Works at first then acne comes right back!
Over the last 8 years, I have tried pretty much everything like everyone else one this thread. Name it. I have tried it. Proactive. R&F. Mario B, Thomas Roth, Kate Sommerville, chemical peels, drugstore stuff, the 'water only' treatment (BS by the way), changing my diet, drinking more water. It makes my brain tired thinking about everything I have done and tried to get clear. This was my last resort because I really never wanted to do prescription medication to clear my skin.I had only heard and read terrible things. the side effects. The fact it doesn't work. All that. So I was scared but after so long with nothing else working, my confidence was in the dumps. I went to a dermatologist and they prescribed me this - 2 pills a day. For the first week, I noticed a definite clearing but then wham! The side effects kicked in. I broke out in hives all over my body, had a fever so bad that I couldn't get out of bed for an entire week. I was really hesitant to stop the bactrim because I saw results for the first time in a long time. I called my derm, they told me not to worry, that the fever was likely just an illness. So I kept doing it for 3 more weeks. My fever went away as did the hives but I had a persistent headache and dizziness for that entire time. It was really unnerving. Oh and did I mention that around week 3, my clearing stopped and did a complete reversal? HUGE breakout, unlike any of the breakouts I had had before. That was really the kicker that made me decide to stop and see if the bactrim was causing my headaches. I stopped and literally within 24 hours, I was completely back to normal. But with worse acne than before! hahah. All in all a pretty crappy 4 week experience. Recently I found something that seems to be working though' found it through some online forum, someone mentioned Ninja Skincare and how it worked really well for them at 4o+ years old. Sounded a lot like me and my skin' who would have thought your skin gets bad for the first time in your 40s?! So I gave them a call and I love this brand. Love it. The customer service is so top notch - I aspire for my own company to have customer service like theirs. And the best part is that my skin is clear! It has been 2 months now and I don't even have to wear any makeup anymore and my scars are fading. So that is my two cents. Trust your gut and don't get prescription medications. The side effects are soo bad. Much worse than what you read the potential effects are. There are topical medications that work, you just have to do your research I guess. And find something that works for you! Good luck friends!

Be Careful!
So wanted this product to work that I didn't realize how much it was not working until it was too late. Gave my daughter horrible infected acne lesions that were still there a month later. If you decide to try this, I suggest taking a close-up picture of your face each week to evaluate how it is going. If your acne is getting worse, call your dermatologist.

The devil!!!
Bactrim is probably the worse medication I have used. It does that job, but the side effects make you want to pull your hair out. I have a fever, chills, joint pain, stomach and lower back pain. I was prescribed to take Bactrim 2 pills a day for ten days. I only made it to five and now I'm did. I will try something else.

Allergic reaction
When I first went to the dermatologist for my acne I was prescribed this product. I only took a days worth before I had an allergic reaction to it. My skin broke out in hives and my throat and joints swelled up. It never got the opportunity to do anything to my acne so I can't comment on that aspect but I would caution others to be careful when taking this product. (For anyone curious I had to get a steroid injection and then an oral prescription to combat the allergic reaction.)

Pros:

Cleared up face after a short time

Cons:

Crazy side effects. Headaches, extreme itching all over body, fever, neck and joint pain, sore throat, and more. Those were just the effects I experienced.

Even though I would love to keep taking this because it helps with acne so much, the side effects are not worth it!

Pros:

It did help clear up my acne, and realitivly quickly

Cons:

I became deathly allergic to it and was hospitalized, not worth the risk for clear skin

I have suffered from acne off and on from my teens. I would be on something and it'd clear up but then soon break out again. Minocyclene worked well but I became immune to it. My dermatologist recommendd spiriolactane, which made my skin worse then ever, the he gave me bactrim. I read several reviews on the bad side effects but thought "I've never had a reaction to any kind of drug, so I'll be fine" well I was wrong..4 weeks after taking the drug (1 pill twice a day) I am currently sitting in a hospital bed with a rash from my hair to my toes. I'm on my second night and have no idea when I will be released.. It has now infected my liver.I have never been in so much pain in my life. Please take this post seriously and do NOT think it "can't happen to you." bc I am proof that it can. It did help clear my acne, and as depressing and embarrassing as acne is, your health is not worth it. I promise you will regret it

Pros:

None!

Cons:

Not a long term solution.
Not healthy long term.

It took months of consistent use before I finally noticed any changes. It did eventually get rid of my acne. However, I had to consistently use it for it to work. But the issue is that it's not healthy to be using this long term because it's an antibiotic. Not only this but a few months after you are done using it, it flare right back up. The longest I went without having to use it was 6 months. Eventually I noticed cysts coming back. Overall I would say that it's a waste of money and there are better solutions out there.

I absolutely agree. After getting acne at age 30 and trying everything except accutane, septra bactrim is the only thing that worked for me... However, my dermatologist put me on it for a year and a half! He said it was totally safe and fine and he's had people on it for 5 years he said. Thing is, once I decided to stop, my acne all came back and is worse now. PLUS now when I use bactrim to fight a serious infection it doesn't even work. After 1.5 yrs I have built up a resistance to it and it will no longer work on me. I do not recommend using antibiotics for anything unless it is absolutely necessary to fight infection and not something so superficial as acne.

Pros:

Skin Did Actually Start Clearing

Cons:

Allergic Reaction
Rash
Stomach Pains
3 Day Hospital Stay As A Result
Fever

I spent 3 days in hospital as a result of these meds. I was put on 600mg by my dermatologist and did't get the reaction until 7 days in to the treatment. My skin had actually started to look a tad clearer but it obviously isn't worth the risks as I was tested for Meningitus, SJS and other diseases.
