Pros:

My skin does seem clearer, though not perfect. After years and years of bad skin, "clearer", for me, means, "better."

Cons:

A little dry and itchy at first, but get a good moisturizer during the day to counteract it.

It's not a miracle medication, but it helps.

Pros:

little improvement...

Cons:

price, works really slow...

I've been using it for few moths for my bacne, seems it's time to change medication - I'm not satisfied with the results.

Pros:

I didn't get any skin irritation

Cons:

It took a long time to see results

Acne has been getting me down. I know people mean well, but I hate it when people make comments about my face...like ' oh you poor thing, aren't you eating well?' or ' I think you should see a doctor'. I have been to many and tried so many things! And just when I feel that I have won the emotional battle by pretending to forget that I have acne and try to not let it discourage me from doing basic things like going for a swim or meeting new people.....just when I get over this emotional hurdle...a little comment or stare from someone can bring me right back down! Differin worked slowly and not so dramatically.

Pros:

- smoothes out skin
- clears skin

Cons:

none really, except maybe the dryness...
I still get a few pimples here and there, nothing as drastic as it used to be. Keep things in perspective; take what you can.
I'd rather suffer with a few pimples here and there then big cysts weekly.

First of all, the product doesn't really fade scars, so i dont know why people are sayin that? Scars fade over time naturally, it has nothing to do with differin itself. Use differin once a night; be patient, and the results will come. Surprisingly, I didn't get an "initial breakout" at all...my skin just started slowly clearing up. To each thier own, that's all you need to know. However, dont give up after two weeks. Two months should be when you think about quitting. What I did was - since I started in the summer - I'd put it on 2 days a week for 2 initial weeks, then 3 days a week, then 5 days a week, and then finally 7 days a week. Using this method, my skin tolerated it quite nicely as well. I hate benzoyl on my skin (it's so dry!) so I've never been a fan. Differin does dry out your skin tho, but even that has died down for me since I've started taking Vitamin A pills (which helps with dry skin). Good luck guys, and its definetly worth a try :)

Pros:

None I can see

Cons:

Major acceleration of break outs on initial use

Following 2-3 weeks of extra acne - which the instructions do fore warn - Differin has had no benefit on my moderate acne. Even after using it for a few months, I'll put it on at night and have a red face for the whole morning the next day.

Pros:

Not irritating, cures the causes of acne, not the symptoms. Lasts for very long.

Cons:

Price (though not as much as I saw in other posts - see price paid), in some cases may make acne worse in few first weeks of using.

I recommend using on night and during the day - benzoil peroxide.

Pros:

It works, you will see results after 4 weeks of nightly use. Dryness not a problem if you use a thin layer of aqueous cream on your skin first.

Cons:

For more severe acne, it's not enough on its own.
You may need to use it for the rest of your life as the benefit stops once you stop using it!

It's the step to take before Roaccutane. I have moderate acne on my face and got good results after 3 months of nightly differin ( the cream is much better than the gel)...you must make sure you use as little as possible and you must rub it in well, it has to get down into the pores to work!Pair the differin with an antibiotic like lymecycline ( also known as tetralysal) for better results. If this doesn't work, go for Roaccutane
December 13, 2006

Pros:

clears skin,

Cons:

i really like this product but honestly, if you dont use it for one night you will break out. I am dependant on it and that is a con! it also makes my face a little tight

clears skin, but you need to use it consistantly.

to anyone who experiences dryness... its called a moisturizer! you might think that it causes breakouts but if u get the right kind, it prevents them. just got differin and hoping to see improvement. wash 2 times a day and if ur skin is dry moisturize it, its that simple

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
