Pros:

Very effective, internal solution for internal problem, no meds, very affordable, boost to immune system!

Cons:

Moderate nausea. Cut pills in half and take through the day with food, and this helps eliminate nausea.

I've been fortunate to have great skin all my life, until the past few months with horrible breakouts on my forehead and face. They persisted no matter what I did. Harsh cleansers were not effective and felt like it was damaging my skin more. Flax oil and fish oil tablets helped, but didn't eliminate it. The flares were painful and scarring. Since I was getting acne for the first time in my mid-30s it was confusing. I also knew that I didn't want to take meds, as I read a lot of reviews of side effects and ineffectiveness once meds were stopped. I tried Zinc, based on lots of reviews. When taking 30-60mg, the acne slowed down, but did not go away. I bumped it to 90mg and the acne went away in 1 week, gradually. Eventually all of my skin cleared in a few weeks and then I stopped taking the zinc and now only take it when I feel a breakout coming (my period, stress, etc). My skin is COMPLETELY CLEAR!!!!

Pros:

It's seriously amazing. My cystic acne has totally cleared up.

Cons:

Some minor stomach upset

I had to go off of differin because of money issues after losing my insurance, and since then, my acne has been completely horrible. I've been having awful cystic acne across my face, four or five pimples at a time! Well, I tried almost every over the counter, proactiv, everything and nothing helped. I then started trying holistic approaches. I gave up dairy (I am already a vegetarian) and I started taking supplements. I tried flax seed oil, but that made me actually break out more. I then stumbled upon zinc. I have been using it for about three weeks now, and I do not have any new cystic pimples, and all of my existing ones have dramatically cleared. I had six CYSTIC pimples at the time I started using zinc, and now I have none. I do have a whitehead, but I am totally fine with that. I believe my vegetarian diet has led to me being seriously zinc deficient, and thus leading to my acne. I hope I've found my "cure" at last! I take zinc chelate, by the way, two 50mg pills.

Pros:

It works, my face is finally completely clear now and I seen results fast, plus its cheap.

Cons:

I tired taking it once on a empty stomach to see if i could handle it and I was nauseous & dizzy for 2 hours. It was so painful, so take it with a meal. I read if you stop taking zinc for a long period of time then try to take it again it wont work

While taking zinc (50mg) supplements for a week, I have not had a new pimple or zit. When I first ate the pill my forehead had about 10 pimples and I had 8 cysts on my chin. It was horrible. Then I discovered zinc supplements on this review page. That night I ate 2 pills and took another pill and applied it on my face like a mask....the next morning the 10 pimples were gone, the cysts dried up on the 2nd-3rd day and I stopped waking up with a really oily face. During the day my face is not oily anymore either. I ate a REALLY high dosage of 5 pills a day for 3 days....on the 4th day I started taking it twice a day and it still gave me the same benefits. I made the zinc mask and slept with it on 3 times this week. I love zinc, I tired proactive before, it didnt work for me so i returned it and got my 100$ back, I've had a dermatologist before and I paid 35$ a month. I paid only 11$ for zinc. I love zinc its the only thing that worked for me :D I'll write another revi

Pros:

Everything! Small easy to swallow and can be applied topically too!

Cons:

May upset your sromach so eat a small meal first! Also make sure you getting Zinc Gluconate ONLY!

I begin taking zinc gluconate a week ago and I notice a brighter smoother complexion. I usually take a multivitamin that has 30mg then later in the day/ evening I take 1-2 more 30mg vitamins at different times totaling about 90-120 mg a day. Its reccommended to only take 60mg I believe so I will lower the does in a month besides not all of the zinc is absorbed anyway..but don't listen to me, do your own research. But here's MY GREAT DISCOVERY! I put 2 zinc peels in a plastic baggy and wacked them with a knife until they were fine little grainy peieces, then I applied a drop of my body shop tea tree toner, and applied over the blemished areas with my finger. I left it on over night and woke up to a beautifully brighter and MUCH SMOOTHER complexion! Also drink LOTS of water and great Luck!

Pros:

I use 60 mg of source naturals optizinc, its excellent, reduced acne by 90%, old scars are healing, smoother, even toned skin, getting rid of blackheads too. I use it in combination with whole food vitamin/mineral called Alive by natures way.

Cons:

none

Great product, you should totally give it a try, remember not to take more then 100 mg a day and take it with meal. Optizinc is best since its binded with copper which prevents dificiency. My skin looks really great since I started eating healthy, whole grains, fresh fruits, bright veggies, cutting out sugars and sweets. I used to have fine lines on my forehead which dissapeared too after I started using a supplement called Green Vibrance, it comes in powder form, full of whole foods and vitamins.

IT'S TRUE! It really truly works

Pros:

Cleared skin
Reliable

Cons:

Can be nauseating

I've struggled with different levels of acne since I was in 6th grade and I'm in my 3rd year of college now... it was never really bad until the past two years. It started to develop from typical mild acne which was kinda controlled with 10% bp or Proactiv. These past two years, I started struggling with deep cystic acne, it spread around my checks and chin area. It seems like it would come and go in cycles, but I've always been struggling with very heavy hyper-pigmentation and scarring (even if i didn't touch it!!!!). This last year I was put on doxycycline with really cleared up my skin but came back after a few months. In the summer I tried another antibiotic which didn't seem to be as effective. I've tried all, so many that I can't even remember them all...ziana, clyndamiacin, clynda-gel, tretinoin creams, different box kits, proactive, lots of creams that never seemed to be the 'one'. I've recently gotten more into holistic medicine and I somehow stumbled across zinc. What I read on these reviews changed everything... I LITERALLY made my account to review zinc. It is really working! I started taking zinc two days after Christmas and it's now half-way through january. The zinc really started to clear up my skin within a few days. About a week into the zinc I started to take a b-vitamin complex. I started breaking out severely, very painful cystic acne. There was nothing else new in my diet and no new products, so I stopped the b vitamins and continued the zinc. Within 3 days, it was all calm again. The zinc was really working. Since then I've had one tiny new active spot ( same day as my period- go figure) but I've been waking up with no new active spots and my scars are slowly fading. I've only been using the clyndagel with it since its winter and the tretinoin has been too harsh. Some spots on my skin have been extremely dry, but that could be from the harsh winter this year. The dry skin wouldn't stop me from taking the zinc. It's also started to clear up the last of the acne on my back which the birth control had mostly cleared up. (I've been taking this birth control for close to 6 months and never really helped my face too much). I do have to take the zinc on a full stomach- I usually take it with dinner otherwise I will get really nauseous. But I seemed to only be really sensitive to it in the beginning. I've been taking 50 mg of zinc gluconate (just regular vitamin store brand, nothing special!) and I will continue to take it!! FYI, i also suffer easily from headaches and have not noticed an effect on the headaches by taking zinc. The b-vitamins definitely broke me out, but with zinc you have to maintain a copper balance, so I started taking a regular multi-vitamin for her from Nature's Made with no ill effect. Best of luck, try the zinc!!!!!

Helped!

Pros:

Healthy
Cheap

Cons:

Can upset your stomach if not taken with food

This is a cheap way to help your acne from the inside out. I take one multi vitamin and an extra zinc everyday and it has really improved my skins condition. In my opinion this method can't really hurt you, it is almost a "win win". Sometimes you need to cleanse from the inside. I use lemon juice, green tea, distilled water and vitamins. I avoid dairy and red meat (not always! A girl's gotta eat!) This works for me, but even if it doesn't work for your acne specifically, it is still helping your body. Win.

Pros:

Cheap
Strengthens immune system
Works

Cons:

Temporary use to be safe

Great vitamin for your immune system it just isn't good in the long run for your body because it makes you copper deficient. Pretty much i broke out like crazy from TAP WATER...who would've thunk it...i tried to stay healthy and drink about a gallon of water a day and the chlorine in my water made me nauseous and slaughtered my immune system. I finally got to the bottom of it and figured out what was causing my acne because I hadn't broken out in years. Combined zinc and vitamin C every day and boom goes the dynamite. Drink 8 cups of FILTERED water Take 2 25mg zincs throughout the day Take 2 ester C (vitamin c supplement) Wash face with cleanser in the morning Wash face with cleanser at night BE PATIENT. Enjoy your new skin. seriously.

Pros:

My skin has improved so much! Give it a couple of weeks to fully take effect.

Cons:

It does make your stomach hurt a little bit but after two weeks i didn't notice it anymore. It's best to take it at night with dinner.

I would highly recommend trying 50 mg. of Zinc per day, its so easy but give it a couple of weeks to fully take effect on your skin. Zinc was the first supplement i tried that actually improved my skin. I have since slowly added others. First I added 500 mg of Niacin, then 400 I.U. of natural Vitamin E, and then I just recently added 350 mg Chromium. I noticed when I added the Niacin that it actually made my skin much less oily, never thought that was possible after everything else I've tried!! I buy the Natures Bounty brand of Zinc and (no flush) Niacin. They're very cheap like $6 Zinc, and $7 or $8 for the Niacin. I also use a mild foaming face wash-AM & BP gel at night, that's it. I would say would say I have 80% clearer skin.

Pros:

Only cost me 2 pounds! Its easily accessible. Works relatively quickly.

Cons:

You have to take a fair bit to see results.

After taking it for a few weeks I definitely see results. I take 45mg - 60mg of zinc gluconate each day. Although it is no cure, i still get acne, it is a lot less frequently and also seems to help reduce it and rid it much quicker. If you can get it inexpensively, why not give it a go? Just make sure you stick with it for at least a month before you decide if its working or not.
