A way of using benzoyl peroxide in combination with the topical retinoid, adapalene, that studies show works a bit better than benzoyl peroxide alone. Comes with side effects for the first weeks and can bleach fabric. Note: When used correctly, benzoyl peroxide on its own can completely clear the skin.

Pros:

-reduces redness to a light pink color
-clears cysitc acne almost right away
-clears other acne in about 2 days

Cons:

-dryness
-redness
-burning
-makes every thing you put on it sting

Ive only been using this for about 3 days and im already satisfied my acne is WAY better already, however my chin is red and irritated for about an hour or so after using it i have no idea why its only on my chin. At first i used it with neutrogena oil free acne wash because it what my dermatologist told me to use but i found that using it combined with epiduo made the side effects even worse so now i use it with the cetaphil gentle cleansing bar and the redness and dyness arnt as bad, overall i think its a good product except for the side effects. But even angels have flaws!!!

Pros:

Easy to use
Reduces redness
Helps with cystic acne
Dryness isn't too bad with moisturizer
It's effective

Cons:

Will dry if you dont use moisturizer
Initial breakout
Burns skin when you wear makeup after washing your face
Gets worse before it gets better

Been suffering with acne for 5+ years now. I've been on Epiduo for about 3 weeks now. First few days I noticed it reduced my redness. After another few days I experienced drying and mild peeling. About close to 2 weeks in the initial breakout started, which is the worst but I know it means the product is working. I'm coming up on my 3rd week now and the initial breakout is slowing down and not as bad, more redness is reducing and inflammation is reducing. I suffered with some cystic acne on one side of my face and that is starting to go away as well and I'm very pleased! I'm going to continue to use this product and hopfully within the next few weeks I will see even better results. I highly recommened this product.

Pros:

Truly works, easy to use

Cons:

Takes awhile to work, can burn skin if too much is applied

I tried Epiduo twice. The first time I over-applied it and caused horrible burns on my face. I refused to believe it was my fault and stopped the medication. I got desperate a second time because my acne was taking over my face. I started it again, and after a few months of use (about 2) I started noticing a remarkable difference. With a little resilience, my acne cleared for the most part. A word of warning -- even if your acne is gone, DON'T stop using the medication until the tube is gone. I stopped the treatment after I was satisfied, and my acne has come back a little bit. I've started treatment again. THIS IS NOT AN OVERNIGHT CURE, but it is well worth the wait.

Pros:

-Clears up acne and keeps it at bay
-Works relatively quickly
-Use only at night when sleeping
-Only a pea sized amount needed
-Can be used as spot treatment for quickly drying up a pimple
-Goes onto face with a clear, smooth consistency
-Uses two different ingredients to effectively fight acne
-Inexpensive with insurance

Cons:

-Takes time to completely get rid of acne
-Might have an initial breakout
-Dries up skin for the first month or so

I had moderate acne this past year and I started using Epiduo at night and taking Monodox (a pill) twice a day. Although it took time, this combination got rid of my acne completely, and I think Epiduo was the main cause of that. It dried up my skin a lot at first, but if you get a good moisturizer (I recommend CeraVe) and exfoliate daily, you can keep it under control. Epiduo works quickly but it takes time to completely get rid of your acne. After about two months, my acne was all gone. I still use Epiduo at night and I have no pimples on my face at all now. All that's left is hyperpigmentation, which will fade with time. All in all, Epiduo is a great product and I highly recommend it!

Pros:

Completely stopped my breakouts

Cons:

Drys out your face BADLY for a week

So, like most that start using epiduo, my face was SCALDING off within the first week of use. I was applying a pea sized amount to my whole face every night. After the 3rd day of having my face peel off, I called my dermatologist and he told me to use it every other day and also don't skimp on the mosturizer. Of course my face also started breaking out insanely bad after the first week. I'm now on week three, and have pretty much fallen in love with it now that I've got a routine down. I wash my face w/ cetaphil in a.m. and do a light exfoliation scrub (clinique). I use the clinique mosturizer too. In the evenings I wash with cetaphil again and put on pea sized epiduo all over face. On nights that I skip the epiduo I'll use salicylic acid (be careful, it can STING after all the epiduo peeling) to dry out/fade old scars. I don't have anymore active pimples, and am now working on fading old scars. It's nice to be able to put on makeup without worrying about large mountains on my face :) If youre thinking of quitting epiduo b/c of the burning or peeling, DONT! It's well worth the wait. If you're feeling self conscious about the peeling, just fix your hair nice and concentrate on something else for a few days. It's worked wonders for me!!!!

Pros:

-will not disappoint regarding results
-did not get initial break out or irritation, even after and month. ( you could be the lucky one and get no side effects)
-2 in 1 action :)
-pea size will over whole face (unless you have a big face...)
-quite soothing ^^

Cons:

-my lack of side effects make me wonder if I'm doing it right, haha :)
-pricy without insurance

It wouldnt hurt to try, and after hard work of patience and dedication. The results you want will come through no matter how bad the "side effects" are!

Pros:

easy to apply
no fragrance
nice consistency

Cons:

brings out existing breakouts
takes a long time

this is a decent product. takes a while to start working the way you'll want it to which is to clear up your skin. if you have any hidden pimples it'll bring them out so you will feel as though your breaking out but the product is really trying to just extract the bacteria. if your patient and your skin isn't too sensitive then why not give this a try. you can get deals on this product too. my insurance paid for almost all of it

Pros:

Anti-inflammatory properties observed

Cons:

IB seemed excessive and no resulting change in overall skin condition was observed, save for deterioration due to the IB. Itchiness and dryness.

I used this product for 6 weeks. My acne was mild, and I figured I would endure the IB if it would eventually clear me up completely. Well, the IB was pretty bad, and made my skin worse than it's been in a long time, or ever. Furthermore, as I was nearing the 7-8 weeks mark when many have attested I'd see results, no end to the IB was in sight. In fact, all indicators of developing white heads pointed to an oncoming increase in severity. I know my skin well, and I didn't foresee a point where this medication would equilibrate into clarity for my skin. Therefore, I discontinued use even though I did not make it to 3 or even 2 months. Bottom line, if your acne is just mild, it's not worth the severe IB. If it is severe, it may be worth it, but I can not attest to whether it clears you up in the long run.

Finding a Doctor

The right dermatologist can make a big difference to your patient experience and the success of your acne treatment plan. Here are the steps to find a dermatologist who is a good fit:

  1. Use the search feature on the American Academy of Dermatology website to look for board-certified dermatologists in your area, and filter the search results for doctors with a special interest in treating acne.
  2. Read online patient reviews of any dermatologists you are considering and ask people you know whether they have any experience with these dermatologists.
  3. Do your research and go to your first appointment with questions prepared.
  4. Listen to what your gut feeling tells you once you see a dermatologist in person. If you are not completely comfortable, try a different dermatologist.

Finding a Doctor

Only a select few plastic surgeons specialize in acne scar revision surgery. Be certain to find a provider who specializes in acne scar repair and who is passionate and experienced in this area.

Be sure to:

  • Look at before and after photos, the more the better, especially patients with similar scarring to your own.
  • Be realistic about results. Look for improvement, not a cure.

Questions to ask a potential scar revision specialist:

  • Are you board certified? Be certain that they are board certified.
  • How long have you been performing these procedures? Normally, the more experience the better, however, some younger surgeons may be more on top of the latest procedures.
  • Can I speak to some of your other patients? Ask for references for several patients who had similar scarring and speak to them about the process and their satisfaction with results.

Red flags:

  • Their story changes: As you discuss different treatment options, if they tend to change their mind easily, or agree with whatever you say, consider this a red flag. A confident, experienced surgeon will possess strong, unwavering opinions.
  • Your gut tells you "no": Trust your gut. If you just don't feel that the doctor is the right fit, trust that and move on. On the other hand, if you feel they are the perfect specialist for you, trust that feeling.
