Pros:

Cleared up skin great along with the Duac gel applied to acne spots nightly.

Cons:

After being on it over a year I recently developed severe stomach cramping along with vomiting a few hours after taking even when taking with a meal. Also caused headaches almost daily.

Cleared up skin beautifully but the sides effects (which is to be expected with long term use of anti-biotics) became more of a problem than it was worth. Drink LOTS of water while taking. Make sure to get blood work done. Because of the negative effects I'm switching to Solodyn. Would've been great without all the side effects!!

Pros:

I don't know of any pro's - yet.

Cons:

I am still breaking out with cysts all over.

I am not seeing the same effect's as others. I originally started taking Septra for what was diagnosed as MRSA by 3 Dr.'s later to find out it was just a regular Staph infection. I still keep breaking out with them in different locations. I have been taking the meds now for 2 months with no change. They are very painful and don't seem to be getting any less frequent!

Pros:

Cleared up most cysts and a lot of shoulder/back acne.

Cons:

Did not clear face up too much, just the very large acne. As soon as you stop, you break out again.

I have been off and on for several months. It's easy to forget one pill once in a while. It cleared the very large acne, but not the smaller acne which is on my face and chest. I stopped taking it for a bit and I broke out again, terribly but not with as many cysts. I got back on it again and it didn't do a dent into the smaller pimples, etc. I started taking green tea extract along with it, which I think helped somewhat. I am getting off it though to try something else. But really, it does work for some people just not for me. BUT less cysts which was nice.

Hi! How are you doing with everything? I know this was a long time ago, but I stopped spiro today and am starting Bactrim tomorrow to help with this breakout. Spiro caused me so much emotional pain and acne that I consider it one of the worst decisions of my life. Hope you are okay!

Pros:

Cleared my skin instantly

Cons:

I am allergic to the product and it took me two weeks to find out, which was at work.

This product worked great for me at first but as soon as I had an allergic reaction things went down hill. I had a rash covering my entire body and couldn't stop myself from shivering. I had hallucinations at night and suffered from a slight depression. So I would say it's worth it if your not allergic because it worked great at first!

Pros:

Cleared skin (including a dime sized cyst) completely in about 2 weeks.

Cons:

side effects:
head aches
muscle aches
loss of appetite
sleepiness

Ok. this is gonna be kinda long but about 2 weeks ago i got a small, tiny bump on my chin, but over a 3 day span that bump grew to be a cyst about the size of a dime..which is pretty big. So freaking out, i went to the dr to get the cortizone shot. they told me they couldnt do it because it was some kinda infection so they gave me a 10 dosage of bactrim to be taken twice a day. it went down slowly but surely every day but she sent me to the dr again to have it looked at by a specialist. he then gave me a full pescription of bactrim and clindamycin gel to use in the morning and epiduo at night. about 4 days into my new routine my skin was beginning to look really good, but i found myself getting more and more tired. On what was probably my 8th day on bactrim i noticed i got these long dreary headaches that would last all day..then my muscles would ache. then i was waking up with a consistent crick in my neck. This pain all got worse and worse every day. finally on my 11th day i woke up and i could barely move my body without being in pain. even my eyes hurt. i decided that bactrim was the reason and didnt take it that day. By the end of the day my body felt fine. So yeh. Now i take half a pill every other day. sometimes i still feel the pain but i really love bactrims results so i want to find a routine. ill post another review when i find something that works..but i will say that my skin is pretty clear and my other creams have been working good as well.

Pros:

With insurance, this antibiotic is cheap.

Cons:

It's been over a month and it hasn't changed my breakouts in any way. It's also a huge pill -- slightly bigger than those women's one-a-day multivitamins. And it's uncoated, so it doesn't go down very smooth.

Different anti-b's work for different people, and I don't think this one is working for me. The doc has me on it for two months, so there's still some time left -- but you're going to be fairly disappointed if you're looking for quick results with this one. I had better results on doxycycline back in college -- but the side effects were nasty (nausea + yeast infections!). At least with this one, I can't say I've had any nausea or yeast infections! Just MAKE SURE to actually drink a full glass of water after taking it.

Take with caution.
Dermatologist put me on Bactrim DS, to be taken twice a day with food. No side effects in the first few days and did a good job at clearing up my face. Was ecstatic to see that it started working so quickly! Currently I am on the 9th day and experiencing severe side effects. Fever, chills, extreme joint pain, muscle weakness and overall sluggishness. Also experiencing difficulty breathing, a tight chest, headache, and dizziness to the point of almost falling over, for no reason. The most severe of the side effects is the joint paint. Can hardly take a step on my right leg and cannot lift anything with my right arm. Bactrim does it's job however at the expense of your health. Please do your research before starting this drug
