Pros:

Helps fade dark acne spots
Cheap
Easy to find

Cons:

Must take after meal
Sometimes dizzy

I started 50mg GNC brand Monday with a face full of spots. And by Friday I noticed some fading. I was so excited because I got tired of my pretty face being downgraded because of spots! Im African American but very light skinned. Far as curing acne I'm not so sure because its too soon I still break out but my bumps are small not even noticeable, they may be old ones I had before taking zinc. I used retina a micro and proactiv and it burned my face bad I'm still red from it but my spots are starting to blend in with my skin. I think! I dont know if its the vitamin c I take every day. Regardless of the fact start from the inside then out

Pros:

Acne started to calm after one day, seriously
Skin texture and tone vastly improved
Cystic acne immediately started to disappear
Super cheap - 4 dollars for 2 months supply

Cons:

Absolutely none.

Unbelievable. I literally cannot believe that my doctors never thought to test my blood for vitamin deficiencies. I started to get hormonal acne at 23 and it's gotten worse over the years, I'm now 27. The past year has been especially atrocious, with painful, deep cysts popping up every two days and they wouldn't go away for weeks. I am taking ortho-tri cyclin as well, but my acne turned around the day that I started taking 100mg of zinc in the morning with a multi-vitamen. I've also switched from coffee to green tea, but I'm 99% percent sure that Zinc is responsible for my skin turning around the way it has. If you're having issues with hormonal acne, try adding Zinc and see what happens.

Pros:

Cleared up my skin totally
Stopped me from getting colds
Generally good for your health
Cheap and easy to obtain
No initial breakout

Cons:

Only worked in the short term
Makes you feel sick as a dog if taken on empty stomach
Can't be taken with cereal i.e. no breakfast cereal

I've tried loads of stuff for my skin (except Accutane - yet), both prescription and over the counter. My family are dead against vitamin supplements and I was a little sceptical, but this was actually prescribed to me by a doctor in France and for about a few months worked incredibly. I had beautiful skin and, to boot, the Zinc stopped me from getting any kind of cough or cold and I had a rock hard immune system. After a few months, however, stopped working. Not sure why. The effects for those two months were so dramatic, though, that I am now no longer sceptical about vitamin supplements and continue to take Zinc - even if it hasn't cleared up my skin, I have far fewer coughs and colds. If you take it on an empty stomach, it will make you feel really sick.

Pros:

Extremely easy compared to other treatments, no side effects, worked really well

Cons:

none

I have been taking 80mg of zinc for two weeks and my skin has improved dramatically. Let me say that I didn't have active acne, but I had very prominent redness left over from severe acne. My face looked like I constantly was sunburnt and "angry." My skin was also very very oily. I also had quite a few blackheads on my nose, and clogged pores on my cheeks. So I started taking 30mg (Nature's Way) in the morning and 50 mg (Nature's Bounty) at night, both with meals. My redness has been reduced by about 85% and my skin is significantly less oily. I should mention that I got rid of my acne a while ago by adopting a vegan diet (except I still eat egg whites every once in a while), and the zinc only helped with the aftermath of the acne, so I can't say how well it works on current acne. I hope this simple treatment works for you, good luck!

Pros:

Skin cleared almost completely within days and all redness around scars seemed to fade. I started taking it after a violent breakout as I read that it worked and I was surprised as to how well and how quick.

Cons:

Felt a bit sick shortly after taking it, but it goes quite quickly.

In the past I've been on oxytetracyline, doxycyline, dyferin gel, roaccutane... and nothing has cleared it as well, and as quickly as Zinc. Very impressed. I've only been using it for about two weeks, but already, I look and feel better.

Pros:

IT REALLY DOES WORK! LESS zits and the ones that do come up are very small.

Cons:

you have to remember to take it everyday.

I had been going to dermatologist since i was 13yo. ive tried everything i even went as far as slushing if anyone knows what that is. everything was temp. i got so tired of the chemicals that make your face red and dry and avoiding crowds because of the way i looked. i got on the internet and researched vitamin deficencies and i found where zinc had some research about a antibiotic property it has so i gave it a shot. i now no longer have any chemicals in my house for my acne. i wash my face every morning and every night with regular soap. and i take zinc every day at breakfast. its my miracle drug.

Pros:

100 mg/day clears up my acne. 75mg a day maintains pretty well. I've been using it regularly for 20+ years starting at age 32. I've noticed no negative side effects, except nausea when taken on an empty stomach. Best taken right after dinner.

The only thing I've tried that works consistently, and quickly.

After a week of an initial breakout period this works wonders!
I wrote a previous review for this product on Amazon but I think the sellers hid it because I gave it one star and claimed it made me break out immeditely. It is true that this product made me break out but it was only the first inital week I took it and the only reason I am posting this is because I could find little information on initial breakouts with zinc. After a week my skin cleared up and I have not had a break out since. I have mild acne associated with hormones so in my opinion, depending on the person, this works for people who do not have cystic acne as well. I only take one a day (with a meal) because the doses are already over the daily reccomendations but try this out for at least a week or two and see what happens!

Breakouts
I am currently taking birth control and it has really helped my acne. I read about how zinc could also help acne so I gave it a try. I don't know if it was counteracting what my BC was doing, but I started getting huge cysts everyday. I keep taking it for a month but it only got worse. It was worth a try though, you never know. Everything will work different for each person.

So far, so good!

Pros:

Seems to prevents new acne/cysts/pustles.
MUCH easier than other regimens.
MUCH cheaper than other regimens.

Cons:

Possible (small) purge in the beginning.
Could potentially cause copper deficiency.

For starters, I take 50mg of Chelated Zinc Gluconate from Nature's Bounty. It's one small pill a day that I take after dinner with some coffee, and I've not experienced any of the negative side effects that other's have mentioned. I'm also 17, female, and have dealt with acne since I was about 9 - I believe because of an estrogen surplus. I've tried almost every topical on the market - perscription or otherwise, but my family couldn't afford to visit a proper dermetologist until recently, nevermind a perscription for accutane. (And to be honest, I'd take zits over any of the potential side effects any day.) Also, my mother refused to even consider birth control. It just isn't an option in my family. I've been taking Zinc in this dose for about 8 days now and...low and behold, no new acne. I don't really believe it. I'm sure I sound like a cheesy infomercial but guys, it's actually kind of legit, and it's probably one of the easiest things you can try before heading off to a dermetologist and letting them pump chemicals and silicons onto your face. I used to get these nasty cysts around my mouth and chin, and huge whiteheads right on my lip that looked like cold sores. I have bangs too, so my forehead would get really greasy by 12 o'clock, even in winter. Now my skin is neither dry nor oily, just...normal. I've NEVER had normal skin - you can imagine my excitement. THAT BEING SAID, my skin hasn't just magically become clear overnight, guys. My face is still riddled with old hyperpigmentation marks and scars, and there's still the occasional bump where blackheads are resting or where I suffered the worst breakouts and the skin is rebelling, but there's no new active pimples or pustles to be found anywhere on my face. I haven't had a single whitehead since the first 3 or so days I started taking zinc (and those were small and disappeared in a day or two,) and the redness in my face is going away now that I've begun using an astringent and moisturizor again. I don't want to let myself hope, since so many things have failed me before, but for the first time since I can remember, my skin is actually kind of smooth. It's freaking me out, lol. With the brand I'm using, you get 100 pills, or a three month-ish supply if you only take one per day. I took pictures and plan on updating in another 3 weeks, and then again each month until I'm out. Hopefully, I'll still have good news to report. ^-^
