Pros:

- clears acne

Cons:

- takes long to see results
- creates scars
- terribly sensitive skin

I've always had light-moderate acne and it started flaring up after my college graduation. I've got sick of it coming and going so I was prescribed the drug in hopes to get rid of it once and for all (at least for a long while). It got worse before it got better and left horrible scars. Before, I would get breakouts and it would go away in a few days without any fuss, but after starting this routine, there was hyperpigmentation of the scars which I've never gotten before and not only that, these scars left deep imprints into my skin. My acne disappeared for a few months after I finished the cycle, but now my skin is acting up again. These results are definitely not worth it and I wish I've never gotten started on this routine.

Pros:

-Did clear my skin very quickly

Cons:

-Can kill you if you are allergic
-Other negative side effects
-Diarrhea
-Only worked for a very short period of time and then broke me out worse

Bactrim was the last/latest antibiotic my dermatologist put me on. It worked VERY quickly and cleared up my skin in about a week, it was literally the clearest it had been probably since the time before when I was on antibiotics. However, this only lasted a short while and I started getting cystic acne, which I rarely ever get. After my third or maybe fourth cyst I decided that the Bactrim was causing this and I stopped taking it immediately (which, by the way, don't ever listen to the instructions that you are supposed to consult your doctor before stopping medication. That is just a ploy to make more money off you for a doctor's visit) and wouldn't you know it, NO MORE CYSTS. It all culminated with me getting one of the largest if not THE largest zit i've ever had on my forehead, from which I still have a scar (a couple scars really, because one cyst led to another). So I do not think Bactrim or any antibiotic is the way to go, they may help for a while but they never solve your problems and in fact they are very bad for your body. I have started taking probiotics in hopes of reversing the damage all the antibiotics probably did to my digestive system. Also you have to get used to having diarrhea every day of your life, but I already have that so I am used to it. I am 100% convinced that doctors do not wish to fix your problems but rather treat them so you are never cured and you have to keep going back so that doctors and pharmaceutical companies make lots of money off you. Everything, EVERYTHING is about money, which holds higher value than people. There is no hope for the human race and I pray for its destruction every night and day.

Pros:

My skin started clearing within the 11 days I took it, and my skin was less oily.

Cons:

I developed an allergic reaction on the 11th day and got hives on my upper arms and foot and had a rash covering most of my body. Thank God I did not have Steven-Johnson Syndrome.

If you are not allergic to Sulfa drugs and do not develop SJS, then it might work well for your acne. I personally do not think it's worth the risk. I wish I had researched SJS before taking this. The pictures were too disturbing to even look at. This is a very serious and potentially deadly condition and you need to be hospitalized in most situations.

Pros:

-Destroyed all my acne
-Helped with oily skin

Cons:

-Anxiety
-Depression
-Stomach pain
-Mild sun sensitivity

After about 2 weeks or so, I started to get some mood swings time to time and some frequent anxiety attacks. I went to my doctor and she told me that there is no way that it could have been the meds so then i searched up the side effects. It turned out to be that one of the "Rare" side effect was depression and that not many people experience it. I've talked to some people and they said they had the same thing.

Pros:

Clears acne some

Cons:

horrible for you
possible severe side effects

I've taken this last year for a month and then again last month, and It works but I really don't recommend it. It's not that it made me sick, but it made me tired alot and I had to have blood tests every time I took it to see if it wasn't killing me. Maybe it's just the blood taking I hated, but anyways it's not something to run off to ask your derm for.

Pros:

cheap w/ insurance

Cons:

side effects
didn't actually work

About 12 after taking my first Bactrim, I started to feel side effects. A lot of stuff listed in the booklet as "serious, contact your doctor": neck aches; lethargy; inexplicable bad mood; muscle pains. I contacted my doctor and she told me not to worry, so I stuck with the meds. After a few days of exhaustion and aching (which I quietly refuse to believe was just coincidental), the side effects died down, and I felt more or less fine. So the real problem is that Bactrim didn't do diddly for my acne. I have chronic cystic pimples on my chin, not numerous but huge and painful, and on Bactrim I never had less than one of these active at a time. What I'm really looking for out of an acne med is peace of mind--I want to cut the terrified mirror-checks out of my life. Bactrim didn't do that.

Pros:

Clear skin!
Cheap w/insurance

Cons:

Depression
Extreme crying fits when trying to get off of it
Extreme fatigue

I was sad to get off this medication because it cleared up my skin so well. However, no acne med is worth losing quality of life over. If you don't have a reaction to this, then by all means take it, because it really clears up skin. However, for me, I lost out on a lot by not recognizing the symptoms quicker. I would not recommend due to the severe (possible) side effects.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Larthargic
Side effects
Hearing loss

I've been taking Bactrim for 2 days. This is not long enough to see any results for my moderate, but persistent acne. But it's definitely giving me side effects. After 2 days i've got a massive headache like a throbbing pain. I never get them maybe once in a couple months, but even so it would last about 5 minutes. Also i just got ringing in the ears. I checked with my ent (ear nose and throat doctor) she stated Bactrim or these Sulfa drugs are ototoxic. Which means they can cause hearing loss and ringing in the ears(tinnitus). I'm sure it would've cleared my acne up! but the side effects are not worth it.
