Pros:

Clears face and keeps it that way.

Cons:

Makes my skin super-sensitive, especially to the sun. Also makes areas of my skin look slightly red and splotchy.

Works well and keeps you acne free, though there are side affects that people taking septra should know about.

Pros:

It cleared up my chest & back within a week

Cons:

Side effects can be scary...I went off of this after researching more about it's effects. And it makes you very sun sensitive, which I didn't like b'cause I like to keep a little tan - the healthy glow seems to make my complexion brighter.

I believe this drug will clear you up if you are willing to risk the serious side effects. I saw improvement within a week, but didn't stay on it long enough to really see. Prior to this, I was on Minocycline which helped, but it didn't help THAT much. And next up is Cephalexin - the side effects are much less severe and I'm hoping that it will work much better than the Mino. Wish me luck. I'll keep you posted.

Pros:

Easy to take
No nausea

Cons:

Small rash on wrists (similar to tiny mozzie bites)

Got sunburnt very easily

Within a couple of days of starting a course of Bactrim DS, the skin on my back started clearing up and I do not get large papules anymore. However, it seems to be targeting the back more than the face which is a bit of a shame really.

Pros:

CHEAP
WORKS LIKE MAGIC
EASY TO USE

Cons:

NOTHING, EXCEPT FOR REMEMBERING TO TAKE IT 2 TIMES A DAY.

I have been on Septra for a couple months now. Since I have been taking septra 2 times a day, I have not had any breakouts-what so ever! This stuff is THE BEST!

Pros:

-Clears you up faster than Accutane
-Low price

Cons:

-Effectiveness of medication may wear off if used for a long period of time. (?)

This medicine has been absolutely incredible for clearing up my acne. My derm has prescribed me so many antibiotics in the past (Mino, Doxy, etc.) and they haven't worked one bit...UNTIL I suggested the use of Bactrim. At first he seemed reluctant to put me on Bactrim because of the severe allergic reactions a person has to sulfer based medicines. I told him I was willing to risk an allergic reaction because I was so fed up with the business of having continuous, painful cystic acne that just seemed to develop on my chin area. So far it's been only 2 weeks on my treatment of Bactrim and I'm almost completely clear. There's a healthy glow to my complextion that I've never had before, and my cystic acne on the chin area has stopped. Thankfully I have not yet suffered any allergic reactions to this medication like most people claim to. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that bactrim will continue to work for me. Yay for bactrim!

I have been on bactrim for almost 3 weeks now and my cystic breakouts have stopped. I started noticing the breakouts subsiding within a week. I was taking minocycline for about four weeks prior to bactrim and my acne just kept getting worse. Bactrim has done wonders so far. I had my third baby 4 months ago and I noticed I started having breakouts 8 weeks after giving birth. I am sure some of the causes of my acne could be due to my hormones trying to get back in balance from after having a baby, sleepless nights from getting up with baby, and just the overwhelmness of now being a mom to three versus two(My other two kids are 4 and 2 years of age). I have also been on Ortho-tricyclen bcp and spironolactone for 2 months now. I heard the combination of bcp and spironolactone has helped with acne and after I finish the bactrim, I hope that my acne doesn't come back as badly since I will still be on ortho-tri and spironolactone.
