Cons:

I took this pill for about 2 weeks, without any noticeable results. Then I suddenly broke out in a horrible rash all over my body! My doctor just told me to take Benadryl, which didn't work, and a couple of days later my lips, hands and feetswelledup

I recovered once I received antibiotics, but it was terrifying to react like that! Turns out I am allergic to sulfa drugs, but pretty much the only way to find out if you're allergic is to take the drug, risking a reaction. I always thought I could just watch the effects, and be careful, but these symptoms sprang up over night, even though I had taken Bactrim for weeks!

Pros:

inexpensive

Cons:

migraine, nausea, dizzy spells, disimprovement of acne

ive been on many antibiotics, topicals and birth control treatments that have not worked, but this is the first treatment that significantly worsened my condition.before treatment i had moderate acne, not inflamed, localised to centre of my forehead, chin, cheeks, chest+back.in the first3 weeks i noticed improvement, along with frequent headaches.from then, considerable disimprovement, along with daily migraines, nausea, dizzy spells and i have fainted several times.i have been taking trimethoprim for 4 months and now have cystic acne with several cysts on my face+back.i broke out heavily all over my forehead and the sides of my face, and developed milia on my temple, and an extensive coverage of blackheads.i have a vast coverage of acne on my face and my skin is thinner and more sensitive.i have noticed my oil production has increased.i continure to take this faithfully so my derm will have no choice but to prescribe me roaccutane, as scary as that is.this treatment was hellish for me.

Pros:

Clears up skin in weeks and stays clear!

Cons:

Huge powdery pill, have to get used to swallowing
Sensitivity to sun
Loss of appetite?

Reading about the allergic reactions can be scary, I admit, but for those of you who are willing to brave it for for a clear complexion, the results are rewarding. I've had cystic acne, mostly on my chin, for about two years now and I've tried ortho-tri bcp as well as doxy, but nothing worked. My dermatologist recommended Bactrim to me about three months ago, and after breaking out two weeks after starting to take it, I haven't broken out since. Not even a tiny whitehead. Now I'm not afraid to go out or be social! I've even skipped days and gone one a day (instead of the recommended two) and been clear... Although I still have some scars and underlying bumpiness/redness from previous breakouts that isn't going away, fresh ones aren't popping up.

Pros:

Cleared me up. Take a look at the picture gallery or search for Kone and you'll see my photo gallery

Cons:

Not safe for everyone

I took two doses of this as recommended by my doctor. Was on it for probably two months... It worked and spared me from my cyst breakout --(very severe!) but may be wearing off right now. I won't go back on this because I know what this and other antibiotics do to the body. If you are taking antibiotics, take probiotics! Kone

Pros:

Clears painful, cystic acne.

Cons:

Possible blood, kidney, and liver problems from long-term use.

After trying ProActiv, Murad, and Nature's Cure, I saw a derm. for prescribed oral meds. No luck with Mino, Doxy, or Differin Gel. Next step? Bactrim. Wow! I was on the medication for 8 months with no side effects. I never even suffered one pimple while on the medication. My skin kept improving, improving, improving. When I lost my insurance, however, I was forced to stop the med. After about 6 months of no medication, I experienced a flare-up. Frustrated to see my skin so horrible again, I visited a low-cost clinic and was able to get the Bactrim for $25. Great medication.

Pros:

Cleared me in three days. This worked well for about 5 months but I've started getting cysts again.

Cons:

I've never used an antibiotic (and I've tried them all) that I became resistant to so quickly.
I'm not allergic to this drug so I've had no other side effects as of yet but reading the possible side effects are scarey. I'm getting off this drug.

This is definitely not for long term use. My internist told me it is very hard on the liver and kidneys plus the possible side effects of Stevens-Johnson syndrome do not make up for the short term clearing of my skin.

Pros:

Unfortunately, I have cyste acne also and I am allergic to amoxicyln and tetricycline and Doxycylin worked for me for about a year and wore off after that. My Derm put me on Bactrim and I've been on it for two years now and is the best thing for me.

Cons:

When I first took bactrim I did get a little nausiated, so I started taking it when I eat and now I have no problems and it works great.

Great option for those people allergic to other antibiotics. May need to take with food. Very good at clearing up cyst acne.

Cons:

Be CAREFUL!!!!!!!!! I had an allergic reaction after taking this drug. I began with a fever, headaches, and chills. I thought it was a cold. Then one night by face started getting splotchy and tingling/prickly all over. Spread to my entire body.

Had to be hospitalized and shot up with steroids to decrease the swelling and rash. I hear this has worked for clearing up a lot of people, but be careful and very attentive your body's condition when you first start it.

Pros:

My breakouts stopped within the first few days, skin cleared within the first month. Marks have since healed and faded and I have been completely clear for almost eight months now.

Cons:

So far I have found no cons, but I'm not allergic. I think this pill can be very dangerous if you happen to be allergic.

This is an amazing acne treatment. I tried virtually everything you can buy without a prescription, including ProActiv (don't waste your money on that stuff, by the way.) Giving up on shelf products, I turned to my doctor, who prescribed me on Erythromycin in topical and pill form for two months, which made little difference. I had acne on my face, back, and chest, as well as moderate (and painful) cystic acne in these same places. Bactrim completely stopped all forms of breakouts. My skin hasn't looked and felt this good in probably 4-5 years. I don't have to cover my face with a mask of makeup anymore. This stuff has had a great impact on me and my life. It has cured my skin as well as my low self-esteem. If you are tired of everything else disappointing you, but too wary of jumping to Accutane (I was desperate enough to investigate it once, it's scary stuff!), TRY THIS. I feel like I'm repeating myself, but it's been absolutely everything I hoped it would be for me
