but it contains fragrance which is so bad for acne, and the bottle is TINY for the expensive price. With all the extras, its confusing to get on a regimine with proactive. The only thing I still buy from this line is the refining mask, which I love. If I have a bad breakout, this does damage control and dries all the pimples out.

Pros:

Clears up redness
Big acne improvement
Clean, Fresh feeling after washing
Soft skin
Blackheads shrinking :)

Cons:

I was stupid and used the drying out moisturizer all over my face... It dried every inch of my face out and caused it to become flaky. Just use the moisturizer, a pea size amount, on trouble areas. Otherwise, I used another lotion on my face.

I use to only get one zit per month, but lately I have been getting 2-3 per week. I was so depressed because of it and I thought I was ugly. I know now that I was stupid and shouldn't let skin problems run my life like that. This clinique face care gave me confidence because my face cleared up quickly. It has only been a week, but even so, my face has changed for the better. Now all I need is to find a great moisturizer.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
