Pros:

This stuff works!

Cons:

I've had several derms refuse to prescribe it saying it was a severe drug, and that they NEVER prescribe it. Some said they've never heard of it being used for acne. HELLO, get with the program docs!

After having frustrating and painful acne for years, and trying many topicals and orals, thank God I found two doctors with the common sense to recognize this is what I needed to clear my skin up. I received many compliments after my skin cleared up, "Are you doing something different, your skin looks great?" I do recognize that there are possible side effects, but I don't think I've experienced any.

Pros:

very effective, took it once a day 400mg bactrim roche . really works wonders, totally cleared my face from acne. battling acne for over 20 years. even tried accutane. i'm 37 y.o. started getting acne at age 15.

Cons:

no side effects whatsoever.. 400mg is tolerable

for me, it is like a discovery. i've been with accutance, all topical anti acne, doxy, minoxy etc... this is the only drug that works for me and cleared my face for one whole month. don't know what will happen next if my body will get used to it.

Pros:

It clear up my acne within a couple of weeks, but that could have been a result of the burns that developed on my skin as a result of my allergic reaction???

Cons:

It can be very dangerous. I had a severe allergic reaction that developed into a life threatening condition known as Stevens Johnson Syndrome. I survived, but there is up to a %40 mortality rate.

It can work, but be careful. If you start to feel sick at all, check with your doctor because it could be a reaction to the Bactrim. I didn't develop symptoms of the allergic reaction until two weeks after I started the Bactrim so I didn't immediately associate my illness with the medication. Additionally, the first symptoms were a high fever (104 degrees), a sore throat, hot/cold flashes, and body aches so I thought I was getting the flu. Because I didn't realize it was an allergic reaction, I didn't get medical treatment until I broke out in hives/burns all over my body a week later.

I'm sorry...I bought the product for $10! It was the Differn I spent $30 on!

Pros:

I saw results in a matter of 3 weeks.

Cons:

Large pill taken twice a day, caused headaches.

I think this product is great. My acne got worse before it got better. I experienced headaches in the beginning, but just took Advil and they went away. I used this along with Differn at night and Cleocin pledgets. I also switched my makeup to all Neutrogena as the doctor said it is the best makeup to use for acne-prone skin. My face hasn't had any severe breakouts since I first went to the dermatologist! I'm going for a chemical peel in about 3 weeks for the scarring. I would definitely recommend this product as I have tried EVERY over the counter medication and this was the first thing the doctor prescribed and it worked!

Pros:

really does clear up the skin fast and effectively! don't need to take it twice a day and it still works when you skip a day.

Cons:

everytime i take just one pill i get cutaneous candiasis (skin fungi) in the same place on my skin. it never fails. taking a broad spectrum antibiotic will def allow opportunistic infections to occur since your killing bad and good bacteria!

clears acne

Pros:

clears skin quickly. very inexpensive.

Cons:

what ever you do dont drink while you take it. At least in my case, if i went out and drank i would get the worst headaches after just a few drinks.

The stuff works. After about 2 weeks i saw great results. Besides the headaches i never did get any bad side effects. If you want fast results then i def recommend it.

Pros:

No side effects.

Cons:

Having to take it 2 times a day. It also seems like it's too strong of an antibiotic to be prescribed for long term use.

My acne never really got better. I was taking Bactrim while using Retin-A and Duac for about 4 months. My derm had me stay on it for a while because I guess Bactrim does the trick for most people, but it never worked for me.

Pros:

Clears everythinnnng up nicely
Cheap
Loss of appetite! ha

Cons:

Need to take 2 pills a day
Can have serious side effects due to allergic reactions
Takes about a month to see significant results

I've been on trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, Duac benzoyl peroxide, and Differin adapalene gel for a little over a month and I'm finally starting to see improvement. At first the acne flared up quite a bit which always has to happen anyway to heal unforseen lesions. I had mild acne on my back and chest, which cleared up right away and I haven't seen anything since I started the medication. My face is now the last to clear up, but it is clearing up soo nicely I'm actually excited.

Pros:

Cleared me up after 2 weeks of treatment. After that, 1 pill a week for a year kept me clear.

Cons:

Acne returned after stopping treatment. Lots of potential side effects. I sunburned my shoulders while on Bactrim, 3 years later they have bad psoriasis(?).

For a quick fix for something important (wedding?), it might be worth trying. I won't use it again because of all the side effects. Even though I didn't notice many, staying on Bactrim permanently will do bad things to your body.
