save your face if you have sensitive skin.

Pros:

* tingly feeling made you feel as though something was happening

Cons:

No noticeable reducation of pimples; very drying; bleached all of my towels and pillowcases; difficult to order from Canada (charged me for my order but I did not receive it for months... kept having to call and ask them to try and send it again)

This product's hype did not come through in reality for me. I followed the routine religiously, morning and before bed using the entire line of suggested products. I noticed no reducation of pimples, but my skin did dry out considerably (and not in a good way). Most disturbingly, the product bleached all of my towels (used to dry face with after cleansing) and my pillowcases (from sleeping with the moisturizer on skin). I've never had a skincare product do this before. If it is doing that to your linens, what do you think it is doing for your skin?? Bleaching your skin can't be a good thing. All-in-all, I had to try this product because of the incessant and convincing advertising, but now that I've tried it I know that it might work for Jessica Simpson, but noit did not qork at all for me.

Pros:

- Dries out pimples FAST

Cons:

Maybe a little drying if overused, but other than that NONE

Buy it. Ive tried other products, proactiv ect and they didnt work! This is the only spot treatment that has worked for me for years :)
June 18, 2009

Pros:

feels great, works well, very cheap, same ingredients as proactiv, makes my skin feel good, and does not dry my skin at all

Cons:

none

i tried proactiv and it worked but it was to expensive then i discovered this. i tried this and got amazing results. my skin is basically glowing because of this product.

Pros:

Eventually works. Easy to use.

Cons:

Refining Mask does NOT work. Doesn't do anything, and occasionaly makes zits bigger. Dries out skin without moisturizer. It's very expensive.

It is very gradual...if you forget one night your acne will come back! Very expensive..but works pretty well.
June 16, 2009

Pros:

It makes your face feel really fresh and it clears most of your red pimples/pores. just be aware that you must have moderate-severe acne.

Cons:

for some people, they can get irritated and cause dryness

for people who struggle with bad acne, like me
June 16, 2009

Pros:

Got rid of some of my acne.

Cons:

It's really expensive. It dried out my skin and made it red. I tried the moisturizer but it was still very dry. It burns really bad when I use it.

It's not worth the price. It did clear up my acne, but it dried my skin out and made my skin turn red. Don't get it!
June 16, 2009

Pros:

Could probably work for someone who breaks out on few occassions

Cons:

Drying, haven't really noticed much of a difference in my acne

Not very impressed. I'm sure there are better washes that are less drying.
June 13, 2009

Pros:

It worked well for about 2 weeks.

Cons:

It stopped working!

It might work for you and its pretty cheap, I prefer it to proactiv.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
